The Indianapolis Colts LOOK UNREAL At Minicamp…
all right boys welcome back to another video swagy here today we’re talking about the Indianapolis Cults we’re going to get into some key points during training camp that I’d like to emphasiz starting off with the biggest thing and that’s the health of Anthony Richardson so of course if you guys have been following the team and the practices and all the interviews Richardson he has taken the vast majority of starting reps this spring but he also is dealing with soreness in that shoulder remember he had surgery and it isn’t fully healed now Richardson did say on a podcast that he was about 95% healthy but the Colts realize that hey look we’re 2 months away from the regular season we’re not going to push this guy if of course the Colts did play this Sunday or last Sunday even he would have been out there but there’s no reason to rush him especially because the fate of the franchise lies in his hands mean Richardson he’s only 22 years old remember he was the third youngest quarterback ever to start a regular season game last season and now he’s had a whole season and an off seon to sort of get more up to speed the NFL is a lot faster a lot stronger a lot quicker and Richardson being behind Garner muu and of course now having Joe flacko he’s been able to learn the ropes of the NFL he’s also been able to learn the Playbook more Richardson has not been able to put the Playbook down this off season according to him and I expect the offense to be a lot more complex next season it’s still wild to me because the Colts finished tied for 10th in scoring and that was with Richardson being banged up for 75 actually more because more than 75% the season because the Texans game two drives the Jags game he came out at the end of that and then of course like the Titans game Richardson barely played in that so the fact that Richardson has been learning The Playbook and of course just making sure that he’s able to bulk up a little bit so that he can sustain these hits because I don’t think any quarterback in the history of football would be able to sustain the amount of hits that Richardson was taking on a week- toe basis but at least now if he does take one he’s got five seven extra pounds of muscle on him which is definitely going to help him but the key for the Colts will be to make sure that Richardson isn’t taking as many hits they still should give him of course designed runs and let him run the options but you know Richardson he has to be careful you don’t want to be trying to run over linebackers you know defensive back I get it but going after guys that are your size and your speed it’s the NFL probably isn’t the smart thing long term for the Colts because we saw last season that this team just was not the same without him yeah sure the Colts were a drop away from making the playoffs but Richardson had been out there they wouldn’t needed that game to make the playoffs because they certainly would have won at least one more game with Richardson out there I mean no disrespect to muu but he just doesn’t have the arm or the mobility the I don’t even know how to phrase this he’s just not as as Dynamic of a player I mean mchu is pretty average but Richardson the dude had seven touchdowns in basically three games which is just crazy I mean I don’t know if a rookie has ever done that it’s just unbelievable but yeah so we’re keeping an eye on the health of Richardson but it’s also gelani Woods he’s a guy that of course missed all of last season doing an inury that hamstring injury he’s been showing a lot of flashes during camp and OTAs he hasn’t establish himself as the number one option on the depth chart I mean the Colts are carrying what four or five tight ends I mean right now we’re carrying Woods granson Aly Cox mallerie um and I want to say also we still have uh Andrew ogry Drew ogry so we’ve got five tight ends that are trying to compete for reps but Woods to me has been the guy that stood out I mean he’s 6’7 the dude is unbelievably athletic he can go up and get the football I mean he was a former college basketball player so he’s a guy that the Colts are going to need out there he’s going to be a very reliable Target to Richardson we talk about these receivers we’re about to get into ad Mitchell a second but Pitman Pierce downs but what about galani Woods he’s a guy that’s going to be an absolute mismatch nightmare in oneon-one situations for the Colts and we’re hoping that he can stay healthy in terms of the DBS Daniel Scott suffered another SE SE an ending injury in Camp so he’s not going to miss the first two seasons of his career he definitely would have had a starting spot but because of that now we’re going to be relying on potentially Nick cross we’re going to be relying on maybe even a guy like a Rodney Thomas or Rodney Harrison not that they’re the worst players but I mean that’s something that teams could look to exploit in our secondary our secondary last season was bad enough and we’re relying on year two leaps we haven’t brought in any veterans yeah sure Julian Blackman resigned but but Ballard is essentially saying these guys are going to develop and if they do that’s great but if they don’t we’re going to be in serious trouble so I while we’re in the secondary we might as well get into Jaylen Jones and Dallas flowers flowers is coming off of a torn Achilles Jaylen Jones last season showed a lot of promise I do think Jaylen will be one of our outside corners with Juju Brent and of course we’ll have Kenny Moore in the nickel um inside so pretty much that in terms of the secondary um outside of that ad Mitchell is a guy who’s been making plays he hasn’t gone up against the top corners on our roster that often so I think it’s a little bit too early to get ahead of ourselves but he’s a guy that comes into the league as ready as it gets in terms of his route technique he’s shown that he can separate and he’s explosive he’s also insanely fast can go up and catch the football he’s definitely going to open up our offense with Josh DS and Michael Pitman Jr and Alec Pierce has been taking special team reps he’s going to be a deep threat which he’s been since he came here but the thing with Pierce is I’m not writing him off yet because he didn’t have a quarterback that could get him the football right you know Matt Ryan for example gner mchu these guys don’t have big arms Anthony Richardson has a massive arm and if anybody can get pierce the football because he was open a lot last season never got it I mean it’s going to be Richardson so don’t count on Alec Pierce but I’d be lying if I said that I don’t expect ad Mitchell to have already surpassed him on the depth chart and then really outside of that we’re just focused on our strengths and trying to mask our weaknesses so our biggest strength without question is the the pass Rush quiddy p and Samson ukom coming off of career years Grover Stewart’s back bringing in Leu latu was the 14 pick out of UCLA DeForest Buckner still one of the best players in football what can we get out of those guys Doo denbo is a guy that is coming off of a very promising season with eight sacks and then of course tawon Lewis is a very solid backup we’ve got a lot of players that can get after the quarterback but we haven’t had an elite Edge rusher in some time and I’m not saying leat to latu is an elite Edge rusher because he’s a rookie and he’s going to have to develop but he has the potential to be there’s no one else on a roster on the edge that has that potential we’ve got good players we don’t have somebody that’s for example like a Will Anderson Jr who is definitely already an elite player off the edge in terms of stopping the run but he still had like eight sacks at the top of my head you know leulu is a guy that could completely transform our defense linebackers we didn’t do too much this offseason I think we drafted like one linebacker but we’ve got EJ speed and Zyra Franklin I’d love to see sha Lenard come back on a onee maybe vets minimum deal and be here but I don’t think that’s going to happen if it would have it would have happened already uh Juju Bren Nick cross know Kenny Moore Julian Blackman to me this is going to decide our season outside of the health of Anthony Richardson but our secondary man I don’t know how highly I feel of it and just because Chris Ballard said hey look we’re not going to bring in any veterans we’re just going to trust our guys doesn’t mean I’m optimistic because we’ve seen this time and time again with Ballard where he doesn’t address a certain position and then all of a sudden it’s lacking right we’ve seen that time and time again so I do think that if our secondary is bad this season it’s definitely going to put a lot of pressure on Chris Ballard because he’s in charge of the roster and he didn’t give Gus Bradley in this defensive scheme the right amount of talent because the Colts do not like to Blitz we know they like the rush four which is fine but if they’re not able to get home well that’s going to be the thing is the secondary even though yeah you you’re dropping now more guys back into coverage but that’s the thing with latu is I guess the are thinking hey look we’re going to be even better at getting after the quarterback which is only going to help our secondary
