[Craig Morgan] “Hearing Rio Nuevo is discussing an alternate proposal that would have the Roadrunners play just 6 games at Mullett Arena: 30 in Tucson. If approved, there will be no need for an AHL BOG vote on Thursday. Sources say Utah opposition to the original plan played a role here.”

The plot thickens.
So we’re already letting Utah control how hockey in Arizona works? Cool.
You know what would put Meruelo back in our good graces really quick? If he put out a statement telling Utah to suck a dick
Why does Utah care what we do?
Update from Craig: “Rio Nuevo district officials just passed this measure unanimously.”

EDIT: another update from Craig with more details: “Per AHL, the Roadrunners’ scheduled opponents for those 6 games at Mullett would need to approve the games in Tempe. The AHL BOG doesn’t need to approve them.
It will be 3 series; B2Bs against 3 opponents. Approval is likely a rubber stamp.
The Roadrunners are staying in Tucson.”

“Because this new deal adds 1 more out-of-town home game than the original agreement, the Tucson mayor/city council must approve/amend the deal on June 4, which is expected to happen.
Roadrunners also offered to add another year to the remaining agreement, which expires in 2026.”

Is the only connection to Utah allowing them a say in the matter the fact that the Roadrunners are still the AHL affiliate for their “new” team in SLC?
If so, then I get why Utah might feel like they get to chime in. But on the other hand, we’re talking Tempe or Tucson in relation to SLC, so…seems like they’re butting in to butt in, even if that’s the case. The difference between the AHL affiliate to SLC being in Tucson or Tempe is clearly negligible at best.
