1. Total speculation, but I wonder if this was a special situation. Knowing that he had a number of health issues as a child, it is conceivable that the payout of the signing bonus helps alleviate the family’s financial strain from all the healthcare costs.

   Pretty cool for Derick Hall, hopefully he’s got someone in his ear giving him financial advice for that signing bonus. I can’t imagine how poorly I would’ve spent ~$4 million right out of college.

5. Totally okay with this and you gotta think hawks were okay with it too due to his solid character.

   Not gonna do this for some knucklehead and his ATVs – but Derrick is by all accounts as good as they come.
