2012 Vibes

This is an email convo with my dad from the 2012 season.

I see a lot off parallels between this team and that one. ‘11 and ‘23 both showed the first sign of a pulse in a long time, and neither amounted to anything. ‘12 and ‘24 both have terrible offenses, although back then it was one lone superstar rather than a couple of okay hitters that made up the exception. At this point in 2012, we had an identical record of 14–18. By July 28, we were 58-42. Ended up nosediving and only winning 79 games, but I’d take that at this point. Especially if it led to three years as the second best team in baseball, as 2013-15 was. Nothing guarantees history will repeat itself, but maybe a vague mirror image?

Two more things: Cutch slashes .194/.302/.333 in March/April of 2015 in a similar number of plate appearances. Not saying he’s gonna be anywhere near peak Cutch, but slow starts are not new for him. Might have something left.

Also, Elly de la Cruz is raking this year, and most of last year he was worse than out Cruz has been in 2024. Let him cook, he might figure some things out.

The last 20 games have been so abysmal, it has to get better from here, right? RIGHT??
