Should The Detroit Lions FILL The Veteran SAFETY VOID By Signing Tashaun Gipson Sr?
while the Detroit Lions roster may be at Max Capacity right now there’s no doubt there will be some changes as the offseason continues and we got mini camp approaching very quickly before you know it we will be uh right within the season which is absolutely crazy to me the fact that we have 105 days until the NFL season begins and even less if you’re accounting the preseason I think we have just over 70 until we get our first taste of Detroit Lions football and a lot of things have to happen in between time as far as roster moves and such with the eventually uh cutting down to the 53 man roster but I saw this yesterday and wanted to talk about it that is Bleacher Report put out an article about one move that every NFL team or each NFL team should make and to my surprise they didn’t have a pass rusher down there they had a safety somebody in the secondary now the Detroit Lions went very hard in the secondary when it comes specifically to quarterback because that was our weakest point last year but when at safety we wind up losing CJ Gardner Johnson and we have yet to really replace him now I know we have Kirby Joseph Brian branch and iffy melon but somebody’s going to have to come in and spell those guys and in addition to that we have now lost the veteran leadership when it comes to that secondary the longest 10e safety secondary person I should say or safety is I want to say ify m going into year number four and I still think that we could bring that veteran leader in here to kind of show the the you know the guys the way and be that vocal presence and even that presence on the field that we lack in my opinion now we’ve talked about quandre Diggs we have talked about Justin Simmons two safeties by the way that are still currently on the market I know Jamal Adams met with the Baltimore Ravens I personally don’t want him but I think the Baltimore Ravens are a perfect fit for his style of play so that would be something to watch out for but as far as safety I got my eyes on uh quandre Diggs and Justin Simmons those are the two guys it would be Justin Simmons and then quandre Diggs but Bleacher Report has someone out there that I did not even think of until now and you can see it right on the banner there that the Detroit Lions should shine sign taan Gibson senior here’s what they had to say says Kirby Joseph posted a 52.3 curvage grade from PFF if that’s what you look for during the regular season last year making the free safety spot one of the few question marks on the Lions roster right now meanwhile Gibson posted a grade of 73.5 and is a 12-year veteran who could help Mentor Detroit’s young secondary he will be he is currently 34 and he will obviously be going into year 13 plus it helps that the soon to be 34y old has some playoff experience after spending the last two seasons in San Francisco he could at least serve as a coach in pads to speak so to speak and provide some competition to push Joseph to elevate his game now you know what the funny part is I don’t know if this guy played during the NFC title game I don’t I can’t say oh you know this guy really stuck out to me so I really don’t know so let me know your thoughts or did you do you remember seeing or hearing his name in the NFC title game I have not watched on television so I only saw what I saw in the stadium let’s go and let’s look at his stats for his career and for the 2023 NFL season yeah 41 total tackles or yeah 41 solo I’m sorry no Force fumbles one interception and two three passes defended I don’t know what is happening to me today he is going on year 13 undrafted back in 2012 spent his first four seasons with the Cleveland Browns his next three with the Jacksonville Jaguars one with the Houston Texans two with the Chicago Bears and then the last two with the San Francisco 49ers the first thing that jumps off the pads is even in his later years he is relatively healthy only missed what one game last year no games the previous year uh five games before that and I want to say say this was the last year of the 16 Game season and he played all 16 so over the course of the last three years he has missed a total of six games that’s not bad and it seems like the older he’s been he hasn’t been that bad let’s look at his interceptions interceptions not too shabby he has 33 in his career he’s had wait a minute he’s had at least one int his entire career per year that’s insane at least one coming off uh in the last two years with San Francisco five and six if we go and we look at his salary which is to me the most important part when it comes to salary cap and things like that let me see in 2020 here it is signed a one-year deal this was last year the 2022 2020 I’m sorry 2023 season kind with the San Francisco 49ers including a $1 million signing bonus and 2.1 guaranteed for a total of 2.9 Million now if you’re talking about a guy that fits in the ballpark of age experience and monetary compensation he would be the perfect fit I’mma keep it a bug this guy Brad for everything good Brad Holmes is this is not a knock on Brad Holmes but we know we like he likes the older kind of season players if you will so you’ve got Justin Simmons who’s 31 you’ve got quandre Diggs who I believe is a little bit younger than Justin Simmons but both of those guys are 30 so this is the third safety that would be over 30 he no doubt would be the cheapest in my opinion would he have as much of an impact as those two guys I’m going to say no like I said earlier my it would be Justin Simmons I think he would bring everything we need still a great player veteran leadership it’s the money aspect and probably the length of contract I think with Justin and his age he’s probably going to win a multi-year deal and we know those are very tough to get very tough to get if you are coming into the Detroit Lions team Brad Holmes does not give a lot of outside players multi-year deals he just doesn’t do it right now I think we have aiek Robinson uh no not aiek Carlton Davis this one year right I think a Meek I think aiek that’s funny I think he might have got a multi-year deal David Montgomery got a multi-year deal cam Sutton got a multi year deal there’s not too many Detroit Lions players or current Detroit Lions players that come in from outside the team that get Montie deals put all the ones you can remember in the comment section below Brad likes to take care of his players internally first and then start to bring players in that way Alex anzelone he had he had a one-year deal then he worked you know Josh Reynolds khif Raymond all them guys came in on oneyear deals and then they had to earn their other deals so I could see that being the problem with Justin Simmons quandre Diggs he’s probably going to get a one-year deal I wouldn’t be surprised if he got if he got anything more than a one-year deal anywhere he went I would be surprised so I think that’s a guy that if you wanted a one-year deal type thing still get a quality safety I think that quandre digs would be the best choice but as far as like a veteran leader uh somebody who has playoff experience game experience who can lead the the young guys and be cheap then tan Gibson is the way to go so let me know your thoughts in the comments below what do you think about Mr Gibson senior do you think do you first of all let’s go back do you think that the Detroit Lions still need a safety I personally do I I I do truly believe that I think veteran leadership is super important for the team we have I believe we have the still the second youngest team in the National Football League these guys are going to need need some veteran leadership and since the secondary was was the worst part last last year that safety room right we could we we don’t have a season vet back there so I would I wouldn’t mind at this point man I wouldn’t mind I mean I don’t think it’s going to happen but another guy who’s not signed is former Detroit Lion Tracy Walker I think those are probably the three biggest names out there Tracy walker uh Jamal well for Jamal Adams Tracy Walker quandre Diggs and um just Simmons so let me know your thoughts in the comments below remember this channel is brought to you by viewers subscribers and members just like you in addition to that from the making of this video we If we don't get either Diggs or Simmons there's only one safety I want Brad Holmes to pick up: and thats Michigan Panthers safety Kai Nacua from the UFL. He wont break the bank, get him on a cheap one year deal. After that, I WILL BE COMPLETELY SATISFIED with our Defense. But Gipson wouldnt be a bad pick up either.
They should sign Justin Simmons. He's a baller and could help finalize an upgraded secondary room
I honestly don't see that happening, they should wait and see about another offensive linemen. Two go down, that could be a problem.
Arnold played two years at safety, Saban was very good with developing excellent defensive players.
I do believe we need another safety and a vet back there definitely needs someone to mentor that group. I wouldn't mind Tracy or diggs but even gipson to mentor would be great
How much room do we have under the cap??
I have some 9ers fans in my family. Iโve asked about him. Essentially he can make plays but half to most of the time he looked as lost as Will Harris did in the backfield.
Bring home diggs!
Naw Justin Simmons or quandre diggs ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
Simmons or diggs… Simmons would be the first choice for me.
Enough. We have more good players than we can keep now. An A+ offense and defense. We donโt need to be A++
Rather see Vaki back there
We donโt have an unlimited number of roster spots
One pride lion pride
I don't see it, the team just signed Moore, that's enough.
The roster doesn't have the room unless someone in the secondary gets hurt. It's time to take the training wheels off of the other young defensive backs.
