Posting a random Steeler every day until kickoff or I forget – Day 78: Willie McClung

Willie McClung (1955-1957)

Willie McClung was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers out of Florida A&M after the 1955 NFL Draft. Over his three seasons in Pittsburgh, he played on both the offensive and defensive line and started in 28 of the 36 games he was active for. He was regarded by many as one of the strongest men on the team. After leaving the Steelers, he spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions in the NFL and then one final season in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger Cats before retiring from his playing career after the 1962 season.

He later started McClung Transportation, which provided more than 60 school buses for Pittsburgh Public Schools in the 1980s and early 1990s. He also served on Pittsburgh’s Planning Commission. He passed away on July 28, 2002, following complications from a surgery.
