Flames lose to the Blackhawks 5-1

Burn the game tape because there’s nothing to salvage from it. Tonight is the biggest game of the season, it’s a four pointer on the second half of a back to back, after travel, against the division leaders.

  1. We’re in for a rough time against Seattle

Excuse me while I prepare my bleach smoothie

  2. This is a game we should, on paper, have won. The fact that we didn’t is telling. I’ll be honest and say I don’t hold much hope for the rest of the season, and potentially for the next few years. While I think it’s a shame that Kylington is gone and Tanev gets hurt, it strikes me that a team that was touted as having ‘incredible defence’ seems to have none. The predicted meshing of our top line is, still, something that is coming despite them playing together for 5 months. Is more time really the answer?

Maybe this comment will age like milk. I’d be happy if it did. I have no idea what that is but I don’t think shuffling lines is the answer. I’m concerned that we are in for a long period of being a shitty ‘underperforming’ team that is built to make and then exit the first round of the playoffs.

  3. Sad to have stuck through the entire game instead of doing something productive, but it could’ve been worse – was thinking of getting tickets to go to the game last minute but ultimately stayed home. My condolences to all who did attend last night and paid for that shitshow of a performance

  4. I think we need to remember the NHL is a well balanced league. The worst team can beat the best team because they are still a professional hockey team.

Yeah, the flames played like shit last night. Something seemed off. Let’s see how they are tonight against Seattle 🤞🏼

  5. This team isn’t making the playoffs… we all need to be honest with ourselves..

The teams ahead are widening the gap and some STILL have games in hand..

Which would mean we need a minor miracle the rest of the way..: and I don’t see that happening..

The best part of all this is we’re stuck with long term contracts for 30+ year olds and we’ll be in mediocre no mans land for the next 3+ years!

    YAH BABY!!

Why does this team have to be so depressing

  6. I don’t know what this team does with all these 30 year old contracts, tbh I’m furious our 2 drafted players that scored 40+ left. Like unbelievable we hand picked them as they grew in our organization only for them to leave like that. This team has always been mediocre can’t tank properly or can’t make a deep playoff run.

  7. 2022 was fun. We will have that to look back on for the next 10 years while this team continues its trend of mediocrity. Ready for a 15th overall draft pick

  8. I don’t turn off many Flames broadcasts. Especially when I have the chance to sit down and watch the game. Scorch forgive me, I turned that game off.

  9. We are only in the wildcard hunt because we have nine loser points and on any given night, I am not sure what team is going to show up…the one that beat Tampa or the one that was blown out by Chicago.

In the last five games we scored one goal in three of them but then we scored six against the Lightning (we scored four against Columbus).

Another thing, during the last five games we have only scored three goals with Markstrom in net but ten with Vladar, and Vladar only played two of those games. Is this a team confidence issue or just dumb luck?

Setting aside statistics for a second, we have all seen Markstrom let in soft goals on a routine basis, but you aren’t going to win a lot of games when you only score one goal. He has made some good saves each game and our defense hang him out to dry more than a few times each game.

I am suspicious that the Los Angeles Kings might not be as good as their record suggests, but when I look at the rest of the teams in the playoffs or wildcard positions, I am beginning to worry that this team is not going to be able to grab a spot.

The Flames are on the clock, we have a veteran team with long contracts that are not going to age well. If we miss the playoffs the next two years, we’re going to have aging players with big contracts that will be difficult to move.

The moves last summer were about winning now rather than a rebuild, and things looked promising the first few games of the season, but it increasingly looks like we don’t have the right mix.

  10. I am not a Sutter fan. I’ll say that upfront. His shelf life continues to get shorter and shorter as the league evolves. I would be happy to see a different coach but I don’t know who is better than Sutter right now. And that’s a sad state of affairs.

  11. Anyone trying to make excuses for this team at this point in the season are completely out to lunch. The dark truth (and you all know it) is that we will miss the playoffs this year and stay mediocre through the rest of Huberdeau’s contract. That’s just the truth. Our roster construction, along with how much money we have dedicated to 30+ players will close our potential contention window sooner, rather than later. Welcome back to the 2009-2013 Flames era. All we can do now is sit tight and wait for the inevitable rebuild that is coming.

  12. Unlike Carolina and Colorado (or any succesful team in the league to be frank) we have a management group that is stuck in the stone ages when it comes to scouting philosophy and talent evaluation. They also invest the least amount of money in data engineers/analysts compared to the rest of the league. You see it time and time again, players that leave us go on to have better careers elsewhere. We give away assets and draft picks for short term replacement players don’t amount to much. Look at any successful team and look at how much draft capital they still have and how many picks they have. These results aren’t an accident. This is what you get when you run a hockey organization like it’s still 1998.

  13. What the fuck happened last night? I didn’t watch the game but how did the Flames get blown out so badly by a team that is looking to acquire Bedard?

  14. We have a GM who signed a bunch of poor contracts to extend his job. He signed contracts based on what they have done and not what they will do and this will sink us for 6+ years before we get out from under them. We should have used them leaving to rebuild for the future but instead decided to go for it and sell out long term.

We will stay in the range of barely making the playoffs with no real chance to win a cup… and in doing so we don’t get any young talented players of Star/Super star levels for years unless they get lucky at the draft.

  15. Only 5 more games of blasty then hopefully we’re done wearing black forever. At this point nothing triggers more “shit flames hockey” feelings than that stupid cartoon horse.
