Updated look at Tigers stats

So we are about 10% into the season now, and some trends start to appear.

Riley Greene is our best player, hitting about as well as Mark Canha who is second, but with better defensive value. There are about sixty players in the league ranked better than Riley at this point, so on average, most teams have two position players who are more valuable than our best player.

Greene, Canha and Carpenter are our three regulars with 130+ wRC, which is what you would expect from previous seasons. They collectively have 2/3 of our home runs. (We are among the worst teams in the league for home runs, tho.)

So our outfield is well ahead of our infield; our starting infield is collectively and mostly individually (except Gio Urshela) below replacement level at this point. Javy Baez has more home runs than Torkelson, Keith and Urshela combined.

Jake Rogers has stopped the bleeding on strikeout rate, but his bad first week still leaves him with 43% K rate on the season; Parker Meadows is 40%. Jake, Parker and Javy are all looking at BABIP numbers below .170 so the hope is they could see better results going forward.

We have quite a few hitters not controlling the strike zone to produce a league-average 8% walk rate just yet, . We'll have to watch this space going forward. We know Javy has no walks, but Urshela and Vierling only have one apiece, for example.

On the pitching side of things, fangraphs thinks Jack Flaherty is almost as valuable as Tarik Skubal, i.e. Skubal has been lucky at run prevention, Flaherty not so much. And it also thinks Tyler Holton and Alex Lange are not very effective due to home runs and walks respectively. It thinks Joey Wentz is one of our most effective relievers based on FIP, so there's that. In general we have too many pitchers walking 3 and even 4 guys / 9 innings, and not enough guys striking out one batter / inning.
