The Athletic joins in on the “fun”

  1. the bigger stage thing is so funny because it’s what, lakers, miami or boston? new york has been dogshit forever. clippers, new jersey and philly did nothing with their stars while cleveland, milwaukee and denver are recent champions.

i don’t understand this concept at all unless people want the whole league to be a farm team for the lakers.

  2. Its like all these casual basketball fans are just learning of Ant, and the first thing they think of is “oh he plays for Minnesota?”

But I think people forget Golden State was the blandest franchise anywhere before Stephen Curry joined them. Now they’re about the hottest NBA ticket to buy every season.

  3. I love how everyone just wants to see guys carry on established legacies elsewhere. Go to LA and carry on showtime, Go to Miami and carry on Heat Culture, so on and so forth. Why can’t we see guys establish their own new legacies. People should be rooting for Ant to establish Minnesota as a winning franchise. People should be rooting for Tyrese to bring Indiana back as a winning franchise. Right now the NBA has a bunch of great young players in small markets and the national media can’t enjoy it.

  4. What a surprise. A desperate company hops on a popular narrative for clicks rather than having an ounce of integrity. The Athletic is an embarrassment.

  5. A very-similar-market just won the Finals in dominant fashion and there’s no talk of anyone wanting to get away from it. Win and it’s fine. “Is it time for Steph Curry to leave San Francisco and go to a big market like Chicago?”

  6. Fortunately Ant doesn’t seem like the kind of player to ask out in a year or two. Seems like someone who would rather build something himself. Winning in MN would make him much more legendary than pulling a Durant and just heading over to the best team.
The public perception of Durant never really recovered and it doesn’t help that he hasn’t had much team success since.

  7. Cause Tim Duncan and those boys all needed a different place than San Antonio to succeed.

    *eye roll*

  8. He’s already famous. Does going to a bigger market make him more famous?? Do they say this about Denver or Milwaukee?

  9. And people wonder why small market fans have become so bitter in recent years. The national media and the fanbases of larger-market teams at this point are just brazenly saying that small market teams are nothing more farm teams for the big boys at this point.

  10. Thought the Athletic was above Bleacher report style clickbait trash like this with zero basis in truth.
