Jakob Markstrom TRADED To The NJ Devils For Kevin Bahl & 1st Rd Pick!

hey everybody Welcome To Hockey skap down before we get into the video I just want to say thank you to all my subscribers if you want to join our hockey team it’s free click subscribe hit the notification Bell to all thank you all so much and let’s get started so the deal became official today Jacob marstrom is a New Jersey Devil with all the rumors that have been going around since the past trade deadline it finally becomes official the Devils have secured their goal tender they wanted and now they have a tandem of Jacob marsham and Allen entering next season which is a huge huge upgrade over what they had last season so I want to talk about the trade how it affects both teams so please stay with me throughout so the New Jersey Devils trade their 2025 first round pick and defenseman Kevin B to the Calgary Flames for goenda Jacob marrom Frank sarelli tweeted out that the Flames will retain 31.25% of markstrom’s salary knocking the a down to 4.125 with the New Jersey Devils which is great uh the pick going to the Calgary Flames is a top 10 protected pick and Calgary avoids uh the July 1st signing bonus with paying Jacob marom so let’s talk about this because it was a trade that went earlier today um it got leaked that the that the Devils have acquired Jacob marsham but the trade details took a while to be released of what was going back to the Calgary Flames and when it became official it was kind of mixed a mixed bag that went around social media a lot of fans were for it a lot of fans were against it on both sides you know the flame fans were expecting more they were expecting that 10th overall pick they were expecting a prospect like Alexander holson to deal but that didn’t happen and I’ve done a lot of videos in the past talking about it it wasn’t going to happen for a 34y old player um on the devil side you know a lot of fans were upset because they gave up a young defenseman who’s big and for a defenseman for a defense that is a bit smaller on the devil’s end they gave up a young bigger defenseman and a first round pick for an older mixed bag again going back and forth but I like the deal I really do the Devils needed to secure good goal tending heading into next season they do that with marstrom uh of course there were other options out there there was allmark there was Soros but you have to think about what the package would have been to acquire a player like that and then to re rework a contract with them going forward it was going to be on the high side so that’s where I like this deal with markstrom if he can play good you know that’s the thing you know he has to play like he’s played the past couple years with the Calgary Flames he’s been a good gold tender he’s put up some good numbers but the thing is as goenda you know the past couple of seasons have been a huge Miss with the Devils when they’re trying to sign goenda they’ve signed them and it never panned out so hopefully with marstrom he’s able to stay healthy play good and you know get us back to the playoffs that’s where you know we’ve upgraded a net we’ve upgraded with our coaching staff and we still have some tinkering to do as the draft comes and free agency opens up but we still have to add some defenseman and forwards where Fitzgerald has said he wants to add and that’s what excited me about this deal cuz we didn’t lose our 10th overall pick we didn’t lose any good prospects so that can go in a trade going forward if Fitzgerald wants to land one of these big pieces going forward it’s still the option’s still there so that’s where the excitement is we have free agency around the corner and getting a marrom could possibly help us land a zadorov or a tanov who you know he was teammates with last season so maybe that can help land one of those players then we help out our defensive core as well so there’s there’s a lot of angles to look at if you’re a Devils fan to be excited about uh there’s still going to be moves that are coming to make the team better I know losing ball sucks he’s a young he was a young big defenseman who had you know a good amount of upside but you know with this they want to build a better defense around Jacob marstrom uh you know playing in front of Jacob marstrom so defense was a huge question mark last year they want to get better and you when you think about that some players have to go out for for other players to come in and ball was at the expense of that so let’s talk about what this means for the Calgary Flames the Calgary Flames get a defenseman Kevin bu who’s 23 years old 66 216 very big uh he’s a 2018 second round pick of the Arizona Coyotes he came to the New Jersey Devils in that teror Hall trade uh his contract expires at the end of the 24-25 season and he’ll be an RFA looking at this past season he played in a full 82 games one goal 10 assists 11 points and over his career he’s played in 148 games four goals 21 assists 25 points so you know when I was looking at how we’re going to upgrade our defense you know there was a couple of names that came to mind it was either going to be Sean ther or Marino or ball that was going to be shipped out and B was the first to get shipped out um not saying the other two are but you never know if the Devils want to really improve defensively they’re going to have to bring in some other pieces as well but with ball he was a big defenseman we don’t have a big defensive core to begin with but he was our biggest guy and but with bald he doesn’t play that overly physical style he’s not like Zadora where he’s going to go out to hit and punish you know he’s a physical player where he plays with an edge he does hit uh but not again not to go out there to lay out the big body check he does at times but not all the time uh he can move the puck you know he’s got some uh some Edge to him so that that’s where with the Calgary Flames losing some defenseman this past year he’ll definitely help in that regard so they get their first round pick un it’s not this year it’s next year and they get their good defenseman a good defensive prospect with Kevin ball so not the best of return but a decent return for the Calgary Flames but looking at the Devil side this this is a good trade for them they don’t give up a ton which you know you would have given up for other goenda pick they still have the option to draft with it or they have that option to trade it out for something an upgrade in another position so you know that really excited me it excited me that they were able to retain some salary on this that’s good uh top 10 pick protected so there’s a lot of things to like about this trade if you’re a devil’s fan so we’ll see what happens uh with this going forward but the Devils have a tandem of marrom and Allen going into next next season which is a good upgrade over last season so comment below what do you think about this trade if you’re a devil’s fan what do you think about this trade if you’re a Calgary Flames fan comment below and let me know thank you all for watching I really appreciate your time smash that like button if you haven’t done so And subscribe to the hockey skate down it’s free and The Trade Has Finally happened, Jakob Markstrom was Traded by the Calgary Flames to the NJ Devils For Defenseman Kevin Bahl & a 2025 1st Rd Draft pick.
This was a trade thats been in the works since last years trade deadline and it finally became official today that the Devils have found their #1 goalie for next season in Markstrom.
There was alot of trade rumors going around about Ullmark, Saros, Gibson but the package going to Calgary made more sense for Tom Fitzgerald and he made it happen.
In this video, I discuss the trade, what it means for both sides and how this could be a good trade for both teams

  1. I am just relieved it's done and over with. I think it was a fair deal on both sides. Bahl was a big defenseman who wasn't physical enough. He will need to develop that more in Calgary to flourish. Hopefully, Fitz can sign Zadorov in free agency.

  2. Like the deal, gonna miss Bahl but live No 10th, No Mercer, No Holtz, and they retained… thats awesome, FitzMagic we def need to get a big D man either trade or FA, focus on backend out…. More moves to come cant wait!!!

  3. Love it , didn’t break the bank or roster and sets up for future moves. Hopefully Marky is a wall as well as Allen. Def a top 6 forward incoming and top 4 physical vet D . I’m just excited to see who . We still have that 10th overall

  4. I like the part about Calgary retaining some salary and I don't think Fitzgerald gave up too much. What he's paying the goalie tandem is insanely great. I think Jacob will be motivated by the move. Now Zadarov please! LFGD đź’Ą

  5. I’m glad the devils got a goaltender that has over a .900 SV% the thing that worries me is that he is older and injuries with older goalies hasn’t been in greatest favor for the devils especially in the goaltender category.

  6. With Rugowski as goaltending coach and Brodeur yelling on national TV that goalies have gone soft and can play more, what can go wrong? I like this deal but note he didn't play over 50 games last season. Part of that may have been because he did not play as much at the end of the season when the Flames petered out of any shot at the playoffs.

I like the deal, Markstrom was 6th amongst starters in GSAE/60 last season, and was once 2nd in Vezina voting. The cap cost is low for a guy like that.

I just enjoy venting about how this franchise has managed goalies, which I think is a valid complaint. If we see him getting ridden like we did Vitek when he had a tweak, Blackwood playing right after surgery, and Daws playing something like 9 starts in a row as a 23 year old last season; I'm going to go ballistic.

  7. This will be Markstroms 16th season. He's a very good goalie and we got a good deal… glad we got the break on the cap hit for the first rounder and we didn't lose the high pick we got this year. But I would consider him a good #2. I don't know what he was promised. But older goalies tend to break down and they get slower. Plus the Devils management has had a habit of making #1's play too many games. Sure Martin was the guy who always wanted to play every game but that type of goalie is rare. I think the Devils should agressively go after a younger #1 type goalie and then one or two rock solid defensemen… hopefully with some hitting and intimidation factor. There is no one on the team right now that can play and fill the enforcer role since we lost Wood. If we don't go after a solid #1 younger goalie, I would consider the Markstrom trade partially a "CYA" move on the part of Fitzgerald.

  8. Kevin Bahl is NOT a player worth crying about losing… We just upgraded our goaltending in a massive way. Hopefully that pick ends up being #32, LGD
