Bucs OTA Practice Analysis

[Music] welcome pter report readers viewers and listeners to a brand new edition of the pter report podcast energized by Celsius the official energy drink of pter report I’m your host Scott Reynolds along with me today is Adam slavon call him sly because he’s a Sly dude we were both out at bucks OTA practice today the first one of the Year along with bayy Adams who was on the podcast yesterday we’ve got lots of news to talk about today including some players who were there and some players who weren’t there today so make sure you stay tuned for all of our analysis of the Bucks otaa practice as this part of the offseason kicks off and I am like I said joined by Adam slavon Adam it was not too hot out there today it was a nice day given the fact that um it’s summer not officially but I think it maybe this is it summer already it feels like summer it’s always summer it wasn’t it wasn’t an inferno it was not a scorcher out there nice breeze uh little nice stair step into training camp if you will and um but at the same time uh wasn’t so easy for Todd BS to move around the Bucks Head Coach revealed today that he he had offseason knee surgery a total knee replacement so he was pulling a Bruce arens and riding around on a golf cart today yes he was yeah and uh like you mentioned it wasn’t just the Bucks players ramping up it it was us out there as a precursor to the dog days of summer when it’s 95 degrees every day during training camp but it was great to be out there and great to see uh Todd bus and all the players really for like the first time getting the whole band back together yeah was uh one of the players that was not there was Tristan wors you’ve probably heard if you’ve seen pter report.com or the report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler WPS is missing the OTAs and is he a hold out well kind of sort of um Tristan has been a Mainstay at the facility this offseason matter of fact every time we’ve been there we have seen Tristan uh lifting weights I mean he lives in the weight room and Luke gki are practically taking up residence there this off season yeah but I think this is a precautionary thing Adam this is not like the the Devon white situation last year where white wanted a contract extension and wasn’t going to get it and decided to hold out during the off season and uh you know and and even ask for a trade out of town of course that didn’t happen that didn’t materialize he had to play on that fifth year option but the main difference between wors and this is a picture from last year during the OTAs and uh and what we saw from Devin white is is well the team is negotiating with Tristan wors on a new deal yeah and with that I don’t really see it being too big of a concern that Tristan wors isn’t out there during OTAs because besides like the rookie offensive lineman such as Grant Barton and Elijah Klein we’re just getting on the field as a big first step for them you know what Tristan wors provides Bucks fans have seen it since he’s since he was drafted back in 2020 really just a precautionary move it’s kind of what Todd bus alluded to today that he’s still comfortable that he’s there at the facility working out and you know he’s working out with Luke eki getting those weight sessions in it really just seems like a matter of time just like with Antoine Winfield Jr where he was the highest paid DB very well could be that Tristan wors becomes the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL as well yeah and you know we talked about this uh sounded the alarm Bells a little bit in a p pulse over a week ago on pter Report TV you know even some fans kind of took exception saying oh well a deal is gonna get done yeah but when pan suell got that that contract extension from the Lions and it came in larger as a right tackle than laramy Tel’s deal as a left tackle did laramy tunel from Houston making $25 million uh per year on average and then having pen Su come in at 28 million I mean usually you see a little bit of a stair step right Adam where it’s like all right you’re at 25 so we’ll come in at at 25.0 25 million or 25 and a half or maybe even 26 but to kind of just jump right to 28 million per year a $3 million uh leap per season that’s that was a little uh cut the bucks off off guard a little bit and and kind of set negotiations back and that’s kind of what I alluded to in that peeter pulse and that’s exactly what’s happened and that’s why ws’ deal has not been finalized yet and I think that the main thing is wors and I have to give him credit because he’s been at the team facility he’s communicated with Todd Bulls he has done everything right in terms of this but he’s only guaranteed $18 million a year and so yeah you don’t want him to go out there and sustain a knee injury and we’ve seen hey ACL injuries can happen when there’s no contact you know you saw that firsthand last summer with Russell Gage up in New York yeah very much so anytime like a ligament could just pop out and without even contact or Teddy Bridgewater with the Vikings back in the day and I really like the point you made with the contract and how P will kind of reset the market a little bit too much it’s kind of reminiscent um I’m sure you remember with Sime and rice back in the day when the Buccaneers really made him the highest defensive player for a couple of Seasons yeah and so it’s going to take some time for the bucks front office and Tristan Worf’s agent and his Camp to really work out a deal but again Tristan wors he just seems like a Buccaneer and yeah this is what Todd bus had to say yeah I’m aware that it’s voluntary me and Tristan had a conversation plenty of conversations he’s still working out he’s been here all off season so I’m comfortable with that so you know don’t get too alarmed over this and and keep in mind too there is an order of things right Adam it’s like you look at the fact that that free agency Came Upon This team and all all teams in the middle of March they had to get a deal done with Mike Evans had to get a deal done with Baker Mayfield So those players wouldn’t hit free agency then of course Levante David’s deal was next and then you have this deadline of mid July where you had to get your franchise player Anto Winfield Jr under contract and of course they did that just last week so naturally Tristan Worf’s deal is going to be back burner because there is no deadline he’s on the fifth year option now both sides want a deal done sooner rather than later and I think it does happen before training camp starts that’s still two months away so yeah um the this this is not unexpected in terms of of Worf’s deal getting kind of put on the back burner and probably you know slowed down a little bit due to the pan soel deal that kind of came out of nowhere yeah and just you hit the nail on the head when you were talking about all the other deals that the Bucks had to get done this off seon there’s so many big fish to fry that Tristan W is kind of left behind but getting wor steel done also means that’s the last step in the boat parade that Jason light alluded to back at the NFL scouting combine once he gets all those deals done but there’s still so much time in between the deadline of getting that deal done it really is going to come to fruition it’s more so a matter of when than if yep speaking of fish to fry rev fish chimes in here Mark fiser with a with a $999 super chat thanks so much Mark we really appreciate it thank just because another liman gets paid why should Worf’s bulk at a strong fair offer Bucks have a team to pay Brady and Baker knew this meaning that they didn’t take you know the the top upper echelon deals right Baker Mayfield is the 16th highest paid quarterback in the league which is fair yeah the funny thing is he’s the third highest paid in the division behind Derek Carr and then of course behind Kirt cousins um and Tom Brady was never the highest paid quarterback in any year that he was in the league even though he was the best quarterback there was for most of that time so he continues and says is this greed ego or and I’m not quite sure what that is words wors doesn’t hit me as a selfish player and and and I agree I I this is not being selfish that this is really just the Buccaneers I think wanting to make him the highest paid um offens lineman they did that with with Anon Winfield Jr making him the highest paid defensive back the beauty of this is if you if you give him a a five-year deal for example okay uh then you’ve got a situation where you’ve got five years where Tristan wfs doesn’t necessarily have to be um you know a a player that that that is constantly having to be the highest paid I mean he’s he’s going to slide down letter V vea at$ 17.75 million per year right now is a defensive tackle right but a couple years ago he was one of the the higher paid defensive tackles so if you pay them now over the next four to five years it’s going to slide down a little bit you know yeah for sure and it’s not so much of a demanding position as quarterback where they’re constantly reupping and renegotiating New Deals once you pay an offensive lineman it kind of stays status quo yeah exactly so let’s uh let’s get to some of the the video today uh we we talked to the the players uh some of them after the practice and we’ll talk more about about what some of the int intricacies are um within the O OTA practice today um some of the highlights we can get into that I did drop today’s bucks otaa Insider in the chat so you can check that out but I think the biggest thing is uh Jordan Whitehead had a chance to speak today along with Chris Godwin Chris Godwin yeah is going to be entering a contract year much like what we saw with Mike Evans where he’s going to have to to play on that the Bucks are not going to come to the uh negotiating table and this year they’re GNA have to wait and see you know uh how Chris Godwin fares this year this is what Chris had to say yeah I mean I think like I feel like one thing that you guys like you know have learned like with me and Mike is you know like I feel like we’re we like the ultimate Pros right like we come in we handle our business um we understand like off bu up is a business is a business element there too kind of like have to let that take care of itself but you know like we’re both guys that enjoy what we do we enjoy the people that we work with so you know I’m just I’m grateful to be here grateful to be out here and putting the work in and you know it’s it’s a beautiful day here you know it’s hard it’s hard it’s hard to beat the these bright sunny days right even though it’s warm it’s like man like the humidity is not fully here yet so that’s a pleasure that’s a pleas you know here’s the thing with Chris God and you and I and bayy talked about this too it it’s one thing to play general manager of the Buccaneers in our own minds right and look at the salary cap and look at the roster and do it from like an onp paper perspective almost like playing general manager in franchise mode in Madden right where you just kind of soullessly making these decisions about the team you know but let’s look at the cap and let’s look at the roster and all this and I even did a peer pulse about Chris godman and Jaylen McMillan who might be his replacement next year we’ll see but when you hear Chris Godwin talk and you see that he’s here and a couple of the other guys weren’t here The Usual Suspects VI DEA Mike Evans they’ve kind of had a spotty track record of making OTAs in the past but of course they show up on Sundays during the season but Chris Godwin’s always there he’s always like being the leader he’s got the C on his chest and so you sit there clinically and looking looking at this and saying okay well I don’t know if this team is going to be able to afford two20 million receivers for the next couple of years if they give Chris godman a big contract extension then you listen to Chris Adam and you’re like gosh this guy’s such a pro if he has a really good year how can you not keep him yeah not just a pro but uh as you mentioned in that same press conference him and Mike Evans are ultimate pros and he wears that c on his chest for good reason one thing that I’ve noticed is that he’s always the same guy uh last season through wins losses uh the thing when his wife started speaking out he is a levelheaded guy and really one of the biggest leaders not just for the offense but the team in general just the way he talks you you get motivated and you’re like man I ball out for Tampa Bay and that’s something that he’s done and in the past three seasons one thing that he kind of spoke on was being consistent yeah and Mike Evans everybody knows his 10 straight 10,00 yard seasons but Chris Godwin has three of his own including the season when he had the an ACL so being able to overcome that ACL injury and he’s still working at getting better still wants to be that consistent guy it’s one thing to look ahead at the future and say hey can’t pay Mike Evans and Chris Godwin all this money but at the same time you’re like Chris Godwin has value in other areas that you really can’t quantify no you’re right and and we’ll see I mean I think the Buccaneers are doing the right thing by putting Chris godman back in the slot for a a lot of the right reasons number one I think he’s the best suited guy to play in the slot number two he even talked to bet today it’s just an area where he feels really comfortable all right I mean it it’s a little bit of a gift it’s kind of easy to sit there and say okay well he’s a wide receiver and he’s going up against slot Corners which are typically the third best corner on the team not always but you know typically and linebackers you know in zone coverage and safeties that might come down and and walk on you know like uh you know H having a one-on-one type of situation and coverage and him being able to navigate those things and I’m I’m just telling you it’s like you know he he really is has a knack for for making those those types of plays in the middle of the field he he can navigate that traffic better than most yeah and it it speaks to his versatility too being asked last year to play on the outside when he really does profile best is a slot wide receiver but he can hurt defenses in multiple different ways so putting him back in Liam Liam Cohen’s offense to really be that slot guy it really allows him to play to his strengths and being able to separate off the line of scrimmage and really just use his route running ability he’s a really Savvy route Runner and although he may have lost maybe half a step after the ACL injury he still provides a lot of value it’s just about getting him in those situations and then also finding the end zone last year didn’t really find The End Zone but if he does and gets back to that level I mean very easily could be one of the best wide receiver Duos in the league kind of like it was in 2020 2021 when you had Tom Brady and the offense really just firing on all cannons yeah it’s it’s not really Chris’s fault right Adam it’s yeah but you know because he doesn’t he can’t throw passes to himself no and listen M Mike Evans is the ultimate touchdown Target right he’s he’s the Red Zone thre five you know yeah 65 when you’re when you’re six foot six foot one Baker Mayfield He’s the easier guy to find but I think being in the middle of the field is going to afford him more opportunities in the Red Zone where he can do some damage it’s just the problem is the Buccaneers want to see his his uh touchdown regression which has gone from nine touchdowns in 2019 to seven the next year to five the year after to three in 2022 to 2023 where he only had two touchdown receptions last year he did have one on an end round but he’s got to get that touchdown production number up a little bit I think he’s going to be at 56 seven for this team to really feel good about okay you got another thousand yard season you’re going to be 29 in next year but are you putting points on the board helping us win games I think I think that that Godwin being in that slot receiver role can can do that yeah and especially when you look at a couple of the guys behind Mike and Chris that really could add some speed on the outside and Jaylen McMillan and Trey Palmer uh Chris kind of had some fun today talking about both of them saying that he really liked Jaylen and then also had some uh fun things to say about Trey as well yeah we’ll play that video about what he has to say about Trey Palmer Trey is a Tre is a unique individual and I think like you know the more you guys get to talk to him the more you guys will realize that I think he’s like authentically himself and like you know like that’s rare like sometimes like guys will get to the NFL and and they’ll start feeling like they got to be a third way but man Tre is always him and I I really really respect that about him um has like this like childhood kind of like Joy about him and like he comes in and like he’s kind of like goofy but he like he’s very serious about his work he’s very serious about about his performance and I think that he doesn’t take anything like too too serious so like yeah like he has some ups and downs but I think that like his ability to bounce back you know is going to really really help him as he continues to progress in his career so um I’m proud of him so far and you know I think Trey is going to continue to be a big part of of what we do man I think the more talented guys we have in our roomi the better off we’ll be well said there by Chris Godwin and and Jaylen McMillan only adds another weapon to this team and I think provides some cover in case there’s an injury I mean let’s not forget that last year and this is really rare Adam when you think about this and it’s it’s kind of a double-edged sword because the Buccaneers despite all of what I’m about to say happening were still only nine and eight but Baker Mayfield Rashad white Kade odden we’re talking about the starting quarterback running back and end Chris Godwin Mike Evans the two starting main wide receivers Tristan wors Luke gtii Cody ma Robert hany that’s the other starting receivers and that’s the starting offensive line minus the left guard position all those players started all 19 games last year yeah right I mean that is an incredible track record for health when it comes to an entire offensive unit yeah Ian you’re talking about really only Matt fer missing some time with that injury and then stinny came in and and didn’t miss any time so this was a very healthy team last year and and I think that that that if there is an injury at wide receiver having a guy like Jaylen McMillan who will start outside at the Z at the flanker position competing with Trey palmer but also have the ability to play inside in the slot is going to give this team a little cover but also too it’s going to push Trey Palmer to be a better receiver because he can’t have those those drops anymore he can’t fumble the ball anymore because he’s gonna have a a rookie breathing right down his neck um you know pushing him for a starting job next year as that wide receiver three and a rookie wide receiver that very well could be the steal at the position in the draft when you look at McMillan falling to the third round really only because of injury and the fact that he was playing alongside Roman dun and Jaylen pulk and when you look at it it really was unpressed unprecedented that the Bucks offense really really had no injuries at at any position and then you look at guys like Kate Aon and Rashad white really playing the LI Sheriff snaps at those positions that’s something you don’t see too much so you look at McMillan another guy Bucky Irving those rookies could really have an impact on the offense this year when injuries do arise as they might more often this year than they did last year yeah I mean the Buccaneers were fortunate last year they really were you can’t count on that happening again the same time hats off to Bobby Slater the vice president of the strength and conditioning and the the sports medicine aspect of of the team for really U you know aside from from a couple of of uh soft tissue injuries they really didn’t have guys going on inj your reserve and the guys that did Chase Edmonds the kijah cany well actually KY didn’t even go in injur reserve he essentially did because he missed four games but it was really really Chase Edmonds was the guy Rahe Jarrett who tore a quad U outside of that I mean you didn’t have uh the starters going in injur reserve outside of Ryan Jensen and he just couldn’t come back from that career- ending knee injury so we’ll see if they can stay healthy but but having Trey Palmer get some competition for that wide receiver three spot I think is is also really good for for com the sake of competition it’s gonna make the rookie better it’s gonna make Trey Palmer better and we got some some glimpses again we saw the the Bucks rookie mini camp but of what this offense under Liam Cohen is going to be like and it really is pretty Dynamic I mean you’re talking about a lot more shifts a lot more motion and it is it’s going to cause some problems for defenses and I think it’s really going to help the Bucks defense too going up against this type of offense that really makes you communicate and really makes you think and be on your your toes at all times because it’s a very quick fast-paced rhythmic offense and Chris Godwin I think really seems to to like it this is what he had to say about uh about the the moving parts of Liam coh’s offense I think like I I think it’s a lot of diversity I think that um there’s going to be a lot of moving parts for defenses that like have to figure out and um I think like how their teaching is going to allow for us to have um I don’t say like a lot of like cohesiveness within the offense right like we have a bunch of different like terms or phrases that can like get us into like one formation or one play that looks like different play so I think how it all marries up will be like really beneficial for us yeah you know and the other thing too is when you look at at what Liam Cohen’s offense does with a lot of bunch receiver sets you’re talking about some free releases you’re talking about creating some confusion yeah about you know this receiver is going this way at the snap this one’s taking you know a straight shot down the field on maybe a go route or maybe it’s a skinny post uh then you got another receiver running a Crosser that ends up you know um you know being a smash route and hits to the sidelines there’s just so much that’s going on that it’s going to really attack opposing defenses but I think it’s gonna help Todd bs’ defense too definitely and when you look at Todd BS defense it kind of thrives on the complexity and that diversity of different Blitz packages and utilizing players in different ways you see a lot of parallels to the offense that Liam Cohen wants to run and the fact that there are going to be those Bunch wide receiver sets then also the utilization of having a running game and it really being a point of emphasis and Kate outon kind of talked about today that he’s focused on becoming a better blocker yeah to really see the field and give Rashad white and Bucky Irving those chances to really thrive in the Run game because if they get that going it really does open everything else on offense kind of similar to the defense when you have the pass rush clicking then the secondary is able to lock up if you can marry the run and pass much like you can do on defense with the pass rush and the coverage I mean you’re winning a lot of football games and there there’s a very easy way that the Bucks can improve on their nine and eight record if they hone in on those little aspects I agree and I know this is new offense it’s going to be a little bit more challenging a little bit more complex but you look at a guy like Kate on you mentioned Kate right he’s he’s entering his third year still a very young player but he’s got three years as a full-on experienced player I he played 98% of the snaps last year yeah at tight end that’s that’s a Herculean feat by itself so you’re talking about guys that really aren’t rookies anymore certainly guys like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans they’ve been around the block they’ve been in multiple offenses they picked him up they’ve had some success talking you know 10 straight 10,00 yard seasons for Mike Evans three straight 1,00 yard seasons for Chris Godwin they keep coming they just keep coming and and I believe that that as they pick up these you know these nuances of Liam Cohen’s scheme it’s a little bit more uh diverse it’s a little bit more advanced and you marry that with Baker Mayfield’s ability to call audibles now where he’s gonna go to line of scrimmage with multiple plays multiple run and pass and basically pick which one he likes depending on what he sees and there’s going to be a lot of motion that is going to uh you know be a tell whether it’s man or zone defense that Baker and the offense is facing and I just like that I also love the fact too that the Buccaneers because of of their one by3 or 3 by one sets they’re going to be dictating to the defense you’re going to have to play a lot of nickel or dime because we’ve G to put a lot of of receivers on the field and what that’s going to do is that’s gonna I think create lighter boxes that’s gonna Aid this running game it’s gonna help Bucky Irving help Rashad white uh not have to run into loaded boxes anymore because you’re just not going to see two tight in sense that’s a great point and last season you saw so often that defenses would really Bunch up the and that would create so many challenges for the offensive line and the tight ends at the beginning of the Season trying to work in a new offense they’re not able to give Rashad white a hold the run through so if a defense is in dime and then you have a guy like Bucky Irving who Josh Capo has written plenty about in forcing missed tackles it really does open up that big play Dynamic and if you have Trey Palmer coming in next year limiting the drops and the fumbles a guy like Bucky Irving Jaylen McMillan you get those young guys that are able to provide that spark and then you have your rocks on offense and Mike Evans and Chris Godwin the offense has a lot of potential it really does and and I yeah we saw it improve from 18 points per game under Byron Le witch where you know he didn’t have Antonio Brown and and Rob gronowski to deploy and it was really just the Chris and Mike and Tom Brady show and and it wasn’t enough and we kind of saw that that really it was more the players it was more the having four top-notch weapons for the the greatest quarterback of all time to throw to and in in a fantastic offensive line they was decimated with the injury to Ryan Jensen the sudden retirement of alyar pet but Byron Le witch couldn’t scheme his way out of it he just didn’t yeah quite frankly didn’t have the you know the the knowledge and expertise as a play caller to help the team out he was basically just well let’s see what which Bruce Aran play we can run right now and they didn’t have the forces to get the job done so you saw them fall from 30 points per game to 18 points per game in 2022 Canales comes in rookie play caller and it shot up to 21 points per game which was helpful and beneficial you saw more scoring as the season went on the Green Bay game the the Eagles game of course that 32 points that they put up actually 30 points I guess we have to give Anthony Nelson two points for the safety but you saw you saw that this offense really start to kind of come to life a little bit more towards the end of the season I think that the number that would be disappointing if the Bucks offense didn’t hit this year is 24 points per game and I think that’s a reasonable number to go up three more points one more field goal per game and we’ll see how the rest of the league does there’s always going to be a team or two that’s that’s either at 30 or bumping 30 points per game right and for years it was the Buccaneers the Dallas Cowboys kind of have that that uh you know uh pench it for doing that now but at 24 points per game you’re probably somewhere between 15th in the league 12th in the league maybe even 10th in the league you know you’re not slightly above average slightly above average yeah you’re not like in the top 10 per se but you’re kind of like bumping it right there and I think if they can do that in this in this season where they’re transitioning from Canal’s offense to Cohen’s offense I think they’re going to win some more games and probably Fair better later in the season when it comes to scoring points Point like they did last year and and that’s where you want to be peing offensively is in the playoffs yeah definitely and even without Canal it’s just a overall continuity on offense with so much of the offensive line remaining intact you have Baker Mayfield coming back there really is that that growth that the offense can experience kind of like it did late in the season carry that over in the next season and kind of avoid those Clunkers too I think that’s a big aspect is if Baker Mayfield I think you wrote about it he had like seven Clunkers if he can knock out like half of those and really just be more consistent week in and week out this offense really could score 24 points a game or even a little bit more I agree and you know some of those Clunkers they end up winning right go to that Falcons game he completed 48% of his passes but down the stretch in that last drive hit a couple big ones Chris Godwin had one that course the touchdown pass to kot and to put them on top you know was another so uh but yeah if if he can if he can Whittle that number down a little bit and and become a more consistently Le better quarterback I think that that you’re going to see the Bucs win some more games and it’s going to be a much better season in terms of scoring um speaking of scoring uh Richard teroka says congratulations to kot and his wife on their pregnancy that’s right yeah we we’re going to see another Buccaneer baby here we’ve already seen Tristan wors uh and Baker Mayfield become fathers kot is next he is going to be a father in late June right around the corner so a little baby girl on the way for the oton family and so we want to wish them a congratul congratulations on their pregnancy and it’s kind of exciting news and of course great way to time it during the off season so you can you can uh you know have a little bit of time with the little one before you know Daddy has to report to work and and do a training camp and and head into the football season yeah and it really is a bucks Baby Boom with all the it is all the babies going around yep exactly well uh if you want to put a little boom into your day uh I recommend you do what I do which is grab a Celsius it’s the was good to see Jordan Whitehead back and this guy’s he’s not the biggest safety but man he’s got some guns he yeah he has no stranger to the waight room and I think he’s gotten even bigger he was a big dude when he was here the first go round but couple years in New York with the Jets and um you know he’s got some some guns that are locked and loaded this is what Jordan White had had to say about some of the the changes on the Bucks defense if there is any um and because he’s been gone for a little while and and and we listen to what he had to say with some things you’ve been away for a couple of years what’s maybe some of the the more subtle changes that you’ve noticed from what you guys were doing to what you guys have in store for 2024 oh yeah um you know it’s kind of crazy cuz the defense I came back the first day was a little a little blurry and then the second day was like everything came back to me and uh as walkthroughs came and we went did some walkthroughs everything came back and it’s not too much different it’s just you know he has a lot of calls and that messes with the offense you got so many call you got to study every night just cuz you know it’s a lot of different things and um he he asked a lot the the defensive backs and the safety so you just got to be on point and do what he has yeah there’s Jordan white ahead he’s kind of rocked up as you can see for somebody who’s just maybe 5’10 close to 200 pounds but um you know speaking of the rock I mean this is a player that went to New York played a lot of cover four whereas Todd bus plays more cover one cover three and he was used in the Box quite a bit in Tampa Bay and now he has some of those coverage ability you know increases in terms of his ability to take away the the ball through interceptions break up passes and and do things deeper in coverage and we know that Todd BS likes to rotate his safeties uh in I don’t mean in and out of the game I mean sometimes you’ll have Winfield in the box and he’ll rotate the strong safety back to free safety and because you really can’t have Antoine Winfield Jr getting those six sacks if he’s lined up 15 yards off the ball you got to put him in in the box and in the slot sometimes yeah and I just wanted to go back to the point on Jordan Whitehead being pretty built you know it’s my first time seeing him out there at one Buck BL today and man like I thought Dave Canalis had guns Jordan Whitehead he is a well bu built dude and when you go back to his time in New York as you mentioned learning different uh defensive coverages playing back a little bit more he’s really become a more well-rounded player and I think that ties in well to him becoming and remaining like a seamless fit in Tampa Bay and already having that connection with Antoine Winfield Jr who he mentioned he kept in contact regularly as he was getting his new deal done but for Jordan Whitehead what I what I really like about him is he mentioned that to be a Todd Bulls defensive back you have to study every day you have to be an active student and just by listening to him you can really tell that that’s something he Prides himself in and something that results have shown on the field that he’s worked at getting better uh when he went to New York the past two seasons increased his tackle output uh Embrace new responsibilities instead of backing away from them and all this ties into him maybe reaching his Peak coming back to Tampa Bay yeah and I think too when you look at the fact that Winfield now if he wasn’t known before right at as the $84 million man making 2.02 five million a year and making the allpro team well quarterbacks are going to naturally want to go away from him very much like how Baker Mayfield said yeah I played against Jesse Bates for a while in the in the NFC or the AFC North when I was with the Bengals or I should say when I was with the Browns he was with the Bengals and now we saw Bates come to Atlanta and what he have five interceptions last year but none against the Buccaneers because Baker Mayfield simply just stayed away from him and so now you can see teams probably going in other directions with the ball and and that’s going to benefit guys like Jordan whitehead right when you see a player that that like I mentioned on yesterday’s podcast Ronda barar he had 10 interceptions in in 2001 and then I think only had two the next year well where did those interceptions go well they went to Brian Kelly he had eight to lead the a the NFC so it’s going to create more opportunities for other players when you have a guy like Winfield in the second so Jan you better get on the JS machine you better catch some some passes Z McCollum it’s time to get your first interception or two or three or four because you’re going to get some opportunities coming your way and Jordan Whitehead now who was not really known as an Interceptor during his first intint in Tampa Bay has improved those ball skills and the ability to track the ball in coverage and I think can be a big time beneficiary of playing next to Winfield again definitely and I’d argue that the strong safety position that Whitehead now occupies probably the biggest upgrade among all the positions that the Bucks had when you go from Ryan Neil and maybe D Delany to Jordan Whitehead just again plugging in a really solid player it does so much more for antoan Winfield Jr to kind of have free reain lining up in different places for Jamal Dean and Z McCullum to have more support on the back end now it’s about getting that production and really there’s no excuse at this point yeah no I agree when you’re talking about support and production when it comes to real estate well there’s there’s one place to turn and that is our good friends over at the Eric gross group that’s Eric and Caitlyn gross and they want to help you either sell your home or buy a home and why wouldn’t you because they’re one of the best companies in the today 513 97427 and visit their website houses.com let’s get back to some of what Jordan Whitehead had to say he’s talking about the the fact that Antoine Winfield Jr cashed in on a new deal just the other day yeah when uh I’ve been keeping in touch with them as things been going on behind the scenes and you know he was just like man we need to get this done and I you know you definitely deserve it but for him to get that done you know him coming in as rookie and I was already here seeing that you know I can’t can’t be more happier than for him and uh gu he is the leader he is um you know he’s he deserves it everybody knows that everybody sees what he does on the field and how he handles himself so definitely happy to be back yeah good stuff there from Whitehead and one more thing and we’ll talk a little offensive line to wrap up the show here but this is uh Jordan Whitehead talking about Baker Mayfield remember the quarterback that he had here last time in Tampa Bay was was Tom Brady and then uh you know Brady retires and Whitehead is is in New York and then he comes back and all of a sudden Baker Mayfield is not just the quarterback of the Buccaneers but also quite a competitor and leader Baker’s a competitor he’s been a competitor since College since I know him and um you know that that’s the type of guy you kind of want leading the team you know you get Tom Brady’s and Aaron Rogers and things like that and you know that’s great too but when you got a competitor that’s going to leave it on the line for your teammates and you know just how he plays the game you know he he he runs the ball he throws the ball he doing everything whenever his asking for that’s that’s the type of guy you know you want le as they lined up for calisthenic you put all the offensive players over here on the right side of the field all in their white jerseys you have all of the defensive players on left side of the field in the red jerseys and you got that guy in the orange Jersey Baker Mayfield right there in the middle of the red jerseys hanging with the defensive players he’s not just the leader on the offense he’s the leader of this team and that’s something that he did last year to help ingratiate himself to not just becoming uh the leader of the offense but a true team captain and get to know the guys in the defensive side because they’re going to help get the ball back for you or if you need a stop they’re going to be the ones to do it to get the ball back for the offense so it it’s it’s good to see Baker in that mentality I I think that’s just something that you don’t see around the league there’s not a lot of quarterbacks that are that are going to be you know chumming up with the defensive lineman and that’s exactly where Baker sticks himself is right there next to Logan Hall you know and Joe Tran shink and some of those guys on the uh the defensive side and he’s really in a lot of ways like a throwback player in that regard and just it it’s been said before that he plays a game with an offensive lineman me mentality and the way that he carries himself he’d be a good work boss because all the players around him they want to work harder knowing that he’s there in the trenches he’s going to stiff arm a guy in the secondary he’s gonna fight until that clock says zero in the fourth quarter and that’s something that a lot of the Bucks players they’ve really grown to admire about him and then not just that he really goes out of his way to build those connections like you saw that in the offseason going to dive bars with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin taking his offensive lineman on a trip to the Bahamas in in just so many ways Baker Mayfield He’s not only the he Not only was the right quarterback to replace Tom Brady in that regard but he’s really the right quarterback for this current Bucks team as a transition into a new era because he wants to be competitive yeah and you see that every every game day yeah there’s no doubt about it uh we want to make sure that you check out uh some of the shows we have coming coming up this week and also yeah I mean it’s it’s a pretty fun week I mean we’re talking bucks OTAs it was good to see little bit can we call it football it’s more like flag football but it it was just fun to see some players out there with helmets on and jerseys running around throwing the ball catching it doing all sorts of crazy things uh tomorrow on the Peter Report podcast we’re going to be asking the question who runs the State of Florida when it comes to NFL teams are the Bucks the best Florida team is it the Dolphins is it the Jaguars or is it your Tampa Bay Buccaneers special guest Mara Carey will be here from golf live she covers the Bucks the Dolphins and the Jaguars she lives in St Pete so she is more partial to showing up at uh the the team facility and and dialing into Tampa Bay coverage so it’ll be a fun conversation tomorrow and then of course at four o’clock on Thursday we’ve talked about this for a couple weeks now Jason light the Bucks channel manager will be joining us live Adam and I will be quizzing the Bucks general manager and asking him some questions that uh you know that I think is going to elicit some interesting answers so make sure that you stay tuned to Thursday show bucks channel manager Jason Jason light live at four o’clock and then in two weeks from Thursday on June 6th we’ll have special guest bucks assistant general manager and cap Jedi Mike Greenberg will be joining the Peter Report podcast and talking everything from contracts and free agency to the role he plays to working with Jason light and and even working with Mark Dominic this guy goes back to the Dominic regime in terms of of umh when he was hired and and his longevity with the team even going back further than Jason light so some great content here on Peter Report TV make sure that you are subscribing to Peter Report TV we’re over 14,000 thanks to you Petter people we love you guys we do the show just for you yeah and also hit the like button hit the like button and leave a comment those two things when you do those it helps our computer Report podcast get further up in the the YouTube algorithm and helps us attract and and and get more computer uh P Computer people’s eyeballs on our content and that’s what we want we want to grow this Channel and we want to to help educate the masses and help uh help us find more Buccaneer fans if you can do those two things hit the like button leave a comment even if it’s great show even if it’s you know we want to see more Adam slavon and less Scott Reynolds whatever the comment is you go ahead and leave it and uh that’ll just help us we greatly appreciate it I don’t know you’re the face that runs the place ah I’ve been here a long time I’m ready for some new faces um let’s let’s talk about some new faces uh Bucky Irving is a player that you know it’s so hard to kind of gauge running backs because there’s no pads and you know he this guy’s a tackle breaker he’s not going to be breaking any tackles because there’s no tackles to be broken during otaa it’s basically like twoand touch but man you see that first step quickness The Cutting ability he’s a very sudden player and a little bit of different style certainly different size at 59 192 compared to you know 6 foot 222 pound Rashad white but you can already kind of see what what makes Bucky Irving very intriguing as a running back yeah and like his skill set and not just being a runner that can elude tacklers but also a receiving back you saw that quite often last season at Oregon where he was catching a lot of passes I believe he caught like 50 passes so his skill set I think is going to translate really well into the NFL and I think he’ll kind of overcome all those athletic measurements and testing numbers because for a running back it’s really about timing it’s not so much about speed if you can hit your speed like right away then it’s not so much that you have to run 43 because a lot of the guys that run 4-3 they aren’t the most pure football players and when you look at Irving he kind of is a pure football player player and you saw that production the last two seasons where he really shined and he really has an intriguing skill set yeah that that acceleration is so key because it’s not about the 70 yard touchdown run in the NFL that you’re going to have in college those are are rare right it’s it’s about the 17 yard run it’s can you get a sevenard run which you average seven yards to carry in the NFL you’re in the Pro Bowl and you’re getting paid right I mean that that’s that’s a healthy number you get a seven y you get a 17 Yer uh that’s that’s how you make your money that’s how you get you know over a 100 yards rushing per game and and that’s how your running game shoots way up the rankings and and not finish dead last and and I think that he’s a guy that can do that does he have that long speed is he gonna get caught from behind I don’t think he has the long speed I think he will get caught from behind some but I think he has the enough ability to make you miss to break some tackles shake some tackles move the chains and rip off some big runs that will uh that’ll help you know excite the fan base and and get this offense moving yeah and I really thought that the comparisons to Kiron Williams uh when both of them when you look at their Ras numbers those being very similar and the fact that Liam Cohen worked with Kiron Williams it kind of gives you like a little foreshadowing not into how he will be utilized because there’s a lot of ways that Bucky Irving can impact the game and be more than just that change of pace back he could very well be the one be to Rashad White’s onea and maybe lighten the load for Rashad just a little bit because he had 272 carries last year and you don’t want to put so much tread on his tires but Bucky Irving I mean he looks ready to go yeah he does and and I think too when you look at at the offensive line because it starts there right you have to have some holes to to run through um I I think that we saw some glimpses of of kind of what it what it could look like and and what it it might be looking like uh this team right now they want grah Barton to be the starting center in reality right now day one Robert hanesy knows what he’s doing right grah Barton’s still a rookie this is his first OTA practice Hay’s been there and done that and hany looks a little bit bigger he’s not pictured here but but hany was the starting center today Gran Barton was the backup center and then you had sua opeda the new guard and this is a picture of him courtesy the Buccaneers working in the weight room he’s he’s a big dude he’s pretty pretty well put together and uh he was the starting left guard without Tristan wors Justin school was the left tackle Cody Mal was the was the starting Right Guard no surprise and same with L gtii at right tackle uh Cody Mal did have his back kind of tighten up a little bit today and didn’t finish the practice we’ll keep an eye on it but he’s had some some back spasms and stuff before so it’s it’s something that you know he’s played through and and we’ll see if it’s just a slight occurrence or if it’s something to be a little bit more concerned about but um you know then then you had suetta being the left guard with the first team Ben bredeson was the left guard on the second team so both of those newcomers I think are vying for that that left guard position and it looks like right now Cody ma is going to stay at Right Guard at least that’s what we saw on day one when you look at the left guard position though Scott who is maybe the guy that you want to start there would you want to see a switch from Right Guard to left guard for Mal would you want to see sua or maybe Elijah Klein get that when you look at it as things stand now because there’s so much time between now and the season who do you want as the left guard I mean I think sua if he you know if if if they’re all equal right if if they all kind of like you’re just like throwing darts or just picking a name out of a hat I think suetta looks the part a little bit more and he’s got some experience I like the fact that he comes from Philadelphia they ran the ball exceptionally well there and that’s an area that that they want to improve as as Liam Cohen or as Chris Godin said Liam Cohen is focused on getting the Run game going that’s his Focus so I think I’d start there Elijah kle I love his mentality eventually maybe he’s the guy but I I think sua would be a good choice on opening day if all things are are equal now Ben Brees ends up being the guy or even Elijah tly then okay so be it that’s what competition’s uh you know all about but I do like the fact that maybe they’re keeping Mal at Right Guard yeah I don’t know that makes a lot of sense now after giving this guy an entire season at Right Guard this is not like Luke gki where Cody Mount failed miserably at Right Guard where gki just did not look like an NFL guard at at all he looks natural at his right tackle position but I like what I saw from Mal and gtii towards the end of the season especially in the Run game some those combo blocks the Rhythm the the chemistry that those two have on that side I wouldn’t I wouldn’t mess up a a good thing and I could Cody ma play left guard sure he’s Pro might even be a little bit more natural there because he played left tackle at North Dakota State yeah but don’t don’t make a change just for the the sake of making a change I don’t know that that that right side is broken to the point where you want to fix it I think you give Mal another year next to gki remember that was first year for Cody Mal playing Right Guard in the NFL and Luke get’s first year at right tackle in the NFL let those guys grow together and and I think they can they can really form a nice one-w punch on that side of the line that’s a great point and when you look at Mal he just he really looks like an NFL guard and just the fact that he’s so athletic and able to get to that second level and really align himself well and picking up blocks and really knocking guys to the ground you get him you keep him at Right Guard for another year there’s a lot of growth there and I think he barely scratches potential yet yeah know I I totally agree uh and if you’re looking for growth when it comes to you know maybe your portfolio well do what I do when I use an immunity Financial uh for my portfolios and for a lot of my investments uh I’ve been a Happy Camp over the last couple of years they’ve been able to manage some of the financial storms that we’ve seen in the in the stock three teams for goli.com and on Thursday special guest bucks channel manager Jason light multitude of questions that Adam and I will be asking the Bucks GM so don’t miss either one of those shows at 4 o’clock Eastern time we’d love to have you join the the live shows and ask questions too of Mara and also of Jason and uh we’ll we’ll have plenty of questions as well so any other closing comments or observations from today’s uh um bucks OTA was disappointed V wasn’t there wanted to see him Todd BS did kind of reiterate what Casey Rogers said the Bucks defensive line coach V has lost some weight looks good he wants to see him continue in that Trend Logan H though 295 pounds looks bigger too he needed to gain some more weight yeah definitely especially if he wants to have more of an impact along the defensive line uh one other observation I had kind of mentioning at the start of the show concerns about Tristan wors kind of brushing those aside same goes for the rookies maybe starting off slow today uh with Gran Barton being getting those second string reps at Center Chris brazwell didn’t have the best of days out there it’s only the first day of OTAs though that’s right and these rookies have such a long way to go into becoming key players for the bucks next season so Al They although they may have started off slow there’s just still so much time for them to really Blossom well said I think that’s that’s very well said and you know what you got to start somewhere there was a time where we started off with one subscriber on our pter report YouTube channel now we’re over 1. Not worried about Wirfs or the Bucs. They will get it done. Wirfs needed to protect himself from injury so that was smart. Had to get Antoine done first because he was under the franchise tag. Besides Wirfs has been here all off season and a little rest before the camps start will keep him fresh. Would not be surprised it Licht suggested it to Wirfs team. This is generational money for his future children's children. Don't want him to blow out a knee in a OTA.

  2. If Baker gets full control at the line of scrimmage we are likely to see a big jump to production on offense. When he was with the Browns, in a power struggle with Stefanski, each time they let him take control pre-snap, he would basically drive downfield and score some points. Although a small sample size, his pre-snap reads and ability to call the right audible seem quite good.

  3. These OTA's are voluntary we should not worry, the deal will get done. He's just getting in some time with his newborn son

  4. Are we sure they had no injuries orrr was it that they didn’t sit out for those injuries due to no depth? Saw Evans, Godwin, Wirfs and White limp around a bit here and there… Haisney to if I’m not mistaking
