I wonder how this will effect the future of the DH market, especially with the Dolans running the franchise still. I was hoping to land Carpenter as a cheap backup with experience. Dolans can’t even afford league minimum.

Carpenter was absolutely awful last year, he’s washed. League minimum is too much.
I don’t understand why we would have any interest in him. He can’t really play defense, and outside of a hot month with NY in ’22 he hasn’t been good in like 5 years. Rather give some younger players a shot, they likely won’t be much worse than him.

What a douchey post this is. Matt Carpenter is washed, by the way. He hit .176 with a .600 ops last year. League minimum is WAY more than he’s worth.
Yeah let’s not go back to the days of trying to wring one more year out of a washed up 38 year old and having it end up even worse than the lowest expectations
Who says Carpenter was even a target ?
Dolans would be happy to add someone at league minimum if they actually would add to the team. The issue is that nobody available at that price is actually an upgrade over what we have. Josh Naylor and Kyle Manzardo are probably going to basically platoon 1B/DH so that’s what you should be comparing to, which Carpenter is 1000% a downgrade from at this point in his career. Idk why the Guards would be looking to add at DH anyway, the bigger holes/where it actually would help to spend money are in outfield and pitching.
There are valid complaints to be made about the Guards, but not signing Matt Carpenter is definitely not among them.
We don’t need a carpenter on this team. We need guys who can hit.
Imagine being upset we didn’t sign old ass Matt Carpenter when we have Josh Naylor and Kyle Manzardo
