Daren is joined by Dave Hakstol to talk about being the first head coach of the Seattle Kraken (3:58). Dave explains how the opportunity came about, the philosophies he shares with Kraken GM Ron Francis and why he’s so grateful for another chance to coach in the NHL. He talks about how analytics is incorporated into his coaching style and shares the best advice he’s ever got from one of his mentors (it has to do with dogs). He looks back at his experience coaching in the NCAA and with the Philadelphia Flyers and the lessons that he will take with him to Seattle. Dave believes there’s an opportunity to be competitive in the first year and is looking forward to building a winning culture in Seattle. Keith Jones (31:21) also joins Daren to talk about the Stanley Cup Final, Nikita Kucherov, Carey Price, Tampa Bay’s ability to play multiple styles and joining Turner Broadcasting (he received a special phone call to find out he got the gig). He shares a story about how one of his coaches motivated him to get in shape early in his career and explains how Darren Pang was a key mentor for him during his early days in broadcasting.
