16 Years ago the world lost Darrent Williams

The Broncos lost to the 49ers 23-26 but that wouldn’t be the most difficult loss of the night.

Darrent Williams was a young star destined to be a future Pro Bowler. Learning alongside Champ Bailey all was looking good for the Oklahoma State 2nd rounder.

After the loss to San Francisco and being knocked out of the playoffs some of the Broncos went to celebrate not only New Year’s but Kenyon Martin’s birthday.

At the club things got rowdy as Brandon Marshall’s cousin spayed Champagne on some other patrons. Little Willie (Williams’ murderer) and his gang—who dealt cocaine in the eastern area of Denver—had found their attention to be focused on then-rookie Brandon Marshall, who had made quite the scene outside of the night club, after a bouncer (at first) refused to allow Marshall entrance into the club.

After some hours go by on that New Year’s Eve, Marshall found himself trying to alleviate the trouble that the gang members had tried to create.

At the end, the problems that Little Willie and his gang had were with Brandon Marshall, not Darrent Williams. An error saved Marshall’s life—and took that of Darrent Williams.

Darrent Williams will be remembered as an up and coming Cornerback who changed his life. He was hard working and dedicated to football and his team. He unfortunately left behind family but also left behind his legacy. Rest in Paradise. Can’t believe it’s been 16 years.
