Bruce Arians “extremely unhappy” with Buccaneers firings – ProFootballTalk

  1. Gotta be honest, I’m pretty unhappy with BA right now too- all season actually. Is he staying in the shadows again next season or what?

  2. BA was worried where these coaches would sit if we went 10-7 and Brady fell off a cliff.

Instead we went 8-9 (some of those wins thanks in part to Brady magic). I know these were ‘his’ guys, but Leftwich was a huge problem.

    oh no…. anyways.

  4. Maybe he was snoozing up in his booth during games but you can’t bring back guys who led an offense that continuoisly ran up the middle for one yard, and on second down have a defensive lineman bust through the middle and force an errant 2 yard pass where the receiver runs the wrong route. Then on 3rd down check it down.

It’s a failure at more than the OC level.

  5. Thankful for the 2nd superbowl Bruce, but we need to rid ourselves of his staff and influence completely.

Bruce is a relationship/loyalty guy to a fault. There is now way he could have seen the product on the field and thought it was ok.

I remember reading a comment from a cardinals fan who mentioned that as his one downfall. He’s far too loyal. Keith Armstrong was bad in ARI, he was bad here, and Bruce still held on to him.

The superbowl bucs were literally one of the worst kick return coverage units in the NFL, and he still maintained a job here.

I’m glad to see Todd make the changes he made, but the only reason a guy like Armstrong is on this staff is loyalty and its freaking sickening

  6. He can be “extremely unhappy” all he wants but he made the choice of hiring a guy who had nine games as an OC and two years in total of being an NFL coach. He knew before he retired how shitty Leftwich was so he should have no reason to be upset about his firing.

  7. Not sure what games he was watching this year, but for a team that chronically looked unprepared, unmotivated, undisciplined, mistake-prone, inopportune, and generally underachieving – changes had to be made.

I’ve watched my share of bad Buc football for over 5 decades, and this was one of the more disappointing seasons I’ve seen given the level of talent and the results. Far worse Bucs teams didn’t have this talent and played better.

  8. Maybe he shouldn’t have coddled and shielded Byron for as long as he did. That could have potentially yielded better results for everyone.

  9. Bruce was the kind of guy that was unhappy when the Offense wasn’t putting up 30+ by the half last year.

How could he possibly be blind to the fact that Leftwich’s playcalling was extremely ass and yielded one of the worst rushing offenses in history and an offense that couldn’t move the ball until Brady took the reins at the end of the game to try to bail them out.

  10. What the fuck is actually going on over there? I’ve never seen such a talented team seemingly so determined to get in their own way

  11. When we fired Byron and the others, I wondered how Bruce would feel about it. I specifically wondered if it would cause some tension between him and Bowles. I know earlier in the season Bowles in a press conference said he talks to Bruce but end of the day it is his team. On the other hand, had they not fired the offensive staff, it was almost certain that after next season, the ENTIRE staff would be fired. Felt like Bowles had no choice tbh. I understand why Bruce is mad because chances that Byron has to become a HC are now almost zero.

  12. Your assistants are failures, Bruce. They don’t have what you had. Ignoring how outdated your system is.

  13. I honestly couldn’t care less. Brady magic was the only reason they even made the playoffs. I respect Bruce loyalty to his people and that’s a good quality but the organization absolutely made the right move.

  14. Fuck this guy, he has no room to speak after he retires in late March and ruins the Bucs chances of doing a real coaching search and are stuck with Bowles. Coaching staff shows how inept they are without him, results in half getting fired and he wants to throw a fit over it??

He better hope Bowles knocks the OC hire out of the park, otherwise he is going to be looking for a job elsewhere this time next year

  15. Sorry Bruce maybe you should’ve been there to do something about it, always be grateful for the chip you helped get, but now it’s time to get your Darth Vader ass up on out of here

  16. The team went from decent coaching to horrible this year. The talent on the team was the reason for our record the last two years, not the coaching. Dip in talent and dip in coaching = this year

  17. I actually think Todd Bowles is/was the biggest problem, not Leftwich. Leftwich was just fine under Arians. Leftwich gets some blame too but I think Bowles as the head coach is the real problem.

Please note, I defended the Bowles hire at the time but I was wrong

  18. Got his ass fired in Pittsburgh for the same damn reason we just fired Leftwhich. Unwilling/able to adapt an old offensive scheme.

Thanks for getting Winston out, helping to land Brady, and the SB. Now go get yourself a drink and mumble your illogical grievances to someone who cares please.

  19. He can be mad..this is no longer his staff regardless. He stepped away. If they are not performing up to par let’s bring somebody in that will!

  20. Imagine if we had offered to trade Leftwich to the Bills for Brian Daboll back when Byrons pricetag was sky high.

  21. Well you’re in luck BA because none of us really give a shit what you think at this point
