This coming offseason should be a big one for the club. It’s unlikely that a team would take Hayes’ contract for the final 3 years at 7.1 per without some sort of retention or sweetener.
The buyout would free up some cap space, and rid Torts of Hayes, but we’re on the hook for 6 years with varying cap hits – 2.25(x1), 4.7(x2), 1.6(x3) – and the cap is set to rise.
