[Preseason Reminders] Where to get replays and highlights, and how to record your own

Welcome back, everyone!

Opening Day is next week, we're going to be posting some helpful reminders about content and rules so it's a smooth transition into the season. We'll be explaining some of the thinking behind our rules, so feel free to ask us questions and let us know if there's anything you think we can do to improve. Go Twins!

Everybody likes highlights! No, I'm not talking about those things you had in your hair in middle school, I'm talking about video replays of the Twins doing something cool. Whether it's a home run, a defensive gem, or a player being interviewed, people love seeing it.

We do have rules about quality replays though, so where can you find highlights? A bunch of places!

Good

  • The game threads. Each thread is automatically updated, and includes a highlight section that links to MLB.com video. If someone scores, makes a big defensive play, or really any noteworthy moment, you can find it here. Just refresh the page, and within about two minutes it will show up. NOTE: MLB will continually update these so the first replay up within two minutes will be very short and bare-bones. A couple minutes after that is posted, it will be updated with a longer version that shows replays, dugout high-fives, etc. This longer version is preferred if you're posting.

  • baseball.theater is an excellent site. It has the same links you'll find in the game threads, but unlike the bot, it continues scraping MLB's site even after the game ends. Here you can find stuff like post-game interviews, full game recaps, statcast replays, and stuff that extends beyond just one AB (Videos covering a 3 HR day, a pitcher's highlights, etc.)

  • Your own recordings. See something that isn't likely to get a proper replay like Morneau telling a funny story, dugout shenanigans, or a defensive gem that isn't showing up on the official replay sites? Here's a guide on how to record and upload your own videos. It's super easy.

Bad

  • Recording your TV with your phone. The video quality will be bad, the audio will be awful, and civilization as we know it will collapse. We will remove your post.

  • Links to twitter videos. The video quality is bad, and they're usually too short. They also have a tendency to be deleted (even when posted by the team or Bally) or copyright claimed.

  • Using Instagram videos as your source. The videos are cropped into a square so you don't see as much, then they're compressed an obscene amount. If it's being posted on Insta, you can 100% find it somewhere else in higher quality.

  • Non-HD videos. Quality matters.
