BK & Ferrario – May 28th, 2024

it’s an RBI Triple A Cardinal rally with two outs in the eighth inning they lead it 7 to foury Deals morale with a bouncing ball to Second and Gorman is there to tag the bag and finish it off and end the Cubs threat Hesley hangs on for the save and the first meeting of the Year between the rivals was a fun one 7 to6 St Louis just a conviction in our guys to turn this thing around and uh do it well and to be able to do it at home in front of a house today was was pretty nice all aboard the Cardinals train ladies and gentlemen we are officially here we have arrived you guys knew it was coming come on let’s be honest you knew it was happening I really can’t believe you wore that hat today we are conductors on this train all aboard the Cardinals have won 10 of 13 yeah yesterday they lost I don’t care about that the order of operations is not important here they won the games that I asked them to win yeah said three out of four they only played three of them and so they get to go two in one and now we’ve got the Cardinals back on track technically though they didn’t win 304 with Alex ferrario and Tanner Hendrickson I’m Brandon Kylie you’ve got BK and ferrario here on 101 ESPN Alex how you feeling how you feeling buddy are you ready to jump on board cuz we are all aboard this hype train ladies and gentlemen man if you would have asked me that Sunday night after they won that game I would have been toot tooting my horn with you all the way man but then I had to I had to watch one more day and that one more day who’ they play the Cincinnati Reds and you’re not actually in if bat did it for you you’re not actually in no I’m not and I could be honest about that I want to be I I want to believe everything’s clicking right now Goldie starting to hit you got the complimentary pieces that are coming through I credit this to getting into a cold pool I don’t want to put the nether regions in yet because I don’t want to get I don’t want to I want to get frostbite you know what I want though I want to put my feet in I want to put my feet in I want to dangle the legs in the pool and feel what it’s feels like and then once everyone else starts splashing around and cannonballing off of the div by me though I’m still adjusting you still adjusting too I’m just saying when everybody jumps in then I’m going to get jealous and I’m going to want to dive in but right now my feet are in the pool that Hat’s making me want to get out though and go inside put clothes on so you can take that damn hat off right now we’re wearing it for the open I want to go back home here’s the thing and why I’m so skeptical I just feel like I’m going to get burned again and maybe sometimes you just got to put your heart back out there BK but it hurts when you get hurt and frankly this team I could absolutely seeing drop two of three against Cincinnati and then being like that’s kind of how I feel you know I tweeted out yesterday at your gold East home run I think I’m back and then they lost three to one so TKO I I do feel like I’m gonna get hurt again I’m willing to say I’m kind of with Alex I’m kind of in the water I’m still I’m you guys aren’t in you guys aren’t in I can feel it I I need to feel away I need to really feel the excitement here otherwise I’m not letting you on board we’ve got the train we’re getting ready to roll and I’m trying to see are you guys on or not feel like I’m watching halfway on you can’t be the cop that got on Scotty sheffler’s car and ride off to the side you got to get in the car or you got to get out I’m giving you an opportunity we’re about to take off I’m giving you your chance right now to hop aboard hop aboard the Cardinals train 10 out of 13 playing good baseball you look up and down this lineup in this 13 game stretch Mason wi Alec burles and Lars nupar all ops’s over a thousand what about arado Nolan Gorman the other Nolan Paul goldm Ops is right around 975 Brendan Donovan 25% above League average don’t ask about Nolan ronado not important we’ll get there later on today the other seven regulars in your lineup though are above League average offensively most of them well above League average offensively right now this is the way they were supposed to win Alex it was supposed to look like this you weren’t supposed to be a dominant rotation you weren’t supposed to be a team that goes out there and gets a three er out of your out of your Bullpen over the course of a season you were supposed to have three guys that you trusted at the back end of the pin starters that get deep into games and a lineup That Bops and what are we seeing right now all of those things don’t ask about the errors it’s G to be fine don’t ask about Nolan arado he’s gon to be fine this team is starting to look like the group that we expected by the way I’m not celebrating this but the national league is also starting to open up a bit see the injuries that are taking place around the Cardinals see the lack of teams that are really taking off in this division Cardinals as of today Alex game and a half back of the third wild card spot you know how many teams are in front of them that are between that third wild card spot and the Cardinals one just one the team that you beat back to back over the weekend with the Chicago CBS Cardinals are back baby we are back we are back we are back I mean I can’t deny what he’s saying like everything is actually hitting and like well not arado well that’s true he’s the only one that’s not hitting and he’s getting angry about it but it’s okay buddy you’ll get through but everything’s clicking to what I’ve been saying I need to see I’m seeing the offense you said you needed to see bie T-Bone that happened all of the complimentary pieces now is your Bullpen going to get fried by the end of the season probably is your rotation going to hold up probably not but for what it is right now it’s hard for me to say I can’t get on board but yesterday happened and what this feels a lot like the CU I know you said the Orioles felt like the Dodgers series last year that Cubs felt like it was the Dodgers series last year where it was like there’s no way you can win I didn’t believe it because it’s an NL Central team and the Cardinal suck against the NL Central and they did it they beat him why I’m so skeptical of this train and the moment moment I jump on this Caboose it’s going to become attached or detached to it and I’m going to sail off into the sunset and crash no man you’re good as I’m worried about this series we’re all safe on this train was this serious was this consistent or was that just the the hot streak and then it all comes crashing down so my thing is like I’m well aware that I’m probably going to get hurt but I’m ready to emotionally invest in this team how I feel about it I understand this is let’s be totally honest here nobody else is listening just three of us in this room turned the mics off yeah you’re good this team is not very good yeah I know they’re not a great baseball team the Run differential is minus 43 but I do think they’re good enough to potentially make a run for a playoff spot in this version of the National League I don’t think the national League’s very good this year guys I think there’s three really good teams and one of them being the Braves they’re without their best player and their without their best pitcher and oh by the way most of their guys that you were like their household names they’re not hitting so far this year for the most part so I I just I look around the national league and I say to myself who am I supposed to be like who’s the Boogeyman in this Division I don’t think there is one the Cubs aren’t that I don’t think the Brewers are that bre now the Brewers have kicked your ass all year long up and down the field totally understand that they’ve been the better team than you all season long I I still I still think they’re probably going to be better than you but can the Cardinals get one of those Wild Card spots behind them I I think yes because I just have not been impressed by the other teams that are battling for those spots that are in this league right now I think the American League is much better than the National League this year might I’d 100% agree with that I I’m kind of with you like look that the NL is wide open it feels a lot like currently at least what it did in 2021 we like we were watching that Cardinal team before they went on that historic winning streak we were like H this is not very good but hey they’re kind of in it still and then they snuck their way in by getting really hot down the stretch in September that’s what the NL feels like to me this year granted there’s a third wild card not two but I the reason that I am still a little skeptical of this team is because they don’t have arado hitting I said it had to be Goldie arado hitting and they’ve got one of them going the other one looks as loss as he’s been all season long and they had to bump him down to the five spot but look I I can’t deny what they’re getting they’re getting good pitching performances the defense is making them work a little bit more than they should but they’re getting good pitching performances where I skeptical is all of a sudden based on what I know about the Cardinals the last two years this feels like the road trip that’s going to be the one that sinks them you know it’s a tough road trip you’re in Cincinnati which look I don’t think the reds are very good but pitching at Great American Ballpark is like pitching in corfield because of how small it is and you saw that a little bit yesterday and then you go to Philadelphia who’s really good and then you go to Houston who’s a pretty solid team as well that’s playing pretty good baseball right now they want me to buy in 100% where I’m swimming in the pool with BK’s conductor hat on is I’ve got to see them play well on this road trip because this feels like the one where it is okay you built this momentum at home and I’m not going to deny that you kicked the crap out of some pretty good teams in that stretch you got to continue to sustain momentum once you get on that plane and go on these road trips because that’s where I’ve become skeptical of this team because I saw the first half of what their season’s looked like so far and they were awful they were awful offensively which has improved but they don’t feel like a good baseball team you want me to buy in I got to see it on this road trip I think if I’m ready to buy in I I need the I need the front office to buy into the team so I want to get to that on the other side because that might be what’s holding me off still with this team 314 399 9646 is the a Comfort Service Dex line to get involved in the show I want to hear from you guys today the mic drop features on the 101 ESPN app where you at with the Cardinals you believeing in this you ready to jump back on board because I know for most of us hell I was on this earlier in the season what as recently as two and a half weeks ago like literally 17 days ago we all declared the Cardinals dead there was no coming back it was a bad team and A bad year it was going to be the start of was real significant changes within the organization that’s how we felt as recently as a couple of weeks ago so they have changed the course of their season very quickly it was like when they you have a train Alex and you’re going on one set of tracks and then they switch it over to another that’s essentially what the Cardinals have done over the last two weeks they’ve gotten on a new set of tracks and it’s working out much better for them I get it if you’re hesitant to jump on board though we saw early on last season there was a brief stretch similar to this one where they played well and it came to a crescendo against the Dodgers this year that Crescendo very well may have been Saturday night against the Cubs I I think their best win of the Season thus far was Saturday night against the Cubs so if you’re hesitant to jump on board because noan AR out is still not play still not hitting well uh because you’re seeing so many guys around him though hitting well and that’s likely to regress they’re not going to hit like this the entirety of the season because you still don’t have a fifth starter because they are overworking the back three guys in the bullpen and none of this feel sustainable again I get it but at this point dude there’s no reason for me to hold back because they have done exactly what I’ve asked of them and they’ve shown me enough to believe that they can get right back into this thing and in fact they have been able to get right back into this thing do the Cardinals believe that we want to talk about that coming up on the other side because I believe this is a team worth investing in not going all in for but investing in and there’s one way they can do it we’ll talk about it next you’re on 101 ESPN e e e e e e e e it’s not easy but we don’t have a fifth starter so if that’s the case you if you can win a game then you win a game and then you figure out what it looks like for that spot start that was Oli marmal on Sunday talking about how difficult it is to navigate as a manager wi you have Matthew Liberator and Andre Palante both of whom could be used over the next couple of days Libby was yesterday out of the bullpen but also are considered to be options for the start on Wednesday Alex the Cardinals have made it very clear they don’t have a fifth starter right now I don’t know how that happens considering it’s been a month since Stephen matz went down with his injury but the Cardinals do not have a fifth starter currently that they can trust to go out there and you know give them five innings five innings three earned runs what this team would give right now for a performance like that repeatedly out of their number five starter Unfortunately they don’t have it Alex I think this team is worth investing in I think if you are John moso you are doing yourself a dis service right now by not going out and finding somebody available on the market that can give you something similar to what I just said now if you could go get something better than that if if you could go get Jesus Lardo well yeah go make that deal it’s easier said than done though you got to give up a lot to be able to go acquire Jesus luzardo you got to give up players that are currently probably on your major league roster that are helping you win right now so that becomes a very difficult deal to try to accomplish but why not go out there and sign Brad Keller who was available and you could have had him on the market for free essentially just give him a veteran minimum deal I don’t understand it I will not understand it it makes no sense to me now that you have allowed that option to go out the door though go make a trade Mo went on the Cardinal radio network on Sunday and basically said hey we’re looking we’re we’re out there we understand we do not have a fifth starter right now we need to be looking at trades we need to look at the waiver wire we need to find something that can insulate us a bit internally so far they haven’t done that and so tomorrow the expectation is that Andre Palante is going to make a start despite him having like a two whip two walks and hits per inning in triaa a guy that has not thrown more than 85 innings in any individual start in triaa and we know he’s probably going to have more high stress Innings up here than he did down there it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me where do you stand on this do you believe that this team is worth investing in right now I do and I think this is part of the reason from our previous segment why I’m not willing to get on board it’s very evident that I may believe that the Cardinals have figured things out they don’t believe that they figured things out because if they did they wouldn’t be doing this let’s go use Andre Palante to start or we going to go back to Matthew Liberator it’s pretty evident that now that your offense is is coming through for you your pitching is starting to scuffle and a lot of this is because you’re doing this revolving door of guys that are inept to be number five starters for you and we’ve talked about Brad Keller who was basically sitting there for you for free and you didn’t choose to go after that there are pitchers that are available via free agency if you feel like they can come in but to sit there and say like oh we’re exploring the trademark guys there’s two teams right now that have 19 wins on the season that basically are saying yeah we’re not any good Colorado and Miami they got to have a pitcher somewhere that you can find and Target and make a trade is it going to cost you absolutely but guess what if you feel like this team has figured it out and now has won what is it five straight series four straight series and put yourself one and a half games out of a wild card spot and you’re kind of chasing the Milwaukee Brewers still and you’re not going to make a move you’re going to keep riding this train that’s why I look at it and say man if the Cardinals front office aren’t willing to invest in this team why should I be willing to say oh yeah I’m all the way back on board because we’re going to get to the trade deadline and they’re going to look at it and say oh we’re getting stepen match back and think that’s just as good as a trade that’s probably the biggest reason why I’m so hesitant jump back on board yeah they they’ve got to swing a trade because they they can’t continue to operate with a fourman rotation and and I think this team’s worth investing in because it I’m not sure they’re worth pushing chips closer towards the middle of the board and being Allin where you go and try and get that number two try and get a Jesus lazardo I just don’t know if that guy makes sense for him yet but you know how you get closer to that step you do a little bit of investment you put in a little bit here and try and get that number five starter and not getting Brad Keller when you clearly have a need is it’s almost a smack in the face I I don’t understand what they were looking at that they said yeah this guy is built up could be a perfect number five starter for us and we only need him for whatever till mattch comes back then we can try and swing a deal at the deadline or Hell swing another deal before that point as well but just get somebody in here that can be a reliable bad number five starter and they didn’t do it I they didn’t invest in the team and that was the easy one you know now you got to go to the trade route which is a little harder because now you’ve got to get someone to be willing to part with something and those teams that are bad they’re bad for reason they don’t have pitching so I I don’t understand what the front office was looking at to where they didn’t end up swinging a trade or signing a brad Keller but they’ve got to do something because this team is at least worth investing in a number five starter that’s my thing I if you don’t think that they are worth investing in from a number two starter perspective right now I get that I could listen to it but you got to give yourself a chance like let’s at least give them the benefit of time and what you do whenever you make this kind of a move by going out and acquiring a number five starter this early in the season or just somebody that slots into your starting five it’d be great if they could get a number three a number four just somebody that’s a little better than your traditional number five but at this point Beggars can’t be choosers and you are a beggar you need to go out there and acquire something that improves what you currently have as your option you’re number five starters this year and Stephen mats and Matthew Liberator have started nine games for you the Cardinals are three and six when those guys take them out and it’s honestly a it’s a shock and a minor miracle that they are three and six on the season because when those guys take the mound your average start goes about four Innings it gives up about 6.7 ER and you’re giving up roughly two walks and hits per Innings pitched you’re basically forfeiting a game every time they start and yet somehow Again by the grace of God you are three and six you have won three of those nine starts so far this year one of them was with Matthew Liberator on the mound whenever you won 10 to five with him out there another one he scored nine runs with Steven matz on the mound there was one other game where Matts was actually pretty decent and I think you won that one like 3 to2 but otherwise you’re you’re getting nothing out of your number five starter right now it’s putting so much stress on that Bullpen that has been good for the vast majority of the Season you’ve got to give them the benefit of time if you the president of baseball operations and you asked your team hey go show me that this is a team that is worth investing in something that Army talks about all the time Alex our team will make the decision on whether or not I invest at the deadline well your team John mosu has showed you they’re worth giving them a chance giving them a fighting opportunity and your job is now to go scour the market to find somebody that can help them to find somebody that can stop the bleeding and just go out and give them you know four and a3d that’s less than 6.7 if you can find that guy you have vastly improved your current situation for a number five starter so I that’s what I’m asking him to do that I don’t think that is a really high bar for them to be able to clear but it’s something they need to go out and accomplish if they believe at all that this team can keep this thing on the rails because if they believe that you got to give them the chance and it’s it doesn’t cost a lot that’s the other thing is like it’s not like we’re saying the Lardo one you’re right would cost you a Gorman it would cost you some of your higher prospects maybe s JC even maybe one of your top pitching prospects the guys that we’re talking about acquiring are like John ler and Jay hap from when they acquired WCC I think they got for like cash literally but like the the next version he could probably still go five um but John Lester they got for Lane Thomas I don’t remember what they traded for jhap that’s how much they how little they gave John Gant deal yeah was joh G like a lottery ticket didn’t he just walk across the field yeah and Gant then end up playing in Japan two years or a year later so you’re not giving up a ton of assets for that now some would say Well Lane Thomas was some one they gave away now look Lane Thomas is still a platoon bat if you had to give up a platoon bat like a Dylan Carlson say that wouldn’t be a lot to give up to go out there and get someone that can come in and be a serviceable number five starter to give them a chance on those days cuz they cannot keep praying for r and hoping that it gets rained out when it’s time for the fifth starter that’s not going to happen it’s just so hard for me to believe that this team is is on the right track when they’re not willing to look at a team that is finding success and saying we need to invest in this we need to capitalize on what we are accomplishing right now and instead they’re looking at it and saying well they’re finding ways to get through it it’s just one start we’ll figure it out and win the series beyond that when you’re not only hurting your team in that start but you’re jeopardizing your Bullpen with the Matthew Liberator signing and frankly it’s a confidence kill knowing that every game you’re going into as an offense we’re going to have to go out there and score 8 nine 10 runs it’s a lot like what you did last year and you keep running it out there for one start I also just think it’s unfair it’s unfair to the guys like Andre Palante and Matthew Liberator think about how difficult it is to go out there every day not knowing if you’re going to pitch and also preparing for the likelihood the possibility that you’re going to start on that next Wednesday so for example yesterday wasn’t a great outing wasn’t a great showing by Matthew Liberator well how could it have been like how could you possibly be fully prepared for that opportunity when you also thought in the back of your mind as recently as probably yesterday morning I might be starting two days later so your body is trying to prepare itself for a Wednesday start and then boom before the game you’re like hey we probably are going to go to you today if there’s a situation that arises where we’re up or down by a run or two we’re going to probably need you because our big three is down for today Libby you good with that it’s like yeah I mean I’ll I’ll take the ball I don’t know how my body’s going to respond because I’ve been thrown all over the place wildly so far this year and this is a guy that needs a defined rule I think we’ve seen at this point he needs to be in a bullpen situation where he knows okay this is when I’m getting the ball this is when my opportunities are going to arise just use him in the best way possible this year to at least extract some value from a guy that has shown no ability thus far maybe he will later on to be a major league starter Andre Palante is not a starter guys I don’t know if he’s going to be eventually but he’s not right now and he’s probably not going to be maybe he can be a spot starter down the road but he’s not a guy they’re they’ve got a month left before they expect Steven matz to return are we gonna go a month with Andre Palante and then potentially Matthew Liberator or maybe Zack Thompson down thead like we really going to do this for the next month while your team is trying to compete to get back into this playoff mix they they just can’t do that they they can’t do that if this if this is a one day thing where Wednesday they need Palante go out there and they’re like okay we get it we can’t do this anymore fine but you got to make a move sooner rather than later it is time to invest in this uh in this team all right Alex one question for you before we get out of here want to talk a little hockey on the other side you have any concern about the big three right now over the weekend against Chicago your big three went six Innings and when I’m saying big three JoJo Romero Andrew kit Ridge Ryan Hesley six Innings gave up 15 hits six runs five of which were earned couple of walks four strikeouts and it looked like there were the Cubs had something on Ryan Helly’s fast ball I don’t know if he’s tipping pitches to the extent that all teams will have that but he they were clearly sitting Dead red and by Sunday he was like not throwing the fast ball at all how concerned are you about those that big three that you’ve been able to construct so far this year bending I’d put it at like a three or a four I mean there’s a little concern because of of how much you’ve relied on them and you really don’t have backup options to limit I mean we know with JoJo the dude has been used so much there’s a little concern that throughout the season they’re going to be able to maintain that dominance that they had in the first month and a half but I’m not there yet off of one series one series is a thing and I did think that they all pitched well like you mentioned Hy was a little bit of tipping pitches I thought kitridge just got unlucky in certain situations but I’m a little like I’m keeping my eyes on it but but it’s not to the point where I’m like oh you’re screwed yeah that’s where I’m I’m like at a three I I’m not overly concerned if this happens again on this road trip in Cincinnati and he seed against Philadelphia then we can talk but right now I’m not concerned something with Hy they can kind of work on that the home run that K gave up was a good pitch that ha just drilled into the bullpen I’m not overly concerned now with that being said they could really use someone stepping up to be that fourth guy right now that’s what the kingdom Middleton signing was was hey let’s have a big four along with Gio if he bounced back which he didn’t could be a part of that yeah maybe it’s Liberator maybe it’s Fernandez right now like somebody does need to step up to help alleviate some of the pressure of instead of always having to go to those three maybe when one of them’s down you can turn to somebody but I I’m not overly concerned about those guys all right I’m at like a a three as well but if it continue I think it’s worth it’s worth monitoring right now to see okay is this is this a sign of over usage I I’ve liked the way that all’s used them I’m not criticizing the manager like if you’ve got a chance to win games right now you got to go to your big dudes you have to and he’s doing it even when it’s a tie game like they’ll be down by a run and he’s trying to keep it close or he’s like hey Jojo go ahead and get out there so that way you can get these lefties out that are getting ready he didn’t do that the last two years cuz I was critical of that the last two years to where I would say hey that is a high leverage spot that should be the high leverage arm and he wouldn’t do it but this year he has been I like the way he’s utilizing him and this is not a criticism of OE it’s just the reality of when you are playing so many tight games right now and you have three guys that you really trust at at the back end of your pen because you’ve had to utilize some other guys uh in other ways like you’ve had to go to them on a you know Bullpen day um it makes things really difficult to manage accordingly uh I’d say it’s about a three right now but if that continues if we start seeing more of that because of the usage they wear down a bit and you don’t see the same stuff coming from them um it’s something worth monitoring at least all right 34399 9646 is the Air Comfort Service taxt line to get involved in the show we’ll get to we drive are you kidding me complete BS we’re building this team around Brady kachuck his leadership and unique skill set are rare there’s absolutely no validity to it end quote that is what the uh senior VP of hockey operations out in Ottawa had to say about the rumors that Brady kachuck could be be made available this offseason that’s courtesy of Pier LeBron over at the athletic with Alex ferrario and Tanner Hendrickson I’m Brandon KY Alex it always felt like a bit of a pipe dream that Brady kachuck could be made available this offseason I’m not ready to say fully that Brady kachuk doesn’t want to be traded I do think that Ottawa doesn’t want to trade him though and this comes back to what I’ve said a number of times about I think teams are just honestly too soft when it comes to playing hard ball with their Superstar players hey Brady you signed a long-term deal to be in Ottawa if you want out you shouldn’t have signed the long-term deal I felt this way about Nolan arado hey if if you didn’t want to be here cool you were the one that signed for $200 million you signed to that bottom line he sure seemed okay with it at the time now I’m not blaming Brady kachuck he wants the money go get it it’s guaranteed whatever and you could potentially force your way out afterwards but Alex this seems to be a case where regardless of what the player wants what his ultimate goals are the team doesn’t seem to want to part with him so it it feels like this is probably the end of us talking about Brady kachuck this offseason or at least it should be it should be I I mean if the GM’s not willing to move the player the player can say as much as he wants I want out but it doesn’t matter and let’s be real about this the whole reason Brady kachuck is even being brought up is because of spit and chicklets Ryan Whitney put it out there and then I think the the spit and chicklets put it out there again that Brady could chuck once out and basically saying like oh he could go to New Jersey because uh Tom Fitzgerald’s the GM there and he’s good friends with Keith kachuck like we’re connecting all of these dots and none of them makes sense let’s just be very Frank about it if Brady kachuck is going anywhere it’s not happening this year because the GM is basically said yeah not happening so it feels like that trade proposal is dead so anytime you see somebody bring up the Brady kachuck wants out fine he can want out as much as he wants but the GM is going to be the one that has to decide to do it and frankly Brady kachuck has zero leverage yeah well not until next year next year is when he starts getting leverage because he has a no move Clause that kicks in next offseason and once you get the no move Clause he gets to decide like if they did for whatever reason wants to trade him in the future now he gets to decide where he goes which means that he has the team is not going to be able to extract the same value because you have fewer biders that are available all those different things and that’s what Matthew kachuck had and Steve stos the GM there is not the one that signed Brady kachuck so I would imagine he’s going to try and build this around him and if it doesn’t look good this year then you try and make some types of changes going I would say brady going into your final year of your deal that’s when we’ll consider trading you but for the next three years you’re an Ottawa Senator right so just get used to being here get comfortable with it you’re here for a reason we’re trying to build around you yes you’re it’s going to take a little while it takes a while to build a contender in the NHL it’s taken them like 20 years but some are harder than others hopefully they are able to get this thing back on track and if they are then you’re going to be a big part of how that ends up working out there all right so the other part of this piece Alex over on the athletic that I did find to be interesting uh was about the player that I think is much more likely to be dealt this offseason and that is the player from Carolina Martin NIS who is heading into an RFA off season and Alex it sure seems like he wants out yeah he wants out the team has shown a willingness in the past to trade guys going into their walk years and pieter LeBron wrote The Following quote Carolina would want a star caliber player back in any package for Martin NIS that’s where the fit gets tricky having said that all things being equal my money is on NES likely moving this summer end quote Alex the blues do have a star player that could be made available this off season uh in the form of Pavo bvic do you think Martin NIS is the type of guy that the blues could Target this offseason I think that’s the exact type of player you’re targeting a 25-year-old forward who’s got Top Line top six potential if not even potential he’s shown it he’s an RFA I don’t think he’s going to cost you more than $8 million because he’s 25 years old that’s the type of player and the piece that Pier LeBron put out there the rumors started with nus when the Vancouver Canucks couldn’t get the deal done with Elias Pon and it was hey we’re going to trade Pon because we can’t get him let’s get something back in return so if you as the blues feel like you can’t get Pavo nvit to the contract you’re hoping for that’s exactly the type of player you trade for because he’s younger he’s going to be in the same time frame as these players and he don’t really miss a step in terms of the offensive ability now defensively you take a massive step back because nus is not good defensively B is very good defensively but can you fill that void in other areas maybe down the road this season probably doesn’t look the same so but he’s 25 one concern that I do have with Martin hes it’s really hard to be a negative player on the Carolina Hurricanes and he found a way to do it he was a minus n this year on the ice with the Hurricanes I also just generally speaking I’ve talked to you about this before Alex I get worried when you’re trading with Carolina for a player that fits so perfectly into their system right because Carolina has guys that play there have a ton of success go elsewhere and don’t find that same success because like everything just fits in seamlessly with Rod brandom Mo system it feels like they’re always on you they are always in the offensive zone and when you have that many opportunities especially as an offensive player like Martin NIS you’re going to finish the year with more goals than you would if you went elsewhere so is he going to be a 25 goal scorer here in St Louis I don’t know he’s not the greatest distributor he’s fine he’s good but he’s not the greatest distributor is he going to be more of a 20 goal score 50o producer here and if so are are you gonna are you gonna pay him for what he did or are you gonna pay him for what he’s going to do that always makes me a little bit nervous he is Young he’s a good player he can play center this could be a situation where he plays center for a little while until dorsk is ready to go and then eventually kick him over to the wing again I I think there’s a lot of value there I think he fits in with their timeline it just would make me really nervous yeah I mean and I understand that because you’re losing a rod brandamore type of player if Rod brenor doesn’t want him what other coach wants him but sometimes like we always talk about sometimes guys need change of sceneries and maybe Martin NIS just hasn’t been working out at least this season he has I mean he was a guy that puts up 25 points regular 25 goals regularly two years ago he was awesome for him this year he took a step back but also remember what took place this year Carolina went out there and added more offense and that knocks a guy down doesn’t that make you a little nervous though that they they upgraded from Martin NIS I know he’s young so that’s part of the conversation there but but it it also feels like Carolina is so desperate to try and win a cup that they’re adding as much pieces as possible and if you’re a guy who feels like you’re a Topline player and you get pushed down because another team doesn’t feel like you’re there you lose a step a little bit so it’s a tough situation no matter what but the only reason I would say I’m going to take the risk on it is because if I can’t get Bo locked up into the contract that I need my next best scenario is finding a younger forward that I can still work with with my team does it make you nervous that he basically profiles to be lesser version of Jordan Kyra he’s incredibly fast he’s very skilled he is not physical he doesn’t get super involved in the four check he’s very much a rush oriented player and he doesn’t play defense and he by the way has not had a ton of success on the power play y so all of those things that I just mentioned if I just said who am I talking about you guys would say Jordan Kyu I’m not talking about Jordan Kyu I’m talking about Martin NIS does that make you nervous that you now have two of those guys in your top six and we’ve already been complaining about the one that you have yeah it absolutely makes me nervous but I think this is the position you’re you’re in right now to where you need to find guys that have high upside that can click with your team and there’s not a lot of 25-year-old 25 to 30 goal scorers that are just sitting around in the market and and especially the ability to trade a 30-year-old who’s not going to be on my team in a year he’s Alex that’s Tbone I’m BK 314 399 9646 is the year Comfort Service text line the YouTube chat is off and running the graveyard as they are affectionately called youtube.com sl101 ESPN STL coming up next we’re going to get into some questions and answers including you willing to do this a deal deal that was just proposed over on the athletic for Mitch Marner to make his way to the good old St Louis area we’ll talk about it next you’re on 101 ESPN e e e e e e e e e 3143 99 9646 is the Air Comfort Service text line uh for questions and answers we’ll get to Paul goldmit finally showing some signs of life here in just a little bit want to hear from you guys via the mic drop feature throughout the day today are you ready to jump on board I am officially the conductor of the St Louis Cardinal hype train put it back on we’re ready to go feeling good about it Cardinals did exactly what I asked them to over the weekend feeling good let’s get to questions though Alex let’s start with this this comes from uh over at the athletic the Toronto Maple Leafs beat writer was asked a series of questions about who says no essentially right MH oh those are always good Marner nce W okay I’m not even going to read you the whole thing essentially a reader sent in a bunch of names load of names hey what if we just swapped teams you think Toronto and the blues would be willing to do that he was like no probably not but what might work is is if the blues ended up offering Jordan Bennington and the Maple Leafs offered Mitch Marner and Matthew nice and maybe you got something like Colton Paro going to Toronto as well so Bennington and Paro for Marner and Matthew n Alex say that’s something you would listen to if you were the blues you have now removed your number one defenseman and your number one goalie and added two Wingers so I’m not listening paro’s a part of that package if you can convince them to do a Justin Faulk now you’re not getting nice well then I’m not making the deal cool but if we can convince them that hey Justin Faulk and Jordan Bennington for Matthew n and Mitch Marner then guess what boys CH I’m All Aboard that train you get Matthew n the Winger that played with Jimmy snuggerud and you get Mitch Marner look I love me Jordan Bennington I would not trade him for a hell of a lot that’s around in the NHL but I get a 22-year-old Winger that’s already been playing top six minutes with Maple Leafs and I get Mitch Marner and I get rid of Justin folk $6 and a half million doll contract oh yeah CH sure I’m on board with that one yeah hat to be the bar be bad news they’re not doing that and that’s why the Hat just came off because I ain’t making the trade then it’s all about making your team better and if I get NIS and Marner without getting rid of both my number one goalie and number one defenseman my team’s better ah sure hell I’ll do it I mean B’s probably not going to be here when they’re really competing again anyways or he’s goingon to be at the back into that contract so why not why not try and accelerate the retool I’m in I’m not doing it if it includes Paro Paro is my breaking point of like I’m I’m out um and the reason why is because I think you just become a lesser version of Toronto at that point you’ve got all the Wingers in the world you’ve got all this speed this Flash and Dash but I have no substance I have no goalie I have no number one defensemen now I don’t have either of my top two defenseman that I need for a championship caliber team where am I acquiring that how do I go out and get that so now my team is just scoring a bunch of goals hopefully fingers crossed they’re not scoring does end up going into slumps and I’m not stopping anything I’ve become a lesser version of Colorado or Edmonton or Toronto I don’t want to be that so um this is fun it’s an exciting type of a deal but it’s not something that I would be particularly interested in all right 314 399 9646 is the air cover for service taxt line for questions and answers uh from the 314 guys after losing three in a row and before the May 11th win CSC hasn’t won since March 2nd should we look at last season as a one-off for City SCC and as an outlier based on the excitement and buildup for the new team I would say no I I don’t think last season was an outlier I I think the problem this year was I I just don’t think they’ve been able to play as themselves because Len’s missed some time I think Len I think what we’ve seen is he’s their most important player yeah it’s not CL than bery it’s not a Dinan honestly it’s not really bery because berky gets kind of hung out to dry still and now he’s just not making those saves I think bery allows you to be competitive I think Len allows you to be good I’d agree with that I I think that’s the biggest reason is he just has been playing a lot so now that he is kind of building back up and I think he played most of the second half if not the entire second half uh this past weekend um I I think you’re going to start to see stries now with that being said I don’t know how good they actually are this year like I think they’re a borderline playoff team and I mean borderline the underlying numbers last I checked were pretty good um but they weren’t getting the results and this is what we talked about what a week or two ago at some point you need to get results like it’s great Alec Burleson last year it’s great that you have all of these underlying numbers that suggests down the road you’re going to be good and eventually there’s going to be some positive regression for you but ultimately you’re judged on wins and losses and I can’t go to my boss and say hey look at all of these great things we’re doing yeah don’t look at the fact that we’re 27th in the rating system just look at all of these good things that we’re doing eventually it’s going to pay off no if we don’t get results we the bottom line is what matters and I think that’s kind of how I feel about City right now they they’re not they’re not getting the results so does does it feel like a one-off right now yeah they’ve they’ve won three games so far this year that’s not great it’s not a good feeling but I I think when you get Len back to 100% They just added in another Striker he’s he’s expected to be in by I think July is what I saw earlier today that’s wild you’re like a month away from him potentially being a part of your team hopefully things start to come together and then in the second half you could be what Sporting KC was last year Sporting KC was very similar to this and then they beat you in the playoffs after going off on a late season surge maybe you can be that version um of a team this year all right 314 39996 46 is the Air Comfort Service text line for questions and answers from the 314 guys I think Minnesota will get a win but ultimately lose this final Tatum and Brown versus Kyrie and Luca could be an alltime type of matchup what is your anticipation for it Stephen I know you’re super excited to see the Celtics and in the NBA Finals after you can’t you can’t complain your team had three chances to win a game and they blew every single one of them I know relax terrible I made going down was the end of that I made so many bets for the Pacers because I’m like oh they can’t get swept they did they did I don’t think the Mavs are going to hold up very well against them I think it’s probably going to be Celtics in five or six yeah H uh I don’t feel that way I think the Celtics have had an alltime easy path to the NBA finals they did not look good in three of their four wins against Indie they just turned it on in the fourth quarter if if they didn’t have as many injuries in the Eastern Conference as there were I’m not sure what we’d be looking at here like they didn’t get a full version of the Miami Heat Cleveland’s a solid team but not spectacular they’re not ready to go on a significant run and then the Pacers were a shell of themselves and they don’t play any defense to begin with I think this could be a Ser I think Dallas might win the finals this year well and and to be hon about it like I would be picking Dallas in the finals let me put it that way not I’m not not to be wishy-washy I think Dallas is the better team I think they will win the NBA Finals Boston won if they’re healthy Boston won that series because Indie just turned into a complete collapse in the fourth quarter they were turning the ball over left and right Boston was doing the exact same thing and he just never turned it on so happening against Dallas L is not going to be throwing the ball way that the way that ant was Kyrie’s not going to be missing shots the way like it’s just yeah different situation Boston’s going to treat fourth quarter like they did against Indie they’re done in five games Celtics in six okay you went from five to six suddenly I said five or six I’ll go six that’s fair I’ve got I I think I will go with Dallas and seven I think it’s gonna be a really tight series I think it’s going to be a lot of fun but Dallas and I don’t know why but I just don’t Dall Boston in game seven Kyrie hitting a game-winning shot would be chef’s kiss by the way credit Kyrie Irving finally figured out I’m just I’m a robin I’m a number number two I need to go somewhere that it’s somebody else’s team yeah it took him seven years to figure that out post LeBron era but still thinks the Earth is flat once he learned that I just need a to be a guy that takes over when the guy gets tired he figured out what his role is in the NBA and he’s an all-time great number two player but he just took him a long time to get there all right coming up next Paul goldmit finally showing some signs of life you guys believe in it we’ll talk about it next year on 101 ESPN e e e e e e e and goldi gets into one forget it goldi third deck here at bus and Goldie’s fifth Homer of the Season puts the birds up to nothing and he do it again this ball ripped to left Goldie is back in a big way tonight second Homer second TW run Homer he’s responsible for all four runs swing and a high fly ball Hammer deep toward left herde be’s back at the wall it’s gone Goldie ambushes in the first inning and the Cardinals take a one- nothing lead uh he gets going that could be really really fun uh big swing from him today again so hopefully we can continue that audio courtesy of ESPN and B Sports Midwest some really nice swings there by Paul goldmouth three homers over the last two days and we’re starting to see the production show up in a meaningful way Alex in his last 14 games the Cardinals are 10 and four in this stretch he’s batting 295 he’s slugging 600 he’s got an Ops over 900 five home runs three doubles over the course of 162 if he kepts that pace he won’t but if he did it would be 58 home runs and 35 doubles this is the Paul goldi that we were waiting for we’re waiting for him to show some legitimate Signs of Life there wasn’t a whole lot to cling on to there was like a nice five game stretch there at one point in mid April other than that though it was few and far between where he looked good at the plate now we’re finally starting to see it Alex are you believing what we are seeing from Paul Goldman yeah I am because for somebody who’s been in the league that long and I understand age is still a concern when you make that tip that that type of massive switch from how bad he looked to now you’ve gotten redot you figured something out is it going to last at that same level absolutely not but I don’t believe Paul goldshmid is going to fall back into what he was in that first month and a half of the season because he figured it out this is why we always say like yeah back of the baseball card a typically Falls right back to the median of what it was I’m still concerned that age is going to be there for Paul Goldman in the long term but you’re seeing the hot streak now and let’s say he falls back to Earth a little bit in the next few weeks that’s still going to be the type of batter and hitter that the Cardinals need in the middle of their order so I’m believing in what Paul gmid did because it tells me he’s figured something out I I’m believing in what we are seeing but I think what you’re going to see overall is him become like a 10% above League average player and it starts to slowly creep down he was 20% above League average last year now he’s probably more of a 10% above League average guy but I do think he’s figured it out I I don’t think it’s the Jose Bru where he’s hit the curve and all of a sudden it is whoa how do we fix this I think he’s found a way to get by that I just think what we’re now seeing from Paul goldi and you saw some of this last year is his slumps now are going to take a lot longer to get out of it’s no longer the oh you know the two three week typical boom Paul Gman figures it out and he takes off and just goes from there I think what you’re going to see now out of Paul Gman is if he goes back into a slump it’s going to take him a while to get out of it and I I don’t know why the reason of that is I think it’s just age but I do think he has figured out he looks better at the plate he looks more like the Paul Goldman of old that we’ve been used to seeing I’m starting to wonder if he’s selling out for power I think that might be the version of boldie that we get this year because even in what we’ve seen from him recently in this 14 game stretch where I told you that the numbers are good he’s getting hits he’s hitting for average he’s hitting for slug like all of it’s there the expected batting average numbers I’m not going to bore you with any of this stuff but they they suggest he’s been pretty lucky in terms of the actual batting average that he has and most of that is probably because he struck out 22 times in 61 at bats in this stretch he’s still at a 30 plus perc strikeout rate even while he’s performing well is just incredibly difficult to hit the ball well enough on a regular basis to boost up your batting average above 29300 if you’re striking out 30% of the time because now that means like okay 30% of the time you walk to the plate you’re striking out let’s say it’s right now he’s not walking a whole lot he’s got three walks in his last 65 plate appearances but you get another five walks there right okay so there’s not a whole lot of opportunities for me to get a batted ball here much less a hit and a lot of his they’re dropping in for hits right now he’s hitting for a good amount of power you love to see that I I think part of what’s Happening Here is he’s just trying to hit the ball as hard as he possibly can as often as he possibly can and when he’s connected lately it’s gone for extra bases for the most part I guess my question would be is that enough can you sustain what you’re doing right now maybe not obviously like a a 10 and three stretch that’s not going to be who this team is longterm nobody is what can can you be good can you be a team that wins 85 to 90 games this year if Paul gmid is a pure power hitter he finishes hitting like 250 this year and gets to 25 to 30 home runs and Nolan arado is just hitting for average he’s not hitting for a lot of power because he has not shown any ability to do so thus far and he sounds lost with what he said after the game yesterday can this team be good enough with Goldie hitting for power ronado hitting for average and them combining to be a good player but really individually it’s kind of one not is that is that enough for this team it depends on what you’re asking I think it’s enough for them to make the playoffs but they’re going to have to rely on all of these complimentary pieces being more than just accent pieces they’re going to have to be very impactful bats throughout the season like we’ve been seeing in the stretch Donovan Nar burles these guys are going to have to come through on a consistent basis to carry that weight that Nolan Aron is not providing I think it’s enough when you get contris back that’s going to add more pop for you hopefully you figure something out with Jordan Walker I think it’s important to understand what you’re asking with that though because I don’t think there’s anything more I don’t think the ceiling goes any further than you make the playoffs as a wild card team I don’t think you can win a series in the playoffs without both of those guys hitting for power and being really good hitters I I don’t think you can make the playoffs if you if those two combin to be just one good SL great player you got to have three legitimate bats in my opinion to get to the playoffs yeah but even with this National League I still think so I I think somebody’s going to emerge and kind of escape the muddy middle and if so it may not be till the deadline but somebody a couple of teams might go out and try and B Buy and add to their offense problem for the cardal I don’t know where you buy and add to your offense because what they’re going to be looking for would be an impact bat and who are you replacing in this lineup to do that and who are you getting would be my question I just don’t know where you go I think you need to have three impact bats I think contus is definitely one of those I think Goldie can probably get back to being that we’ll see bur be an impact bat not one that I would trust but he can probably he could become it this year but I would not have faith in it until I see it this year and then part of next year if that makes sense what if he’s Matt Adams right because Matt Adams in those early 2010s runs that the Cardinals had I think it’s fair to say he was an impact bat do you guys with that era of baseball he was an impact bat I don’t know if it is anymore I I when I think middle of the order now I think 30 3,500 run power and guy that drives in 100 and Adams never had that he was like a 20 was maybe his high as he ever got to I think when I hear impact bad I’m thinking like T-bone thinking I’m thinking like 30 to 35 home run player like what goldm and ronado have been for the Cardinals it’s it’s a fair point if that is the case though they don’t have a guy like that like you’re 100% correct T-Bone and they’re not trading for a guy like that those guys are expensive those guys are like you got to go get pet Alonzo at the deadline if the Astros don’t end up getting back into this and it feels like they’re going to you got to go get like a Kyle Tucker you got to go get an Alex bregman the Cardinal just aren’t making that move at the trade deadline that’s never the team that they are that’s not how they operate we know that if they’re going to go make a big move quote unquote it’s going to be for like a a slightly better pitcher than what we’re currently expecting this year’s version of Jordan Montgomery that’ll be the kind of quote unquote Big Move that they make I don’t think that they have that in them um I think they kind of need Alec burles to be that impact spat if you need three of them because you can get by with one of gold orado then you got contus hopefully coming back at full health that’s a legitimate question though and then Burleson becoming that third bad it doesn’t matter if it’s burles you need one other one it’s got to be one of those lefties it’s got to be Burleson or Nar or Gorman I don’t think Donovan has the ability to be a big bat he’s a perfect supplementary piece but I don’t think he’s I don’t think he is the type of player that that we’re talking about here and I just don’t know if any of those guys are consistent enough to be that you know Newar he goes through weird stretch it or Walker I guess Walker could become that too technically I’m not going to put walker in this conversation because of what you just said it would be a shot cuz I don’t even think he still has a home run in Triple A so how can I view him as an impact bat if he’s not even hitting for power in the minor leagues his Ops is down below uh 700 at this point yeah so I I don’t think he’s an impact bat and honestly probably should be written off to be in that conversation for at least this year not for his career but at least this year problem is is Gorman’s not consistent enough we talked about this in the office before the show well is Kyle schorer that bat he’s not consistent but I know every year I can pretty much write in pen he’s going to hit me 40 home runs Gorman’s not there yet Gorman I don’t know what his ceiling is I I don’t know if he can be that impact bat Newar again has stretches where he’s not an impact bat and at times he does hit the ball really hard and hits for power and then who is the oh burison I I just don’t know if you can be an impact B if you’re hitting 15 home runs and I don’t even know if he’ll get 15 he could be like a 12 to 15 guy so I think if they’re going to have a successful offense if they’re going to be the team that they would like to be it’s probably in the vein of like the Arizona Diamond Backs from last year you need one star and we’ll see who emerges as being that guy could be Wilson contras by the end of the season again and that can be your version of uh what they had last year with Corbin Carroll and then you just needed a lot of really good hitters like last year Christian Walker 20% above League average catel Marte 25% above League average Gabriel Moreno 5% above League average guel 10% above League average that’s probably the type of offense that we’re talking about here but a better version of that it’s just a lot of dudes that get to the plate when you get into the playoffs you’re like damn all right that just a lot of good hitters maybe nobody that’s excellent but a lot of guys that get to the play and are not easy outs that’s probably their formula but that requires you to really improve this pitching staff it requires you to go out and make a significant move at the deadline for a starter and probably requires necessitates a move right now to get a number five starter to keep you in it the way that the uh Diamondbacks were able to last year coming up next 314 399 9646 is the a comfort service text line for bet it or forget it here on 101 ESPN e e e e e e e 314 399 9646 is the air comfor service X line for bet it or forget it you give us the scenario we will tell you if we are betting it or forgetting it here on 101 ESPN guys better or forget it the Cardinals will have at least two players that finish the season with 25 or more home runs at least two guys 25 plus home runs this season better to forget it right now Goldie has seven Gorman has eight contras is third on the team with six but of course he’s not expected back for a while L Nar and Alec buris in tied for four with five home runs I’m going to say forget it I think you could get one there I don’t think you’re going to have two there fully expect Gorman to get there he’s at eight he’s on Pace for 25 30 yeah I whether it’s gorin gorin goes through those cold spells too where he disappears for a while so whether it’s gorin or Goldie one of them will get there I think if conteras wasn’t out this long he would be there but because he’s going to be getting back what did he say like mid June I I it’s going to take a month for him to get his strength back so yeah I’m going to forget this I think it’ll be like July yeah at the earliest I I think I will forget it too I think you’ll see Gorman get there maybe Goldie but contrerus was the one outside that I just don’t know if you see enough power on this team to get to that point I’m gonna say bet just because I think Goldie if my hypothesis is correct away put that baby on there we go there we go well fell off we’re moving so fast on this train uh if I’m right in Goldie is selling out for power right now and I think he is I think he’ll end up getting to 25 and I I think Gorman ends up getting to 30 this year yeah but those old bones man if you sell out for power they go quick so I’ll say bet it I think they get two of them I think that’s it though I do not think they get a third and we thought before the season hey you’ve got like four guys that might profile to be here mean Nolan AR three home runs for Nolan AR next year when we have the question can this lineup get like five guys that could hit 30 bombs I’m going to immed go noers could have done it sure we’ve seen Gorman’s probably going to Goldie absolutely could you could have had Nolan arado and it really came down to like could Jordan Walker have done unfortunately he has zero so probably not mhis Jordan Walker has not hit a home run in the 20124 calendar season yeah I’m wondering if we should have sold Jordan Walker when they had the chance I’m still very much in on Jordan Walker long term I don’t know man if you can’t hit Memphis Tbone tells me Memphis is just a bunch of old D 22 years old it is he’s going to be fine give him some time Alex not with this Cardinal team if you trade them elsewhere you probably could have success uh better don’t forget it guys the Cardinals make a trade by the end of the trade deadline so between now and the deadline they make a trade for a starter above a four or five you could convince yourself that there’s one that’s two for this team like are you saying that’ll start a game two for the Cardinals I’m saying a legit number two number three starter and don’t try and sell me on a Jose Jord Walker or Jordan Montgomery when they traded for him to be a two or three MH yeah then I think they’ll I think they’ll get somebody that’s similar to that well I would not have considered him a two or a three when they got him I thought he was a I would considered him a three at the time for what you had on that rotation he was a number two or number three the numbers and being like man Jordan Montgomery is better than people give him credit for he had like a 32 That season I think and he had swing and Miss stuff and I remember Yanke being like no no this guy’s not in our playoff rotation that immediately was like oh wait why why um when the Cardinals tra in with the Yankees he had a uh 3.9 erra over 100 starts I think that’s a that’s a three yeah he had a 37 that year when they had traded him I’m G to forget this I think they are going to get a five and then they are going to sell you on Matt’s getting back is just as good as a trade it’s the classic Mo line so I’m going to forget yep yep yep yep yep yep I actually believe what T-Bone just said guys bet it or forget it one of Lance Lynn or Kyle Gibson will have an erra in the threes by the end of the season forget I forget it w Faith CH you put that bad boy on no I just back that train up I don’t think that means they’re going to be bad but I think they’ve been pitching a little above their head so far that’s not they’re going to be bad no I think they’ll be a low four for both of them low four I think that’s what you should have expected out of them that was like a good season for Gibson or Lynn would have been a low four Z at this point in their careers am might being unfair there no but I figured if anybody that was going to say Bettis it would be choo choo train guy I mean they’re not guys that th your train is not a big train it’s the train I see at the zoo right now that’s what I’m saying your train is no it’s at the train that’s at the Mills Mall that’s literally the only thing there yeah hey look over here this is an empty building and an empty building and BK’s like CH we’re having fun kids is that guy okay over there no nobody’s on his train I think that they will end up in the in the low Force Gibson right now despite pitching really well so far this year is at a 3.8 that could definitely go up a little bit and we’re still going to be fine with it if he goes six Innings and gives up three ear runs on average every time he goes out there that’s a 4 five it’s a good year for Kyle Gibson so yeah I’m I’m out on this I I’m forgetting it all right 314 399 9646 is the air coverfor service EX for better or forget it guys bet or forget it the Cardinals won the NL Central forget it next question I still believe in the Cubs and somehow the Brewers but go ahead sing their song again tbon hey Chicago what do you say Cubs are going you think Chicago do this yeah I don’t think they’re they’re going through the cold SP we’re a good baseball te I’m not sure anybody’s a good basball team I think Milwaukee’s pretty decent Chicago know how they’re doing this I don’t like they’re they have so few names in their lineup that it’s it feels weird that they will be able to they have Chicago’s offense is doing what the Cardinal offense did the first month and a half and they’ll come out of it oh I disagree I don’t think they’re coming out of it I think they think they have a very good lineup they’re never GNA hit again no I think they got good hitters do you yeah like who Ian hap Cody Ballinger I think Christian morell’s Good’s good okay I’m talking to Captain chuch Chu over here calm down trying to convince me that gold get home runs I am forgetting it I think that the Brewers will ultimately win this Division I think the Cardinals will finish second and we’ll get in a wild card spot that’s where I’m at on there uh 3014 399 9646 is the a comfor service X line for better to forget it guys better to forget it Mason wi finishes with more home runs this season at the major league level than Jordan Walker does I knew where this was going when he started that I’m gonna forget that cuz man I would really be out maybe on Walker if that ends up being the case but I think Lyn probably ends up finishing with maybe 10 I I think at some point Walker’s is Walker going to hit 10 in the second half of the season I think at some point when he figures it out he can get to that Mark I I said maybe for win I think Walker could get to 10 still I think when like best case scenario is at 10 I’m starting to wonder when Jord Walker’s coming back up that’s my concern because I don’t know if he’s coming back up exactly that’s why I would probably lean towards the Mason WIS side here like who’s he playing over in your corner Outfield right now is he playing over new is he playing over burles playing over Major League level I thought this was at triple a no at the major league level who has more home run runs this year Mason win or Jordan Walker I think I would side towards Mason win and that’s not a like I think Mason wi’s going to hit 20 home runs take it’s a I don’t know when Jordan Walker is coming back up to the big league level take it’s GNA be a while I’d actually forget this I thought you said Triple A so that was my bad I will forget this one I thought he’d be be back up for June 6th that is when his bobblehead night is I do not think he’s going to be back up for his bobblehead night they’ll bring him up and they’ll send him back down he’ll he’ll be here but he’ll be technically on the Memphis roster still uh 314 399 9646 is the Air Comfort Service X line better to forget it Mason wi will make the All-Star Game this year o forget it I’m going to forget this cardal are only goingon to have one rep and it’s probably gonna be Ryan Hesley you guys sure I’m actually totally being Ser are you sure which part were you questioning in a very Tony way you should check that um you know there’s this guy named mie bats okay Willie Damas Mason wi’s been better I’m serious will he doesn’t have the name recognition to get in of Willie Adamas Willie Damas is well known oh Mason wi’s got name recognition that’s uh I think Ellie dor Cruz will get in yeah no is O’Neal Cruz probably get Mason win too I think I think mooki and Ellie dor crew are locks to get in I think Mason wi could be third no I mean it’s possible I just don’t know if he’s going to have the name he’s not going to get voted in he’ll get one of those Replacements late if guys op out the tough part for the everybody every team’s got to have a player representative and Colorado like Washington it might be uh CJ Abrams yeah so that would hurt his case because the Cardinal will have one in in Ryan Helly keny Gore is pitching pretty well from them he could be it if that ends up happening Mason wi could absolutely be an All-Star this year so I’m gonna bet it forget it this segment better to forget it or Optimist Cardinal segment he was out on Gibson and ly having three eras yeah but he’s still spun in an optimistic way I’m honest let me tell you how a four you like a stuffed animal that my daughter has it’s like a little like circus monkey that has a big hat on that’s what you look like right now I’m just going to let that one go conductor Hat’s going too and not respond I’m really curious what BK sounds like when the Cardinals lose two of three to the Reds or get swept or get swept oh traveling conditions really stun to their opportunity swept would be a tough look uh two out of three they lost game one because of the travel it was this is the guy that yells at me in hockey season about Trel so if they have that one that they lose and they lose the Palante Liberatore poo poo bladder of a bunch of relievers they don’t use in any other games yeah like that probably should have happened as well so you just got to win the game Kyle Gibson’s on the map and then you go out there in Philly shot against the Phillies and hopefully get absolutely destroyed against what is arguably the best team in baseball coming up in 15 minutes we’re diving into the junk drawer I don’t know if Alex is going to be comfortable sharing this story but Alex potentially has a story to share coming up in 15 minutes but next sunny gray asking out of another game something worth monitoring here we’ll talk about it next on 101 ESPN e e guys this is why you need to use the circus Sports Illinois app because I won big money over the weekend BK we were out it was a fun time down at Max and downtown Alton Illinois with circus Sports had a ton of people come out but while I was out there I’m like well hell I’m going to put money into this so I made of course my Ferrari o parlay a four leer I put $5 on this and I did my research I looked at FanDuel I looked at DraftKings the most I was going to win with this four leg parlay putting $5 down was7 bucks I cashed in for 120 BK thanks to Circus Sports app in Illinois on my four leg parlay nothing better than winning big over on the circus Sports app in the state of Illinois and when you go over there and you put down all of your bets you’re going to win the most money possible that’s what they’ve got for you they recommend doing exactly as Alex said go check out the other places go check out FanDuel go check out DraftKings you’ll check the prices you’ll find Circa Sports has the best and CH lond Autoplex see them at l.com Chevy together we drive are you kidding me if we’ve learned one thing about Sunny grits that he’s a very routine oriented gentleman Alex early on in his St Louis Cardinals career we saw it whenever he had to uh go out there and playing for a new team this was coming off of this was the Milwaukee start that he had where he ended up going five innings gave up seven hits six earned runs he was planning if I’m not mistaken for the Mets is that right that was the team that he was supposed to start against that gets uh rained out he ends up starting the next day against milwauke and said afterwards Hey listen I just I didn’t feel like I had my best stuff today I was going out there and I felt like I was guessing I couldn’t prepare for the team the way that I normally do he’s an over preparer to go out into a game he’s very routine oriented well then you go out there on Sunday and Alex it was a rain delay a significant one in fact and one of the questions that a lot of the reporters were asking before the game amongst ourselves was how is sunny gray going to adapt his routine to a three-hour rain delay given what we know of him in the past he went out there and was awesome for five innings gave up one hit struck out eight two walks no earned runs against the Chicago Cubs Sunday Night Baseball is absolutely cruising he’s through five innings on 74 pitches seems like this is no doubt about it easily going to be another quality start for sunny gray as a cardinal and then John King comes into the game it’s only the sixth inning you’re winning against Sunny gray was looking really good at the time it’s kind of strange to see it Alex when I first saw it I wondered like uhoh did something happen what’s going on here is is that hamstring acting up what’s going they say after the game Cardinals win they won four to3 but there were some hiccups later in the game with the bullpen and wasn’t as easy maybe as some would have hoped after the game Ali marmal comes out and says he had Sunny gray had a tough time unlocking his legs like he just he wasn’t able to completely get them going before the game and he was struggling with that all night long and they felt like hey he he did his job got you through five strong had the bullpen set up John King goes and gets his lefties and then you got the big three there no harm no foul you win the game it’s now a few games though where we’ve seen something that’s kind of popped up with sunny gray recently again the game where didn’t feel like he could prepare for Milwaukee then he asks out of the game think that was against Baltimore and then this one where his legs just he he didn’t have them under him I’m just asking the question because I think it is fair to ask given the fact that that’s three of his last four starts how are we feeling about this and what’s what the recent outings have been like for sunny gry Alex uh I mean I’m not sitting here like screaming that this is a problem and like you are screwed because Sunny Greg is still pitching really well for you and frankly he’s great he’s been the stopper that you’ve needed it is concerning to say the least I I mean I think the part that bothers me more about it is it’s back-to-back starts because I had the same reaction I’m like oh Sunny Sun’s hurt like you’re not asking out backtack games but then when they’re like no I just couldn’t figure out how to unlock his legs and he was fine other than that and he pitched well for us I’m like projecting this which might be part of the reason why because I am the ultimate pessimist when it comes to this it’s just a weird look to have your number one guy in backto back game say hey take me out I don’t have my best stuff take me out I can’t work through this just let the bullpen go out there and do their job I did my job they need to do their job which in all tense to purposes is fine you won both of those games so can’t complain about it but man how many more times is that going to happen to where you don’t win those games when Sunny gray goes out there and what if this is a late in a Do or Die situation and sunny gray says no man I I I didn’t want to go back out there I didn’t have my best stuff and you lose that game I I think that’s where the concern really starts to come up again that down the road I can’t project that you’re winning he’s giving you phenomenal outings it just doesn’t look like the number one we’ve been talking about when he’s asking out of games yeah it it’s odd because it is back toback starts in three of the last four in which like he’s not prepared which that one to an extent I kind of get but Sunny dude you got incredible stuff just let it fly man um but this one if it is more kind of injury related if you want to call it that not being able to loosen up the legs okay that that I get but can’t become a theme for the Cardinals where it is five innings asking out of games five innings you know having trouble getting loose like they need him to be an Innings eater as well as a number one because they have only four starters right now and my original thought when he got pulled until they announced after the game that it was his legs opening up and that’s why I’m not as critical today as I would have been if it was hey he had a stress ending he wasn’t really feeling it had to come out after five well then he put the bullpen behind and the bullpen is kind of a behind because of that start yeah he needs to be able to go out there each six seven Innings have lights out stuff cuz that’s what a number one does and I still think he is a number one but the last two starts have me questioning is sunny gray a one or is he more of a number two one of the best twos in baseball by the way if he was and again it needs to be reiterated he’s been amazing this year the effectiveness when he’s out there is not up for debate he’s been one of the better starters in Major League Baseball a two-point 6C when he starts the Cardinals are seven and two this year they are an excellent team when Sunny gray is out there and a well below 500 team when anybody else starts a game so this is not to diminish the quality of the innings in which Sunny gray is on the mound it is to question hey when are they going to get more of those Innings like are they going to be able to push him a little bit more as the season goes along the reason I’m not yet worried about it why am I like my concern meter is very minimal one he started the season with a hamstring injury I don’t think they want to push it right now it’s late may this is not October two I I just I think he’s been so good that I’m not overly worried about them getting five to six Innings out of him regularly three I want to see what it looks like as we get further on into the season if we are still having these conversations about Sunny either asking out of games or his lower body not getting unlocked prior to the game and I think the way that he phrased it was uh very specific he had trouble um loosening up his lower half was the way that they described it if if these things just stuff continue popping up over you know the next 10 starts for him we can have a conversation about what that means for the Cardinals and whether or not he’s going to be able to be that playoff pitcher if they get there uh that they want him to be fair question I don’t think we’re there right now I I don’t feel that way at least I want to see a lot more of Sunny gray before we get to that point because so far this year I I think he’s been basically what they paid him to be because right now he’s on Pace he’s going like almost six Innings per start if he continues to do that and makes let’s call it 30 starts this year be like 1070 to 180 Innings and he’ll do so with a 2.6 ER I think every one of us would have signed up for that at the beginning of the season if you just see the bottom line of what the results are 170 Innings 2.6 ER great sounds awesome where do I sign up once you get into the nitty-gritty of what it’s been in those nine games there’s been like three of them that have been kind of strange now it’s 33% of the starts that he’s going out there that’s weird it’s weird it’s it’s something that I was not expecting but also he came into the season with a hamstring injury I wasn’t expecting that either so that I do think that has to influence some of what we’re witnessing right now yeah I I mean I that’s why it’s just so hard for me to sit here and complain about it because like the results are getting the job done Sunny gray is doing exactly what you’ve been asking with the exception of those Innings but you know your Bullpen hasn’t been overused in the sense because you’re getting such quality starts from Sunny gray and it’s so hard to complain about something that happens down the road but like you said BK I think by the end of the season if we’re still seeing that you’ll have your assessment on it to where like Sunny gry is legit good for you but is he that number one ace guy if you’re not giving the a lotted Innings that you need to go out there every time maybe not but we we can make that determination as we get closer to the end of the season I I think there’s a lot of starters that if they’re dealing with a little something like maybe Sunny’s hamstring is just not at 100% right now maybe it’s like 70 or 80% and he feels like he can go out there give you five strong Innings and then over the course of the game it starts to kind of bite at him a little bit right if that’s what’s happening right now they should absolutely be taking him out of games as he starts to get more wear and tear on that on that leg don’t push it there’s no reason to do so because you desperately need this guy you have no depth he’s the single most important player on the roster right now there is no close second if Sunny gray were to go down for a 3we stretch dude I genu I don’t know what this team would do I don’t know how they could possibly recover from that kind of an injury so there’s no reason to push it you already can’t cover for a number five starter imagine if they lost their number one good luck season over right so they should not be pushing him right now they are treating this correctly I just hope it doesn’t become a regular thing hopefully as we continue along here there are fewer rain delays there are fewer weird things that happen over the course of the season and he can just go out there prepare for a game the way that he always has and will and go be awesome because that’s what Sunny gray has been so far this year guy that I’m not sure if he’s going to be awesome or not is uh Andre Palante he’s going to be starting for you in the next game I asked Olie marmal on Sunday prior to the game what the role is expected to be for Andre Palante now that he’s back up here’s what Ali marmal had to say pregame yeah he provides um some length in the pen um he can go in there in a SP St multiple Innings and um we’re going to need something on Wednesday as well so depending on who we use leading into Wednesday uh he’s a candidate to potentially start that as well boy I just sounds like a guy that knows that fifth spot is coming up in the rotation like oh God God he’s hoping yeah we got to find a way through this thing all he’s doing is rain Dan every fth day God please rain rain on Tuesday just please don’t Tuesday um the Cardinals have no fifth starter right now and apparently Andre going to be that guy here’s what he did for the Red Birds while he was down in Memphis as a starter must have been good he’s got called up yeah that’s why you bring him up he got a good pitcher three Innings two hits four walks one earned run five innings four hits uh two walks one earned run four and a third six hits four walks two earned runs well that’s a Michael outing so he’s not giving them a lot of length but you’d expect that because he’s not throwing a ton of pitches the most that he’s thrown so far this year is 84 pitches on the season that was his most recent outing against Gwynette he’s also walking a bunch of dudes now some of that could be because of the strike zone down there I wouldn’t think so because he’s more of a guy that lives at the bottom of the Zone but maybe maybe it’s possible if he’s going to go out there and walk a bunch of dudes Alex and he’s going to hit get hit at the clip that he has down in the minor leagues in which you know he’s giving up a 390 on base percentage to both sides of the plate so far this year that’s not ideal where are you at right now with what the Cardinals have in Andre Palante and what you’re realistically expecting from him tomorrow absolutely nothing okay I I because we now know he’s probably going to start because they used Liberator yesterday I can’t imagine they’re going to go to him on one day’s rest I mean I like the fact that they’ve moved off of Liberator and they could put him back into the bullpen now that’s a good thing for them because you are starting to see the you’re starting to see the seams rip with those Bullpen guys so at least you could take a load off of them to have somebody else in high leverage opportunities there but uh it’s infuriating I mean I’m not expecting anything from Palante because he didn’t show it at the triaa level and what makes you think he’s going to come up to the major leagues and go out there and Pitch well when he goes against the Cincinnati Reds or the Philadelphia Phillies it’s just infuriating that they have not gone out there to make a move you’re not seeing progress with Zack Thompson and Palante cool those options are going gone lior is not it cool that option is not gone you don’t believe they’re telling you that they don’t believe that any of these options in the minor leagues are ready to take that next sleap and roers glenstein and Tin Kent and McGreevy and grao and you’re still going to sit on your hands and be like Palante can get the job done that is the infuriating part so for him it sucks he should just be a bullpen guy but instead the Cardinals won’t do anything and they say you’ll be our starter this time around yeah I I don’t have high expectations and I expect this is probably going to go poorly but I think it’s at least worth a shot you know it didn’t work with libert different yeah that’s the thing is at least it’s different it’s not the different I want like Brad Keller man he was my night and chining armor but it’s different now he has a lot of the same issues that Liberator has because you know who Liberator can’t get out right-handers you know who Palante can’t get out right-handers so I expect the Reds to load up that lineup with as many righties as they possibly can but hey pilat had a shot to start um back in 2022 and in 10 starts had an RA below four now he had a high whip still so it’s probably going to look a lot like that but can you at least be serviceable at least go out there let’s see how this one start looks hopefully the front office is still looking for a trade if it goes well okay that’s your number five starter and hopefully you can just kind of piece this together to either get a trade or maybe he can actually make this work as a starter so Brad Keller just pitched his first game for Boston how’d it go I mean not great he came in in relief he he wasn’t the starter but oh so he wasn’t the starter he pitched starting in the fifth inning until the end of the game four Innings give up seven hits four earned runs one walk two strikeouts it’s not a fun line to look at it’s better than what P gives your team a chance that’s what the Cardinals are missing is a guy that gives you four to five innings regularly gives up like three to four earned runs if you could get that out of your number five starter like if Palante becomes that where it’s not super sexy but he’s going out there getting you a bunch of ground balls the ball’s not getting hit super hard against him he’s not walking guys which is my biggest concern with him right now is that he’s walking the world down in tripa and I don’t expect that to be a whole lot better at the major league level that requires pitches that puts guys on base that puts you at more stressful Innings which means you’re not getting deeper into games if you could just have him go out there regularly four to five innings three to four earned runs I will live with that that is not a good ER at all it’s terrible but it gives your team a chance given what your current options are or your lack of options are at the number five spot I just I don’t know if we can realist Ally expect that out of Andre fante I think it’s probably going to be him getting through the order one maybe two times and then going to the bullpen and going back to Kyle Le I I think the one good thing though real quick sorry to cut you off Alex the one good thing that they now have is at least he can probably throw 90 pitches so unless he’s absolutely getting rocked and honestly if he is getting rocked they might as well just chalk it up as a loss and say hey this is yours to wear big boy go out there and eat eat these innings for us throw 90 pitches the problem they had with Liberator was he was at 6 yeah so he can only go like three Innings if you’re allowing the base runners that he did and that was like a maybe and that was like a squit and barely get through it the good news is at least Palante is now built up what a bad look that is though if that is the case if you lose today to like avoid a sweep and that’s the guy you throw out there and if you get lit up and he stays on the mount for 90 pitches well I get it’s the only option but again bad look to the front office and that’s why I’m so hesitant to get on board with this team did you see the offense the last two weeks put that hat on score 10 to win that game did you see the offense yesterday it was late night coming up next jum here unbelievable e e e e e e e e e all right let’s dive into the Jun sh Alex what’s going on all right so uh we’re going have to have a little extra time on this one so my wife just went through the alltime day today so I get a phone call when about 11:30 when we’re in the middle of a segment and I pulled up the voicemail and you know it like puts it out in script for you and this and the voicemail I’ll read it to you verbatim said this hey it’s me I’m I’m calling from the neighbor’s phone I’m locked out of the house with Adelaide and right now 911 is on their way to get to the house because Emma’s inside with the dogs okay bye that came to me in the middle of a segment so I get off now I see why you were a little distracted that does not say anything about whether or not she’s okay no it just says I’m out of the house 911s on their way Emma’s inside with the dogs by like what the bleep just happened so I got off the air I called her and it’s the neighbor that picks up the neighbor’s like here’s your wife I’m talking to her she’s like hey I can’t really talk the police are here but Emma’s fine I’m looking at her they’re trying to figure out how to get inside they’ve got an axe what why do they have an axe why do they have an A she inside why are you outside okay so then I get radio silence until just now so welcome to my world so this is what happened and I mean it is an altimer so our little dog Penny she’s like she got like dog Alzheimer she’s blind she doesn’t know where the hell she is so she goes out to the backyard to go to the bathroom and if you don’t let her in right away she’ll just Roam and so she gets to the front yard so the girls were eating lunch and Katie went out in the backyard to find the dog my oldest Adelaide typically when somebody goes outside she’s like well I want to go outside so she went and followed Katie and there’s a rule in our house if the doors open shut the damn door smart so Adelaide shut the door Great rule so my wife Adelaide are outside getting the dog my littlest Emma is sitting there eating and she’s like well this is fun so she got out of her seat went and locked the screen door and like it’s a little switch on it that you just pop down and so K’s like okay what the hell do I do typically you can negotiate with the terrorists and sit by the door and be like hey honey push the thing up no that wasn’t happening so she and our our oldest dog is like you know he’s weird about little kids and so we’re like panicking so she has to go to the neighbor’s house calls the police they come over they get the door open they had break our door frame on a garage door to get the deadbolt unlocked and so then Katie gets inside and then she tells me when she was inside apparently our air conditioning guy got there Classic Air Care by the way shout out they got there the police were still there the fire department was there and my daughter Emma who was locked inside with the dog had taken her diaper off that was filled with poop and was running around the house laughing and giggling so Katie by the way Katie who is 7 months pregnant right now was locked out of the house and then she gets in the house the police are there the fire department’s there the air conditioning people are there my daughter is there and she is running around with poop in her diaper around my house other than that though other than that I said you prob so I said you should probably go lay down so you don’t go into labor after all of that apparently and obviously I was so small I do not remember this but apparently whenever I was a child my mom went into labor with my little sister my grandma was out to watch Me While My mom was uh scheduled to deliver and I did the same thing this was in January and it was snowing in Kansas City man yeah I’d be panicking more there my grandmother at the time was like 55 60 years old and so she is outside again in the snow and she’s like trying to go to all of the different Windows to get me to open up the door and I wouldn’t do it and about 45 minutes later finally I eventually open up the door I was in a lot of trouble to say the least would say so so that that is somehow worse than this but yours is amazing oh my God I just it all started from a dog that just was roaming in our backyard so she said having to call 911 to tear down a door is an all well because her phone was still inside there’s an axe yeah I know she’s like there’s an axe I have to go cuz her phone was inside and and so yeah we do not have a garage door keypad um we don’t have like a keypad to get in and Katie’s keys were in the house well now we’re getting one for our door frame but she said that she was trying to negotiate with Emma like hey push the push the little knob up so you can unlock the screen door for Mommy and she said Emma would just laugh at her and then pushed it down farther and then she just ran chaos through the entire house so that’s tremendous um yeah so that was a fun day it all started with a phone call that said hey I’m locked out of the house Emma’s inside with the dog okay bye I bet you can’t wait to go home I mean if not else’ll be funny yeah we got some a great story out of it that’s for sure Alex this T and I’m BK his wife’s a saint coming up next what’s up with the Cardinal defense right now is it a concern we’ll talk about it here on 101 ESPN e e e e e e arado can’t get to that one wave is on Martini rips around third India claims third Martini scores and a clapping will Benson congratulated by calg at first he has the Reds ahead two to one alongside Alex and TBO and I’m BK that’s how the Reds scored a run there yesterday unfortunately for the Cardinals it was their 12th consecutive game Alex with an error now the defense I think it’s fair to say has been much better this season if you’re just looking at the errors to suggest hey the defense is clearly not it’s still a problem I I don’t feel that way at all I think their defense has generally speaking been much better this year than it was last year that being said the errors are are starting to pile up and the unearned runs are starting to pile up as well for this pitching staff that are coming as a result of these errors Alex T-Bone text line at 31 4399 9646 I am curious how worried are you about the errors that have started to pile up 12 consecutive games now for the Cardinals I think they said on the broadcast the other day it’s like the most that they’ve had in a 100 years in terms of consecutive games with an error how are you feeling about this right now I mean it’s it’s concerning because that’s the I mean that’s what we were talking about at the beginning of the season it’s like what was keeping their head above water was how good they were in the field and you were thinking well if their defense can stay this Elite and you could figure out the offense this is what I meant like a month ago when I said it always feels like it’s something with the Cardinals when one piece of the boat breaks then the others start to fall and then when one gets fixed it goes back and forth and it’s like the errors that are taking place right now they’re just odd ones it’s happening with Nolan arado and I’m curious like how many of them are coming at one position it feels like a lot of them have been with Nolan ronado I don’t think it’s going to cost this team an opportunity to make it to the playoffs because of their defense because it does feel like it’s kind of a oneandone situation and it puts them behind the eightball if your offense picks up great but it’s a little odd that it’s just all of a sudden after your offense starts going your defense takes a massive step the other direction it is weird yeah I I’m not super concerned but it is really starting to get my attention like we did the scale of 1 to 10 with the relievers and I was at a three on that I’m probably at a five with the defense because this is the kind of pitching staff that needs all the help it can get with the defense though they aren’t as heavy on the pitch to contact as they were back in like 2021 where it was hey if we bring in a Lester and a half we’re going to pitch the contact throw strikes our defense is really going to help those guys they’re not that heavy and relying on contact but these guys do need help you know Gibson Lynn uh Michel especially those guys need help and cannot be giving extra opportunities to teams I I saw this today when because I was curious okay how much of this is actually hurting I mean know air is not bad unless it leads to a run well in their last nine games 10 runs are unearned because of an air that either extends the inning or at least puts one guy on that ends up coming around to score so that’s an alarming trend for the Cardinals the pitching staff as a whole has held up fairly well but they just cannot continue to be giving teams extra opportunities put up runs on the board especially against a Lynn a Gibson or a michelas or Helder fifth whoever the hell the fifth starter is but I I’m not overly concerned but I would certainly say I’m at a five right now on a scale of 1 to 10 yeah I’m at probably a four right now I just think they have good Defenders and eventually that’s going to be fine um it is strange though because a lot of them are like they seem to be almost Focus errors for the most part or just you’re not seeing a playthrough we mentioned this probably a week ago now where Nolan Gorman just had a weird a few like just strange plays at second base where he he fell asleep at second when a guy was getting ready to be tagged out clear great throw into the SEC into second just got to tag him out and he like it felt like he took too long to get down with the tag another where he just like doesn’t see a ball into his glove arnado the other day with one play that he didn’t make I feel like Goldie his range isn’t as good as it was in previous Seasons at first base this year and I think that’s where some of these are coming from where he’s like he feels as though he can get to a ball and then for whatever reason he’s just not there in time and then it results in a an error yesterday was according to the broadcast the first time both Goldie and ronado have recorded an error in the same game as Cardinals um so it’s just it’s just weird stuff that’s popping up here and there I can’t explain it I do think that it is something that just one of those things with baseball where it just happens to have taken place over the course of 12 games consecutively like if instead of having 12 consecutive games with an error it was in 12 of the last 15 games the Cardinals have recorded at era error and it was like four straight we probably wouldn’t be talking about it the same way but it’s the streak that feels weird cuz that just it never happens that many in a row and it is the 10 runs as Tbone said that have been scored with unearned uh that are unearned runs that that really hurts you this is a pitching staff that just can’t make up for that honestly so they they’ve got to improve they they’ve got to get this taken care of and they’ve got to clear it up a little so so I just look at the impressive part is not one error Has Come From The Outfield it’s all been your infield you had two on your catcher and both were PES and you had one on your pitcher so it’s all been and Gorman only had one of them it’s been with win with two of them it’s been arado with four of them and then has four AR has four of them and then gold Schmid’s got two of them good thing is Bat’s not impacting you know his defense well he’s selling out for power right well no hopefully not because the power is not there at all Alex you mentioned over the weekend Sunday Night Baseball Alec burles uh miked up for the ESPN broadcast and he sent us a text right afterwards and said man I love Alec burles want to play this for you and hopefully for anybody that missed the broadcast you’ll understand why Alex sent that text how about the door Dash gig you have during the pandemic dude where are you guys pulling this stuff from this is crazy how about the door Dash G where are you guys pulling this from oh we got more oh we got a lot more you guys got me flustered right now holy cow right the last one we were going to ask you too is about biscuits what is biscuits yeah that’s a nickname I got ah leave him wanting more I loved everything about that miked up you couldn’t have asked for a better person to mic up than Alec Burleson most of the time I think there’s our total waste of time I think mookie bets is generally pretty good I think Freddy Freeman does a great job with them they did it with the catcher with the Yankees I think it was either last year or two years ago as he was catching Nester Cortez and that one was really good those there are some that you leave especially if you’re a fan of the team you’re like man that was a lot of fun nothing more nothing less just that was a lot of fun Alec Bron’s a lot of fun dude I’m so glad that this guy’s having success at the big league level he’s got a great personality that’s what he lik in the clubhouse by the way none of that is a show like that’s that’s who Alec burles is in every way the Cardinals need guys like this man sometimes it can feel kind of uptight and stuffy in there Alec Burleson just is a fun guy to be around you know who else is fun Mason wi was walking around in the clubhouse the other day before the game this is on Sunday it was before a significant rain delay it’s worth noting that he just got a uh Fitz’s Root Beer that he’s just walking around the clubhouse with again he’s getting ready to play a professional baseball game he’s got to F his root beer that he’s drinking this like three hours before the scheduled start time guys can just do stuff when they’re that level of an elite athlete that I could never do I could never drink be I’m in the bathroom before a game but just just one small little tiny detail that I think is interesting um this is so there was nothing more to that it was just he was carrying a root beer around that’s that’s what was well cuz I was expecting you to be like oh and he like walked over and poured it on somebody’s head you going think I’m cool if I walk into the office root beer I drink root beer at home I think it is representative of who Mason wi is like that that’s it just he can’t drink beer so he’s drinking root beer just trying to find doesn’t have a lot of cares all right just just I’m just trying to figure out what was fun about that okay um you have another example or no that’s all I got had to be upset he had root beer oh yeah he had to have been angry that he was drinking a root beer before a game that’s probably what he doesn’t like the young guys that they’re drinking all the root I was I was expecting that he had like a a cup of ice cream at his his locker and he walked over and he made himself a root beer float I thought maybe talking a bad story I apologize I just I tell me you found a dollar at the end of it and I’m in then he went over to his locker sat down and got ready for the game oh it’s a terrible story I I know man get home Alec Burleson is a personality this team’s been missing Alex loves him that’s all I wanted to get to NFL quick HS is next J 101 ESPN e e Alex ferrario with you to talk about my friends at Classic Air Care yes the Classic Air Care that was a part of the chaos that was today for my wife but the good news is my AC is in good shape we had them come back out because there was some type of noise that was coming from my air conditioning unit uh last weekend and I was like this doesn’t seem right classic ha care of course came out they told my wife what the issue was they fixed the issue and we are on our way back with AC in our house that’s what I love about Classic Air Care we’re a part of their maintenance program which means if we have issues we give them a call and they are out there right when they can put it on the schedule which typically is in a couple of days they come out they fix the issue they identify what the problem is and they let us know they’re so informative and knowledgeable the technicians when they come out with Classic Air Care I love using them I have been using them since I purchased a home back in 2016 and if you’re in the market for a new HVAC system a new HVAC company that’s going to be out there taking care of you and your family then give Classic Air Care a call today you can also check them out online classic air care.com tell them Alex ferrario sent you at Classic aircare e e all right let’s di in some NFL quick hitters we’ll get Katie Woo Cardinal’s Insider for the athletic in just about 10 minutes Alex let’s start with the big news today in the NFL OTAs might be gone uh oh they might be going away according to a report from Tom pisero of NFL media the union is working to finalize a proposal that would quote overhaul the off season starting as soon as next year voluntary onfield work during the offseason would go away training camp would be extended by as much as a month uh we’d be talking about players reporting in mid June or early July for training camp so Alex the offseason would essentially go from the Super Bowl up until mid July po mid June um and during that time the coaches would not see their players at all it would just be guys reporting to Camp starting in mid June or early July now why would they do that you may be asking the guess the assumption is this would be what players want in return for 18 games Alex what do you think about this potential change for the NFL getting rid of OTAs adding more time for training camp as the ramp up I mean it doesn’t really impact me that much but I have a feeling the players are going to despise IT twomon training camp that everybody has to be at in the heat for a lot of those teams that is I think you’re going to see a lot of complaining it makes sense if you’re extending the season to 18 weeks that you have to eliminate that so you can have a longer off season I also wonder how much this is going to impact the onfield product if you’re not getting to see them earlier in the off season so you don’t know what’s going on and then you hit a two-month training camp and injuries take place and then the regular season is uh messed up what are why yeah I don’t I don’t know know dude I don’t get this at all if you’re going to negotiate if you’re a player why exactly these are optional I would never do that you can negotiate in your contracts to not have any bonuses to go to the workouts or like get them down to like $100,000 and if you’re a player that makes significant money cool take the $100,000 out whatever that’s fine I’ll I’ll miss out on that and I’ll work out on my own for three months and then I’ll be ready to go come early August for training camp I don’t understand why players would agree to this coaches don’t want this players don’t want this the only people that are like you’re really going to trade that yeah let’s do that the only people that want this trade is owners that’s it because they don’t care sure show up in May show up in June show up in July show up in we don’t care we get in that 18th game we get in that gate Revenue where we can now have a full week for every single team that’s going internationally and we can sell that it’s a new package that we can give to a media rights deal cool great and we’re getting all of that for what the tradeoff is nothing it’s reporting to training camp a month earlier hell yeah we did it boys Roger gell you son of a gun you did it again you owners should be thrilled I don’t get this at all for anybody else it doesn’t make any sense this won’t get approved I I think it will though that’s the thing is I seems like it’s I don’t understand how the players like this maybe there’s something I’m missing but I because this is to your point you know right now it’s kind of you get OTAs that’s kind of voluntary you don’t have to go you can sit out once you get to training camp you’re getting fine for not showing up like that’s what I don’t understand is why would you want to have a like why would I want a two- Monon required go to training camp you know what I’ve heard car Davis tell me before training camp sucks like I I don’t think they want to do it for two months that’s what I don’t understand is why they would enjoy this I I don’t know what’s going on I I saw this this morning and I thought I read the headline wrong I had to read it twice to make sure I fully understood I didn’t even think honestly that’s a great point about holdouts so they now have the mandatory fines that are implemented for anybody that’s going to be holding out right this would essentially it’s already basically eliminated Chris Jones was one of the rare players that actually held out all of training camp and it took him getting a massive boost in his deal to be able to cover up for most of the fines not all of them if you end up adding another month to training camp there will never be another hold out yeah you couldn’t how could you possibly do it like T Higgins for example he hasn’t signed his franchise tag so he could hold out because he’s not currently under contract but Jamar Chase who’s holding out right now of OTAs he’s not attending currently and he wants a new contract he couldn’t miss out on Camp you’re not going to miss early Camp to to hold out from your deal why would you do that you’re missing out on I think it’s $50,000 a day you get through the first month we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars that you’re missing out on it’s a really good point and if you’re an owner it’s another potential unintended consequence to be able to go with there oh darn shoot uh all right another uh bit of I guess news and note that we got at OTAs is that Shawn pyton has been thrilled by what he’s seen so far from New Broncos quarterback Bo Nick yeah this is trying to polish a turd what do you think a successful season would look like for bonick this year like if Shawn Payton’s right and bonick is better than we’re all anticipating what does that look like for the Broncos Broncos are in the playoff conversation I I don’t even know if they have to be a playoff team for how bad they were last year with Russell Wilson I think he’s got to make him look like a team that could compete for a playoff spot that would be a success I just like I don’t even know what it would look like I I don’t know if it’s like team result based I think it is you just watch him play you go okay I can see what they’re talking about is he like Tu a Tong of ioa is that what a success I was trying to think of like who the most recent rookie quarterback is that like came in and didn’t do like what CJ did but it’s solid and you don’t have to go all right do we have the guy you go okay we’ve got the guy now we got to build a roster to really evaluate him I think that’s where they are with him he’s not really a he’s not a player that comes in and adds a bunch of value with his legs he’s not this overwhelming physical Talent he’s kind of in that like Kurt Cousins Matt Ryan Jared gof Tu a tongue of ioa Lane of being a decent pocket passer with a little bit of mobility and with their receivers that they have available a to them right now I just I don’t see how that looks great I don’t see a scenario in which even if he’s better than we’re all expecting and Bo Nick ends up becoming a solid NFL player I could see how down the road he gets to the kurk cousins Lane that that kind of a quarterback in the NFL early on though I I would be shocked if he ends up having a bunch of success as a as a rookie so like don’t see out how it happens these numbers wouldn’t be I wouldn’t think what you would see because there’s an added game but like what Derek Carr did his rookie year 58% completion percentage 21 touchdowns 12 picks 3 four 3200 yards went three and 13 but the Raiders I don’t know if it was back then I say back then that was 2014 but back then it was you give the rookie quarterback more time it’s less reactionary as it is now maybe that’s it because that’s what I’m thinking of is like they’re not going to be very good like they may win five games but I don’t know if you should be reflecting the performance of B Knicks based on the team’s record I agree I I don’t think that they’re going to be very good but I don’t know that it’s necessarily his fault they just don’t have a lot of Talent on that roster would wasted a first round pick on him I’m BK coming up next ktie woo Cardinal Insider for the athletic here on 101 ESPN e e e e e e e e ter Hendricks here are a sports center update brought to you by celga Heating and Cooling the Cardinals fell to the Reds yesterday 3 to one they’ll be back in Action tonight against Cincinnati Kyle Gibson’s on the mound for St Louis 540 will be first pitched the sports update is brought to you by SGA heating cooling independent heating and air conditioning dealer choo choo we are officially back all board the Cardinal’s hype train with Alex and Tbone and I’m BK you got BK and ferrario here on 101 ESPN God BK you’re a tool I know so much I know we’re aware of that so much not even a good tool you know what are you know what you are you’re a flathead screwdriver God D you’re a tool nobody even uses a lot of us for nobody uses a flathead screwdriver it’s always you use one on your door when you get back uh let’s go out to the 101 ESP on hotline to hear from Katie Woo she’s the Cardinals Insider for the athletic we’ll hear if she is jumping on board this Cardinal’s hype train always appreciate her joining us each and every week here on BK and ferrario Katie we appreciate the time as always how you doing today okay guys that was maybe the worst way to come back from break that I have ever experienced on this show uh wow BK that was a lot you should see it Katie Katie I I heard that BK is difficult to be close to at a Cardinal’s Press Box no no that’s not fair no he’s fine he’s fine I just wasn’t expecting the train whistle um but hey you know what if we’re back on the hype train or back on the hype train let’s roll with it I mean they’ve won 10 of 13 um he looks like Tom Hanks from Polar Express right now we’re being totally candid it might be my only opportunity to jump back on board so I might as well do it now while I still can it’s going to kick you off like like a bull they don’t have a fifth starter Nolan arado is complaining that he doesn’t know what’s happening right now with the swing Paul Goldman is selling out for power um Wilson contras is hurt so yeah like this is my opportunity and here we are um Katie What’s led to them going 10 and three in this stretch in your opinion I think you’ve seen a lot of guys step up I mean we heard all about the bad luck vibes from Alec Burleson last year right and when you’re looking at expected numbers like expected slugging expected batting average from a fan standpoint you’re like yeah that’s great what about the actual results and now I think we’re seeing why the Cardinal front office and the Cardinals coaching staff was so high on Alec Burson because those expected numbers they believed would in fact translate to success we’re seeing that with Burleson right now you’re seeing guys like Mason W turn into not just a major league shortstop but a major leager he’s been super fun to watch Michael C not exactly a guy that’s going to hit for power but he’s figuring out way to sing on base and then you’re seing overall better quality of bats one through nine with the exception of maybe a certain third basem but we’ll get to that I think you’re just seeing overall better offense from the club this to me while it’s not the offense that I would have imagined the Cardinals having the results are more indicative of what I expected them coming into string training can they survive long term with this type of offense Katie where all of these complimentary pieces have to carry such a massive load if you’re not getting the gold and R and auto that we expected that’s a good question but I do think um the good news is that we’re seeing Paul gmid take a lot more Paul gmet like swings his last few games the the quality of the bats and the swing path have looked a lot better he’s looked like the goldie that Cardinals fans have come to know obviously being without contarus you’re missing a lot of power there being without Walker you’re missing some power there Nolan Gorman hasn’t really looked all the way like the power hitter that we thought he’d be but look it’s not about how you score it’s the fact that that they’re scoring and they’re doing a much better job of that than they did over the first six weeks you certainly like to see more power from the heart of the order um I’m again you know I I think they all those players be the first to say G Arona that they haven’t really stepped up and met the challenge so far in that regard but the the Cardinals believe it or not have some pretty good quality pitching both in the rotation and the bullpen so if they can find ways to string rallies together and come back one down which they’ve done over the last two weeks but I’m not too overly concerned about the overall offensive production they do have some good pitching they do not have a fifth starter though and what they’re apparently going to do on Wednesday is go with Andre Palante because they used liverator coming out of the pin the other night Katie you had a conversation with John mosu about where things stand currently with that spot in their rotation what did you learn in your conversation with Mo about where they’re at right now with their number five starter uh yeah you know I learned that there isn’t really a viable option on the 26 man roster 40 man roster or in tripa a right now and to me that’s a huge problem for this organization now it’s out of fairness the Cardinals did report to Spring training with a bunch of guys they thought could be their their six starter you’re looking at Zach Thompson libe to an extent until they found a different role for in the bullpen which I totally totally fine with Drew ROM was an option Andre Palante was an option to an extent they’re not exactly names that get you excited but they should be names that are able to kind of bridge this Gap in case a starter missed two or three outings um with Stephen Mass out until probably the end of the month that’s going to be a lot longer and the big problem is is that none of the Cardinals top pitching prospects look ready for this neither do any of the options that they had uh previously coming into spring training so they’re going to do what they’ve done with Ma just with a different name you know Andre Palante is most likely going to get that start tomorrow you can’t roll out Libby for a couple of innings maybe behind him or even an opener that’s something that Mo floated my way earlier in the week but to me you know it’s not really a problem if you don’t have a fifth starter for a turn or two through the rotation but we’re approaching nearly a month of Cardinal baseball and there is no viable option for a number five starter it’s a bad message in my opinion to send to a clubhouse that has really grinded out the last two weeks and you know given fans opportunity and reason to buy back into this club now you’re rolling out every fifth day kind of like hey we know this isn’t a good strategy but it’s all we got Kitty realistically what would it what would it cost a cardinal team to go out there and and get somebody to be a fifth starter for them well it’s difficult right because it’s not like teams are trading right now it’s the end of May and it’s not like the waiver wire is full of guys I mean I I understand maybe why fans would want someone like a brad Keller or a Zach Davies or an Eric low I’m just thinking about guy well Brad not Brad Keller anymore but someone like that that were on waivers but it’s it’s difficult from the Cardinal perspective because there’s just not a lot of options out there and if they don’t think those guys on waivers are anything better than they have within their own organization then why go get them the problem is again is that they don’t seem to have a lot of viable options inside their own organization you were hoping that guys like Gordon grao Michael mcgrey two guys drafted out of college in 2021 would be Major League ready by 2024 unfortunately they’re not and to me that’s more of an on Player Development than what’s going on at the major league level you’d be hoping that maybe Sam baa would be ready to go but I certainly understand the Cardinal’s reluctance to push up a prospect out of need and Rush their development considering how often they’ve done that with their prior pishing prospects and how little that’s worked out for them so it’s a tough spot I think John moso said it best it’s a Rubik’s Cube no matter who they throw out there they’re putting themselves at a disadvantage no matter what it is not a problem that seems to be solved within the organization at the moment and right now it seems like they’re best solution whether fans agree with it or not is to Simply patch this up until Stephen mat is healthy again Katie Woo is our guest here on 101 ESP and you can read her conversation uh what she learned from John moso and extended form over at the athletic you can find that on her Twitter account Katie jwoo Katie do you think that’s a viable option to go I I mean it might be another month before they get Stephen mats back to full force do you think this team can withstand a month of not having a number five star um you know if you were to ask me that straight up I would say no but guess what they just did sure and they played some of their Bas their best baseball in the process it’s not a viable strategy it’s not a long-term solution but to the Cardinals credit you know I think we need to give some credit to Oli maral to the pitching coach staff of Dusty Blake jio Rangel uh py alkins they’ve done a really good job of trying to Patchwork this thing and a lot of guys believer wise have stepped up as well I mean Kyle Le he has shown some good stuff Chris Warra when he was up these aren’t exactly names that fans are like oh yeah let’s let’s pack the confidence in but they’ve done their job John King is someone who stepped up and filled Libby’s role when Libby was in the rotation so they at least have the pieces from the bullpen standpoint to kind of Patchwork this is it sustainable I’m not buying it um but again to the Cardinal credit over the last four weeks they’ve done a pretty good job of making it sustainable Katie we talked about this earlier in the show it’s back toback starts for sunny gray to where he’s kind of called for Oly to get him out of the game how did you feel after that second time around where he did it with the Cubs I have no issue either way I definitely have no issue with the first one I mean he gave everything he possibly could and then some in that final is that um this one because of the weather being so weird I mean we were talked to Sunny after the game and he was essentially warming up for two hours so at that point you have the guys you got through five scoreless innings we talked about King stepping up in that Libby role you have the big three in Andrew krid JoJo Romero Ryan hle like I know they weren’t the sharpest against the Cubs but that’s going to happen they’re not perfect they still did their job so I had no issues with sunny gray saying hey you know what if you want to take me out that’s your call the difference between the most recent one and the first one is that the first one it was his call the second one he let olly make the decision those two have a really solid relationship so I think if Sunny who’s been in this league a very long time if he’s willing to put the chance into Oli maral’s hands and Olie decides to go you know for the bullpen I don’t really have an issue with that all right okay the final question that I’ve got for you here both of these players are currently hitting 300 Mason win and Alec burles Mason win exact at 300 Alec burles at 308 so far on the season which of those two players is more likely to finish the season with at least a 300 batting average in your opinion yeah the two guys we thought would Pace this Cardinal offense really stepping up you know I really like and this is no knock against Mason but I really like what we’ve seen out of burison over the last month and you’re’ seeing what a guy what a guy can do when he finally gets consistent playing time and you know he give a lot of credit to him he stuck with the process even though it wasn’t yielding a lot of results because the organization and himself believed that he was doing the right things you’re looking at things like fail rate hard hit percentage uh the minimal strikeout percentages are all things he does really well he gets on base um I think the Cardinals have found a real hit tool in Burlison and uh that’s maybe not what a lot of us were thinking last year but credit to him because he stuck it out he got an opportunity and he’s riding with it she’s Katie Woo Cardinal’s Insider for the athletic joins us each and every week here on BK and ferrario ktie we appreciate the time as always we’ll talk with you again next week you got it guys thanks so much got it that’s Katie Woo joining us as she does each and every week here on BK and ferrario I love what we’re seeing out of Alec buris man I too I I think it’s a lot of fun and more importantly it’s needed they needed this kind of production out of Alec Burleson if they’re going to have a step back this season from Goldie and r i it’s one of those rare occasions where I talk so much about how you know this Cardinal team’s never willing to trade away pieces and sometimes those pieces that they’re unwilling to trade away don’t pan out it’s one of those rare occasions that I look at and I say good on the Cardinal is not moving him we used a lot this offseason yeah it was what I was concerned about remember we were talking about hey do you trade Alec burles to maybe go get a a backend starter I was like my my concern with Burleson is I’m not sure he’ll ever become a star I don’t think that’s in his range of outcomes but I’m pretty confident that guy’s a good hitter and if he ends up going elsewhere and does can you imagine if he went elsewhere and did for somebody else what he’s doing right now for you oh my God we would have never let them live that down because this is a guy that’s going out there and he’s he’s batting 305 the last time that the Cardinals had a player that was this good at like just the batting average thing putting balls in play and consistently hitting it hard and giving yourself a chance regularly dude it I mean what are we talking about like Tommy fam probably but even Tommy fam was more like power oriented on base oriented I feel like the last time we had a guy that was just this much batto ball skills here in St Louis Matt holiday like Prime Matt holiday Maybe yachty to a degree those are probably the guys that immediately come to mind for me am I forgetting somebody recently um maybe did Allan Craig have a little of that to him yeah I mean that’s going back to like that’s F when I think holiday I think more power oriented too like fam you know because he hit 30 home runs I mean I’ve comped him to Matt Adams and Matt Adams was all about the power Adams is probably the the closest comp that we’ve got for but that’s again that’s going back like 10 years now so in the last 10 years you just really haven’t had this kind of a hitter and it’s what they’ve been missing so it’s good to have that guy uh back into the lineup Cardinals 10 and three in their last 13 games I’m back on board Alex and tbon are at least dipping their toes in the water right now want to hear from you guys as well 314 399 9646 is the Air Comfort Service tax line we’ll wrap up our thoughts from the twoin one weekend for the Cardinals and where things stand for them coming up next year on the ban for Ario rewind e e e e e e e e hey with Alex and TBO and I’m BK if you missed anything from today’s show be sure to check out the podcast page 101 espn.com and the free 101 ESPN app is where you go to find it it’s all presented by dos Tire and Auto Centers Alex the Cardinals are 10 and three in their last 13 games now this comes with a lot of caveats they don’t have a number five starter Nolan arado is not hitting for power or average lately Paul goldshmid is finally hitting but he’s still striking out 35% of the time and to me it appears as though he’s kind of selling out for power the batting average is boosted by some some good luck honestly like sometimes that just happens nothing he needs to apologize for but it’s the reality of it and he’s hitting the ball hard nice three home runs in the last two days you love to see that there’s just a lot of question marks that still remain the back three in your Bullpen appears to be again understandable I don’t blame OE for this at all I think he’s done it the right way but they’re they’re getting a little tired they’ve been used a lot so far this year uh when you go back to the same toy over and over and over again Alex my dog she loves the same tennis balls she consistently uses them and then we have to throw them away because they get gross that’s kind of what it’s like right now with the back end of your Bullpen they keep going back call Gross no I’m saying they just they’ve been used a lot there’s a lot of wear and tear on those arms right now and so as you go into the next few games you’re looking at it you’re like man Kyle Gibson okay guy that’s going out there and a a hitters ballpark against that lineup we’ll see how that goes tomorrow you got Libby on the mound it’s probably not a great matchup maybe you’re going to go to Palante there not a great matchup and then you got three against Philly on the road against arguably the best team in all of major league baseball right now this is a really tough road uh for the Cardinals I saw enough in that 13 game stretch to bring me back on board I’m not telling you this is a great baseball team I don’t think it is I think it’s okay I think it’s solid I think they have enough going for them and enough fight enough Good Vibes I know nobody wants to hear it I think they’re going to be back in the race I think they’re going to be in it for the long haul Alex how are you feeling about the Cardinals today man it’s so hard for me still not to be on board but that Cincinnati Reds game yesterday like it put me back into like that PTSD where it feels like I was ready to give my heart back to him but then I remembered they cheated on me and I was like no I can’t do it you did everything I needed to see you did it against Boston you did it against Baltimore Chicago and you did it against really good pitching your offense came through you came from behind in a lot of games everything is clicking right now to where I look at and I say I don’t know what other excuses I’m going to come up with to say why I can’t get on board I don’t think they’re a team that can do anything of substance in the playoffs but I think because the national league is so crappy that they’re all they they are one of the best teams fighting for the Wild Card spots and I will give them credit for that but I still feel like my foot is in the pool but I’m not ready to go in yet because I one I don’t think this front office is willing to invest in a team that has what it takes to make a push hence their number five starter problem I’m very worried that you used your Bullpen so much in the first chunk of the Season that they’re not going to be a weapon and at the end and I still feel like that this offense is a facade that I just can’t buy into yet yeah it’s twofold for me into why I’m not buying in and it’s tough not to because I said hey however they do in this home stand they play well I’m ready to buy back in and they did they they ended up doing very well at home and in a very tough stretch of the Season that could have definitely sunk their season but for me it is you’re still not getting arnado hitting and I think you’ve got to have the big three of Goldie arnado when contras is healthy contras hitting to be a playoff team I don’t think they can make the play us without those three hitting and arnado is still not hitting and the other thing is is right now it feels like with their rotation they are playing with one arm tied behind their back because they don’t have a five starter and it guarantees in a series like this where you’re automatically probably going to have one loss and you lost the start with Lance Lynn so all of a sudden you’re into a spot of okay can we take one of three and now you’re in a road trip where it is Cincinnati is a tough place to play you’re already behind the eightball because you lost that game because of traveling in late last night which that I can totally understand I rarely get behind the whole travel thing yesterday was one of the rare exceptions where I did feel like that affected them but you have a guarant I’m not going to call it a guarantee but a more than likely loss on Wednesday so okay well now we’re looking at potentially at best one and two probably in this series and then you’re going to Philadelphia who’s a really good team and then you go to Houston bats have to heat up the next nights that’s got to be the thing like tonight tomorrow you got to get some good off good thing you’re going up against a lefty that You’ never seen before tonight they’ve seen a bot I think a bot is that nameit hence haven’t seen him before all right maybe we haven’t the Cardinals have seen him they they actually hit him really well they they ended up the guys that are in the lineup that have seen him are six for 14 uh with five walks against them two strikeouts so they they have a combined op over a thousand um now what that means tonight not much you’ve seen him like once for the most part for these guys it’s his second year in the big leagues and he’s been pretty darn good so far this season for the Reds but you got to go out there and do well and then Frankie Mones gets on the mound you got to do well against him too that’s how this team is constructed we knew this coming into the season they had to be an offense first team now clean up the defense that’d be helpful for you especially tomorrow when you’ve got the poo poo platter of relievers that’s going on the mount wow unbelievable today you got gibon it’ be helpful if you had some quality defense behind him you’re terrible conduct the lineup game I would imagine is coming up at 2 o’clock today the fast lane will have that for you it is already out I you should be pretty decent defensively out there today you got to go show it what did you I think they should be Prett let people hear when they hear the lineup game because one spot no I think you’ll be fine today def Third Base yeah Third Base that’s the problem I know where you think that they’re going to be lacking and maybe they will but I think they should you know where they’re playing tonight right I do it’ll be fine that’s why you can get away with it again I’m not giving anything away I don’t want to give it away for the listeners they want to play the lineup game with the fast lane they’ll they’ll go right along with it understand that a lefties on the mountain God you really are a conductor of this poo poo platter choo choo we’ll be back to you guys tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. fast Lane’s got you taken care of from 2 to 6 you’re on 101 ESPN God BK you’re a tool e for
