In this [athletic article](https://theathletic.com/4805966/2023/08/28/nhl-players-prospects-under-23-connor-bedard/?source=user_shared_article) made a week ago, they ranked all the prospects in tier lists. Bedard is alone in tier 1. Fantilli is in tier 2 with J. Hughes and Stutzle. Then there is Carlsson at tier 4 with Caufield, McTavish etc.

This doesn’t make sense to me. How is Fantilli already two tiers above Carlsson? What changed between now and 2 month ago at the draft? At the draft they should be around the same tier since Carlsson was drafted before Fantilli, but somehow Fantilli’s value already skyrocketed.

  1. The best answer is that lists are subjective and that the writer knows as much about how two 18 year olds will develop as you and I do.

  2. Fantilli is widely recognized as the better prospect. Time will tell if we outsmarted everyone or whether we just made a mistake. Check back in 4 years.
