Jim Montgomery: “You can’t win every game 2-1” | Bruins vs Panthers G6 Postgame

Jim uh appear to be in control of the game in the second period you had multiple grade A’s when they didn’t go did you sense frustration at all um I didn’t sense frustration um but the lack of our ability to score in the playoffs in general um you know you can’t win every game 2-1 you know Jimmy just coach to to further expand on that um what did you think like what’s the main reason you guys couldn’t execute and get those goals when you need them um well we had the opportunities right I think we had five odd man rushes after two periods tonight so and then game four we had several we had three breakaways I mean that’s you know comes down to you know their goalie was good and we didn’t beat them I mean at times you know um played too much in our in our end in the uh second and third period tonight Dan Jim just what what did you say to the to the guys after this and thoughts on that in the series yeah um you know I I told them that um I thanked them and it was an honor to coach them because of the hard work and the competitiveness that they brought throughout the year um you know so that was uh the biggest thing I wanted to get across and that you know um you never have happy when you you don’t win your last game of the year and some players had tremendous growth this year and they can be proud of that and in the end we have to find ways to get better and win our last game of the year Chris coach when you look at the reason you didn’t have success this year you pointed to to goal scoring in this series is that the biggest reason you didn’t have success in the series um well I would say in the series yeah we we didn’t finish I mean I don’t know outside of game one I don’t think did we score more than two goals I mean I’m you know my head’s all spinning right now so I don’t know you know I think we had three and we didn’t score more okay there you go um but it’s not the only thing you know like there’s several other elements of the series um you know the territorial ozone time that they had over us it has compounding effects and um I thought we started to came off great and it got away from us in a second Jim I know it’s kind of fresh but looking back at the series is there anything you wish that you would have coached up differently or looked at differently um it’s too early to think about all that you know there’ll be more availability um in a couple of days and I’ll have you know probably more intelligent answers for you than going off of my vapid brain right now Tara um if you wouldn’t mind maybe just a a closing thought on Jeremy and you know how he emerged for you and and did you think Brad gave you a lift by returning last night we just you know yeah um Jeremy Swan was terrific I mean um night in Night Out gave us an opportunity to win every night making Sensational saves um his competitiveness you know was something that our players and I thought our team and our bench fed off of um Brad Mar coming back was a huge lift I mean that Ovation at the beginning of the game was um says it all and then I think he played really well he competed he came up with a lot of pucks he had a lot of opportunities Jim if you could just fill out that thought a little bit on the how that compounds when uh they’ve got the territorial edged they’re getting the greater number of shot attempts is is it a mental fatigue or is it is a physical fatigue in your own end it’s probably a combination of both but I mean it you know you I think you see it I thought our defenseman iced pucks unnecessarily tonight and I think that happens from that the fatigue that you’re talking mentally and physically uh Jim did you think it was going to be your night when zaka broke through and scored that goal and how much a lift did that give you at the time when when he finally busted through and scored one yeah I I thought it was going to be our night before the game um I just thought our players were loose and confident they went out and played that way um you know uh I thought that we started the game off really well I thought the the power play took a little momentum then they pushed for five minutes then I thought the last five minutes including the zacha goal we were really good and in the second period I thought they pushed and we didn’t push back hard enough in the second and we did have those odd man rushes that if we push the lead like we had the brazzo chance you had the coy chance you had the basically two-on-one two on0 slash with marshan and um and pasta you know some of those you know we need to bury to push the lead so that you have a little bit of a cushion thank you coach

  1. Okay. Bridge year over. Do something smart with that projected $20 million in cap space, Sweeney. Sign the stud Swayman is priority number one. Got to get something for Ullmark. With Swayman's impending new deal, their combined salaries will be too high to carry.

  2. Panthers were really heavy favorites in this series. I think Boston gave a valiant effort. Panthers went to the Cup last year and are even better this year. Rangers will be a super tough opponent though. Hope Maurice has the crew jacked up.

  3. Time to rebuild, players that didn't step up in Playoffs gotta go. .Montgomery?? Game 7 Toronto could have gone either way. Montgomery not working out. If we put the same product on the ice next year we'll get same results !!

  4. There's an entire offensive overhaul coming. There's a ton of film out on Pasta and Marchand, and you can't have wingers that are 35 and 36 years old and expect great results in the playoffs. It's time to cut the dead wood. Boston is one of the most resilient teams in the NHL and this was a transition year from them. They'll be back with younger and faster guys next year and with fire in their eyes.

  5. Need a much tougher team not built for playoff hockey. The Rangers will not allow Bennett to take out star player with no consequences.

  6. Bruins did well but they were out played , FL, puck control and speed were unmatched . Sam Reinheardt was just amazing in this series along with many others to mention Forsling.

  7. Power play let them down, pasta was non existent, too many STUPID penalties, iced the puck versus moving it out of their end.
If it wasn’t for Swayman, this team would not of made it out of round 1.
Maybe next year they can just play in the opponents rink, don’t play well at home.

  8. Learn to count in the offseason. JVR, gryz, shittinkirk, boqvist, and Ullmark… all need to go. Get a good center on draft day for Ullmark. Debrusk can stay but only if the price is good.. unlike some people i have seen saying give him as high as $6m lolol. Jake isn't getting $6m from any team let alone the Bruins

  9. We need a new coach for start. And other staff – we had at least one new record – to many men on the ice 😂. It has been a problem for years but this year we are best …

  10. B’s gave it a good shot. Proud of this year, but there are obviously more than a few things to work on, always room for improvement. Losing sucks, but October will be here sooner than any of us realize, so we are definitely on the clock, to make the improvements we need to, and get back to where we wanna be.

  11. Bruins couldn’t do it .Its a fast game every seconds counts .You get shifts and breaks Play ever second on the ice .Enjoy early vacation .Only lazy weathermen get away with this swayman excluded

  12. 7 too many men penalties in this series!! How come no one is talking about that? Isn’t that the coaches fault when this happens?? I noticed they happened at the worse times in the game and it just deflates any momentum.. I’m not sure he’s the right guy going forward..

  13. Bro realized he finally couldn’t keep blaming everything else but himself/his team after playing like actual dog water the huge majority of the series. Bad reffing happened much of the series on both sides, it’s not gonna help your team playing like doo doo

  14. The bruins played one period only, the bruins were not taught how to move the puck out of their own end, the bruins were not taught how to set up for a power play, the bruins forgot to finish their check, the bruins forgot to head man the puck. These bruins did. It display the traits of the bruins gone by. Disgrace. Rebuild immediately.

  15. The boys worked hard but they just don't have enough. They stopped play-making and resorted to firing the puck in on offense, and throwing the puck up the boards on defense… the team just gets beat up and exhausted with that approach.

  16. Fire Montgomery!!! Sweeney built this team for the no-check beer league regular season. Fire Sweeney. Release DeBrusk, Carlo, Shattenkirk. Grzelcyk, Maroon, trade Ullmark. Get some scoring. Get some tough players who won’t backdown. Bruins were weaker than I’ve ever seen them. Pathetic!

  17. Fixing this mess will start at the top and Monty you inherited a great team from Cassidy and you should’ve won the cup last year. You haven’t shown me that you can actually coach. Time for you to move on and start drinking again

  18. Two things you got no strength at center and the second is waiting for quality scoring chances is for 18 loaded with skilled forwards so you have an ideology problem

  19. Jim Montgomery – dude you can't win at home . Last year you blamed the goalie coach like a weasel. You broke the record for to many men on the ice . They fired Don Cherry for less . If you're still here next year I'll be surprised. You could have done more with call ups from Providence.

  20. Panthers are a great team with great team players!
    Great offensive
    Great goalie
They also get away with dirty play and somehow suck the refs in with diving that causes extra penalties

  21. Bruins had to of had the the shallowest center depth in the league this year they need to pick up a real first line center this off season. Lindholm on canucks is gonna be a free agent he’s only 29 years old and I could see do the job for Boston they should absolutely go after him.
