[Preseason Reminders] Memes: What’s allowed and what isn’t

Finally in our reminder posts, it's time to clear up some confusion:

Are memes allowed on the subreddit? Yes!

Are all memes allowed on the subreddit? No.

Why does this rule exist?

The goal of the subreddit is to be a fun place for people to discuss the Twins and get news about the team. Memes are part of the fun, but the content arc of every subreddit shows that content that's "easy" to understand and make but shallow for the sake of discussion will rise to the top. Left alone long enough, a subreddit will start revolving around shallow posts made for karma and replace everything else.

So, what is allowed then?

What isn't allowed? (You can still post this stuff in the Game Threads)

  • If you can make it in under two minutes with a meme generator or MS Paint, we're going to remove it. This is our most common reason for removing stuff.

  • "Image Macros" or posts that are just a picture with some text on top of it. This includes stuff like Drake Pointing, "Change My Mind," the plain "Yelling at Cat," "Wojak," and other common memes. (There's a ton of overlap here with the last point.)

  • Whatever the most common fresh meme of the last week/month is. If it's popping up on every other subreddit, we'll probably remove it.

/r/MinnesotaTwinsMemes also exists if you want to go meme-crazy!
