Game 6 Preview: Brad Marchand hopeful, Boston Bruins confident; Can they beat the Panthers?
Brad isn’t mad and payback will be a dish best served on the scoreboard you’re locked on Bruins your daily podcast on the Boston Bruins part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day what is up Bruins fans and welcome back to the locked on Boston Bruins podcast I’m your host and McLaren and this is a Daily Show where we discuss all things spoked V today is Friday May 17th and I want to thank you so much for making lock on Bruins part of your daily routine free and available on your favorite podcast app and on YouTube We’re part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day and today’s episode is brought to you by Game Time download the game time app create an account and use code locked on NHL for $20 off your first purchase hey you might want to use that for game six tonight between our Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers a game in which the Bruins will once again try to saave off elimination before we get into that a quick reminder you can find the podcast on social media locked NHL Bruins you can find me my dad jokes hockey thoughts ATC McLaren I’m a lifelong Bruins fan I’ve been covering this team for various outlets for 20 years or so I was a full-time hockey News writer for the score and have been hosting this podcast since 2019 seen a lot of Bruins elimination games in my day and that’s exactly what they face once again here tonight with a Do or Die game against the Florida Panthers in which the Bruins are hopeful that Brad Marshon the captain will be able to play he practiced in full on Thursday head coach Jim Montgomery said he looked good but he still has some boxes to check it’s clearly but not confirmed a head injury obviously we know those are tricky to assess could be good one day have some setbacks he remains day to day uh the Bruins did have an extra day between games uh five and six which was huge and they’ll no more here today whether or not Brad Marshon will suit up for this game six he said as well he’s hopeful to be back on the ice he looked pretty good in practice by all accounts just going through the steps there’s a concussion protocall in place and they’ll see how he feels today but he said hopefully he’s able to play he added it’s very tough to watch this time of year you want to be part of it it was great to be back out there to be around the energy and the motion and be out there with the guys now Marshon was present for game five and he did speak before each period he was out there giving the team a boost chest bumps whatnot but they still need his production and his leadership and his two-way game out there to have a chance to beat the Florida Panthers in this series um should he be able to shoot up Jim Montgomery said the Boost that he would give the Bruins is really immeasurable you can’t put a number on it percentagewise he said you can’t put a number on it emotionally Brad Maron is the leader he’s the captain he’s the heart and soul of this club how can you put a number on that um Charlie McAvoy who has been wearing an A in Marshon absence he’s an alternate captain on this team stepped up huge in game five as we’ve been talking about um you know he said they’ve spoken at length about what Brad means to the team the energy that he brings it’s going to be wild tonight McAvoy predicts the fans are passionate they’re awesome they love Brad Marshon so if he can go it’ll be pretty loud and exciting reminiscent of zido charara playing in game five 2019 against the St Louis Blues after suffering a broken jaw now unfortunately the Bruins lost that game and they’re three and seven on home ice in the playoffs under Jim Montgomery that’s a trend that needs to change here uh tonight the Bruins have had issues closing teams out uh stepping up on home ice and really riding the emotion of the fans and the Bruins need to come out score early score hopefully often to get the crowd in it keep the crowd in it and take the Panthers off their game just look back to I hate to bring this up but 2019 game seven the ruins had a couple glorious chances to score in the first period if they had Buried one or both of those then it could have been a whole different game and the blues wouldn’t have felt that confidence that they could actually get this done you don’t want the Panthers to feel like they can steal this game on home ICE you want to take it back obviously to a game seven uh Marshon added it’s very tough to watch this time of year to not be involved extremely stressful watching we could all resonate with that um it helped to be in the room and to be able to talk it through with them to stay involved and he reiterated how much he loves this group he said quote I love every guy on the team moments like this just show how close we get and how much we mean to one another there’s a lot of different things that happen on and off the ice throughout the year that aren’t known that just show how close of a group we have you don’t get this everywhere he added quote I think that’s part of what makes us all very grateful to be part of this team and organization how we Bond on and off the ice grateful each day with this group and with this team and being part of it and it’s the guys that make it special now end quote I know every fan base says this or feels this that it’s kind of their team they have the best group the best bonds The A Team of Destiny Vibes I really feel this way about these Bruins though you look at what they’ve accomplished in what was supposed to be a transition year you have Mason loride Justin brazzo Parker Witherspoon uh playing big roles dandon Heinen who didn’t have a contract before this season all playing big roles in yeah pushing the Bruins to a game six in the second round um you see how tight the group is what they went through last year uh it would be just so great to see them pull this off Marshon added this is why we started playing hockey we want to live our dreams to try to win a cup we’re in Stanley Cup playoffs we’re fighting for our lives so guys are excited about that there’s no poor me attitude in this room it’s a great opportunity whether it goes our way or not we’re going to leave everything we have on the ice and enjoy the moment you never know when you’re going to be in the second round of the playoffs ever again it may happen it may not you’ve got to enjoy the moment and be grateful for it and I think our group is now what a great perspective and attitude to have here heading into game six Brad maron’s hopeful to play I’m very hopeful the Bruins can push this series to a game seven part of the story hanging over this series though is the Sam Bennett hit on Marsha on that took him out of games four and five and the Sam Bennett goal in game four that helped Florida take a 3-1 series lead we’re going to touch more on maron’s thoughts about that incident here as the podcast continues maybe you’re listening to this podcast sitting at home or in transit wondering whether or the locked on universe free and available on YouTube and the Amazon Fire TV channels app part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day now Brad Marshon was very opened and honest with his thoughts about the hit that took him out of the past two games uh we all remember early in game three Marshon took a hard right hand to the side of the head from Sam Bennett as they collided in front of the benches uh Bennett also happened to be holding his stick in that hand uh he did continue to play after the hit Marshon did but he later left the game and did not return uh and this is what he had to say benett plays hard he’s an extremely physical player great player for their group and he got away with a shot Marshon said but he’s taking the high road he’s not complaining poop happens he said in a not so familyfriendly way especially part of playoff hawky I’ve been on the other side of a lot of plays he thinks Bennett got away with one but that’s part of the game and definitely part of playoff hockey on social media I mentioned the PK suban uh quote where he said it’s been a long time coming for Brad Marshon in this instance he was the hydrant and not the dog I still don’t love that way of thinking because it suggests now that well now it’s open season on Bennett now he has it coming I don’t want to see anybody get sucker punched like that I don’t want to see anybody suffer concussions yes it’s part of the game but the whole Karma comeuppence Brad Marshon admitted that he’s been on the other side of a lot of plays but he’s also had to pay the piper he’s one of if not the most suspended player in NHL history he’s paid a lot of fines uh my issue was it being brushed off as just a hockey play and Bennett not being held accountable for that whereas Marshon has Marshon yes he’s been on the other side of a lot of those plays uh but he’s also been extremely penalized scrutinized and given that reputation as a result whereas Bennett is just like oh yeah he got away with one great hockey play on his side Marshon added it sucks to be on the other side of it but that happens I’m not going to sit here and complain about it part of the game but yeah I think he got away with one it is what it is uh he added it would have been a different story if that camera angle that we all saw prior to game four came out a couple days before but again it is what it is doesn’t matter at the end of the day there’s just Mis caused and Miss situations and that’s part of it uh especially in the playoffs Marshon very open and honest here saying people don’t want to say it but part of the playoffs is trying to hurt every player on the other team and the more guys you take out the more Advantage your team has people don’t say it that’s just the fact of the game every time you step out on the ice someone is trying to hurt someone and that’s how it go goes in the playoffs that is the reality it’s a sad reality it shows the NHL kind of allows this stuff they don’t hold guys accountable for this stuff um but Stanley Cup is the biggest prize in sports the best trophy in sports and guys will do anything it takes to win Marshon added anytime you get an advantage on a team it’s going to help your team win and that’s part of the benefit of having a physical group you see te Go the Distance with the big decor and physical teams that’s rarely why you rarely see the teams that are small and skilled go far because they get hurt and that’s part of it Bennett’s a competitor he’s not complaining uh guys on that team that compete hard that’s the way you want your guys to play in the playoffs and that’s the way that teams that win usually play that’s the way the Bruins are trying to play too they’re trying to play hard um again he reiterated he’s not going to complain about it it is what it is it’s playoff hockey that’s what makes winning the cup so hard to do but what also makes it so gratifying if you’re able to do it um he added the Bruins went through it the year they won with Nathan Horton going down other guys getting hurt it’s how you respond as a team and bounce back from this stuff um it’s not soccer it’s not basketball hashtag pleas like my sport it’s the hardest trophy to win if you don’t like it don’t play in the playoffs uh so Marshon again reiterating he’s not complaining about it it’s part of the game but Bennett did get away from it just because it might be part of the game and just because that’s what happens in the playoffs that’s what it takes to win doesn’t mean that when guys cross the line they should not be held accountable for that and I think that’s the issue here you can say Marshon had it coming which is kind of gross uh you could say uh yeah a long time coming for this guy but the reality is it was an injurious Punch To The Head Sucker Punch To The Head that was not penalized and should have been at least a one game suspension so while Marsha’s taking the high road he’s not complaining about the incident itself because that’s part of playoff hockey he’s also saying he did get away with one maron’s been called to uh account several times in his career for incidents like this uh it’s only fair that Bennett should have at least had a hearing a fine something for the NHL just to look at it and say nothing to see here totally fine that for me remains uh remains bogus to put it to put it lately at any rate the Bruins took game five and the ultimate Revenge will be taking game six and game seven from the Florida Panthers and advancing to the Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers who beat the Hurricanes last night that’s what needs to be the focus uh that’s what the focus was in game five as much as there was talk about Pat maroon wanting to fight Jim Montgomery saying they’re looking at Bennett they just went out there and played a great Road game and they need to replicate that here on home ice tonight and we’ll preview this game a bit more closely here as the podcast continues level up your ride with ebaymotors.com they have everything you need to turn your ride into an MVP and level it up to Peak Performance superchargers roof racks exhaust kits LED customers all right game six tonight Jim Montgomery saying the Bruins confidence is at an all-time high said there’s no doubt about it we’re getting more confident you saw it in game four where they had the two- nothing lead terrible call went against them defensive breakdown uh but it translated more in game five and he expects it to grow in game six um the two days of rest in between so huge nobody’s playing at 100% on either team it’s what happens in the playoffs and with the extra day gives everybody a bit more juice and should be a good start to tonight’s game the Bruins were able to get a full practice on Thursday um it helps them to work on things repetition creates quicker thinking um he sees the Bruins getting better you’ve seen it throughout the series uh you’ve got to get better because that’s the way you win a series uh Charlie makoy said he can’t wait for tonight uh they know what’s in front of them tonight they’re in a great position to keep this going with a game on home mice despite the fact that they have gone uh three and seven in home games in the playoffs under Jim Montgomery but that’s not H neither here or there heading into tonight because all they have to do is focus on the game at hand now when it comes to the matchups again the key thing is to get pucks on net Sergey bosski has a Sub 900 save percentage in the playoffs he’s 89 six somehow he’s got a seven and3 record though Jeremy Swan 6 and5 with a 933 safe percentage there’s no denying the Panthers are an offensively loaded team they rank third in the playoffs with a goals four per game of 3.7 the Bruins rank 11th at 2.5 but the Bruins have been much better defensively they’re third ranked allowing only 2.42 they got to continue to keep the Panthers outside of those High danger areas and limit their opportunities because they know they can trust Swan when the puck does get on net and as a team that struggles to get shots on net they need to be able to uh suppress Florida’s attack take advantage of any miscues that happen and go the other way they’ve had a ton of breakaway chances odd man rushes that they haven’t been able to cash on um I’m expecting a big game from Jake debrusk who leads the team with 10 points five goals uh hopefully our boy Brad Marsha can return he’s got seven assists in the playoffs and that would be just a huge boost to the Bruins it appears as though we discussed this yesterday with uh Scott McGloin of Wei um looks like Jacob loo is going to come out the lineup they’ll go with more experience with James Van reik Pat maroon but de Brusque Five Points sorry five goals five assists for 10 points Marshon with three assists three goals I should say with seven assists for 10 points David poock needs to come through with the big game as well he’s had a pretty relatively quiet playoffs only four goals four assists for eight points obviously as Boston’s Premier offensive player he Garners a ton of attention would love to see him pop off with a huge game uh as we saw him do last year in game one against the Florida Panthers um we know he can score on this team and we know that our boy our boy their boy Sergey bosski is fairly leaky he does have 36 shots in 12 games 11.1 shooting percentage which is a bit down from his uh regular season mark he just needs to continue to get the puck on net and good things can happen just slightly down it was 12.3 in the regular season so that’s the key for the Bruins get the puck on net limit High danger chances limit your defensive miscues which have come back to bite them and stay out of the Penalty Box if I see the Bruins take a Too Many Men penalty in this game I don’t even know how I’ll react that would be just beyond ridiculous but limit the post whistle scrums uh limit the interference penalties keep the puck below the glass do everything to stay out of the Penalty Box and try to take advantage of any power play opportunities that they in turn have uh both teams killing penalties at a great rate Panthers are ranked third Bruins ranked fourth in the postseason Power Play Pretty even as well the Bruins are ninth the Panthers are seventh the Bruins have struggled on the power play in this series though hopefully Marshon can help with that and uh come out firing from uh from the circle and beat Sergey bosi who is incredibly incredibly beatable all right that’s it for today’s episode my friends thank you so much for joining me here today as we talk about cap Brad the task at hand the Bruins with an opportunity to push this series to a game seven to do something hilarious and that is reverse the table on the Florida Panthers remember last year the Panthers were the defending president’s trophy Champions squeaked into the playoffs and took out the Bruins this year the Bruins are defending presidentti trophy Champions the underdogs in this series down 3-1 let’s have the tables turn here shall we and uh if the Bruins do win I’ll be sure to jump in with a bonus pod over the weekend to tea up game seven if they fail to uh push the series the game seven I’ll be back Monday with the beginnings of our uh postseason postmortem all right friends hope you’re all doing well have a good week having a good week please have a good weekend take care of yourselves take care of each other we’ll talk to you again here on the next episode of Locked on Boston Bruins part of the locked on podcast Network your team every single day
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is hopeful to play Game 6 tonight against the Florida Panthers after missing the previous two contests with an upper-body injury suffered at the hands of Sam Bennett, specifically his right fist.
Marchand was taking the high road, saying it’s part of playoff hockey, but added Bennett got away with one after not being penalized for the incident.
Marchand’s addition to the lineup would obviously be huge for a confident Bruins squad. They haven’t been money on home ice in the playoffs under Jim Montgomery, though, and they need to come out firing.
Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren previews Game 6 and brings you all the latest on the black and gold.

Please use a bruins background
Thanks for the drop Ian. Any future plans to have other collabs on (i.e. Pete Blackburn, Low Quality Bruins Fan, Andrew) or even with rivals (i.e. Leaf's JD Bunkis)?
Let's go B's!!!!!!
The Bruins have to win tonight in game 6 – they can do it !! Florida does not want to go to a game 7 in Florida – that would be a one game showdown and the Panthers don't want that. So, I feel that the pressure is on Florida. That is what i am thinking !! Let's go Bruins !! Chester
Your comments on injuries and hits is spot on.
I’m sorry but we don’t deserve it. Holy s#it!! Talk about sloppy play. Do we even have an identity, with this plug and play crap. Makes no matter, either one of us were gonna get destroyed but the fuc&ing Rangers
