Ian Rapoport says he is “pretty confident” that Ryans would choose the Texans over the Broncos if offered both jobs.

  1. It actually makes sense for him to take the Texans job if he doesn’t think he can get the right offensive coordinator to fix Russ.

Why take a job where you’ll get fired in 2 seasons when you can get 4 seasons to turn around the Texans and you have a bunch of extra 1st rounders to work with.

  2. He has history there and they are in a great position for a rebuild, it makes sense. It’s not like we were going to give him 20+ million a year like Sean Payton so what difference does the Waltons money make.

  3. If Ryans goes to Houston and Payton doesn’t come here, it really feels like we’re gonna start one of those Detroit/Cleveland slides where we’re the constant punchline of the NFL.

I just don’t see Shaw turning things around here, he’s been at the college level since 2005 and is coming off of bad losing seasons.

Maybe Caldwell could do it, but he’s been out of coaching for a few years and he’s pushing 70.

Maybe they go crawling back to Rosburg? Interim coaches don’t have a great track record when becoming the official head coach. He would be risky but he also might be our best option.

It really seems like they have botched this entire process tho. I still have no clue why they didn’t even talk to Reich. Everything is just rumors at this point but it’s hard to be optimistic right now.

  4. I’m not worried yet. This isn’t exactly new information. It was always going to come down to the Broncos or Texans and he has Houston ties. Both teams are just waiting to talk to him next week. People are acting like the Broncos offered him the job yesterday and he denied it.

  5. They also phage the #2 pick, whereas Broncos draft capital is bleak and he’d be stuck with Russ.

  6. I am now waiting for a post with the exact opposite take. I’m assuming it’ll take less than 8 hours

  7. Texas is a safe pick for him because the performance expectations won’t be as high as Broncos and fans won’t be screaming to fire him after 1 or 2 losses. We are a tough crowd here.

  8. i don’t see the appeal of houston other than arrogance. he wont get his own gm. they probably draft one of these qb’s which aren’t really andrew luck type franchise guys so they might suck. next year you’re going 3-14 with a rookie qb. the owner is a dipshit. honestly, he might just be better off waiting for the next cycle and getting a better job.

  9. Lmao I would choose the Texans too if I were demeco.. forget his history there, and focus on the fact that Russ is ass and were handcuffed to him.. the Texans have a #1 pick… this seems like some Mr obvious shit and our fan base really out here doing mental gymnastics acting like the other owners aren’t also billionaires that can cut a blank check to Sean Payton

Even if demeco were to choose the broncos and hire a coordinator that could fix Russ back to mid tier, that OC will then immediately get a head coaching job and we’ll be back here again trying to fix the offense with Mr unlimited… let’s ride fellas

  10. Ryans could have a head start on a Zac Taylor/Bengals type of rebuild. The Texans have a fuck ton of picks which includes a franchise altering 2nd overall pick and a great roster boosting 12th pick from Cleveland plus 10 picks in 2024. They already have a franchise LT and a serviceable RT. Maybe a few moves in FA and draft some guards or a center and that line can be solid. Pierce looks like an RB1. Trade Cooks for even more capital and gain some cap space back. A lot of holes to fill but they have plenty of picks to fill them.

I definitely see the appeal of the Texans from that standpoint.

  11. Who needs a HC when you have the power couple Russ and Ciara on board? Let’s ride fragrance and dangeeruss sandwich coming to Walmart shelves in 2023. Far from a laughing stock.

  12. I’m gonna go to Dan Quinn’s house with a boombox blasting “Don’t Know What You Got Til It’s Gone” by Cinderella.

  13. I don’t think ownership botched this coaching search. They really took their time and yeah Quinn got some money thrown at him and stayed at the Cowboys? He was a defensive minded head coach that has already shown he’s not good head coaching a situation like ours. Sean Payton is still in the running but I think as shown by the Panthers his price tag is just too high right now. Ryans is still in the running but inevitably had deep ties to the Texans regardless. We took our time with this search which is the best way to go about it and sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I like Rosburgh and a lot of people are really down on David Shaw even know they no nothing of what this guy could actually do with a head coaching job.

  14. From a non football standpoint why it makes sense for him to go back to Texas:
No State income Tax. Wife is from Houston. Kids born in Houston. Played for the Texans. Runs a charity based in Texas and doesn’t get taxed due to state laws. Loved by the fan base.

From a football standpoint why it makes sense for him to go Texans over Broncos:
Gets two first round picks and a ton of other draft capital and cap, doesn’t have to be forced onto Russ, gets Bryce Young or CJ Stroud, likely given a lot more wiggle room with no Paton, Penner, Walton, Elway, etc.

I’d be shocked if he wasn’t going to Houston at this point unless Walton’s offer 20+ million which is a big risk for first time head coach.

  15. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, lol. I can’t believe guys get paid to state the obvious.

  16. How bad is it when a first time head coaching candidate would rather choose the Houston Texans’ job over this job.

  17. Okay but, even if we miss out on the “big ticket” hires…don’t we have an extremely sought after HC candidate in house in Evero? If he’s the guy we have to “settle” for, based on everyone’s praises and evaluations of him, doesn’t that make us feel a little better? I feel like we are overlooking him hard and he’s in house.
