[Nightengale] MLB is investigating cyber-hate messages directed towards the 13-year-old nephew of Arizona #Dbacks OF Tommy Pham. Pham had a verbal altercation with #Padres fans over the weekend in San Diego, with #Mets owner Steve Cohen and D-backs manager Torey Lovullo coming to his defense.

  5. Why in the world is MLB investigating this? Surely this is either a matter for the police to investigate, or not a matter to be investigated at all.

    Unless it’s MLB players sending the cyber-hate messages, which would be unusual.

  23. A lot of Padres fans have a weird irrational hatred towards Pham. As far as I know, he really didn’t cause any problems when he was with the team beyond not playing very well. But when I was at the game against the D-backs on Friday, a large contingent of folks in the stands were yelling at Pham, mostly mocking him for getting stabbed in a strip club parking lot when he was with the team. How do you hate someone so much that you’d mock a traumatic event simply because they didn’t play well for a team you like. Shit’s unhinged.

    Also that’s a great cue to get off baseball social media/Reddit for about a week. More toxic elements of the fan base are being wreckers. Pads flair will automatically make me “one of them” until this blows over. A person is smart/people are dumb, or something like that.

  30. I don’t want to dismiss the hate messages players and their family members get, but they get ***a lot*** of hate messages, especially after poor games. How does the league expect to look into them all? Something must be egregious about this particular instance.

  31. WOW dude. SMDH I am not a fan of the guy but padres fans having it out for him is the dumbest shit, like why? He played fine for us. And on top of that, the Joc slap, while not justified in the slightest, was something he did because he was defending the Padres from something Joc said! For fucks sake, total idiots
