Hello everyone! Do you miss when the Royals were good? Me too. Especially after this season. This is the first episode of Baseball Will Break Your Heart. A surrealist, overly romantic, and unhinged history podcast where we explore the myths, legends, and tragedies of our national pastime. Of course being a die hard Royals fan I decided to cover the 2014 World Series run and what it meant to the city for our first episode.
You will notice some creative liberties but Baseball is the kind of game that rides the line between religion and sport. I originally set out to just tell the story as it is and use my academic training to provide a complete historical picture of the most serious quality and then I got bored because that story has been told already. So I decided to dive headlong into romanticism and magical realism and absurd humor to retell the greatest heartbreak our city every experienced.
I am working on getting the full 3 part 90 minute feature up on Patreon, but I will be releasing it in 6 parts on a weekly basis via anchor. This is the first of many. We have several more written on other topics and teams that are in the early phases of production. Please be kind with your feedback.
