today from his home at this time we’ll open it up to questions just please send me a note in the chat and I will add you to the queue we’ll lead off with Ryan novinski and j.com hey Jacob uh welcome to New Jersey um would you be able to kind of set the scene for us about you know when the trade was finally agreed upon what you were doing things like that uh I think uh you know obviously uh I got a call uh late late uh you know yesterday the saying it was getting close and you know I I kind of been been staying out of it so it was uh you know right before we were going to bed me and my family and uh got the call that it was getting close and then you know I was uh know a little tough to sleep but uh then uh you know this morning um got some paperwork done and uh you know it got finalized uh not too long ago when when everybody woke up over there in North America so I was uh I was just home uh uh running some errands and uh buying some stuff for Swedish Midsummer that’s coming up here this weekend and and what what was kind of the the final factor for you that that you know made you want to move uh wave that no move Clause to to join New Jersey what was kind of the the motivation behind that uh I mean I obviously I I think that the the team has uh something really good going on and you know you look at the players and the the roster and the the skill set and everything they have there and then uh you know obviously they they really wanted they uh you know most of you guys knew they made a they made a push and it was a lot of talk throughout the year last year and uh you know nothing happened there and then uh you know this after the season uh uh you know it kind of picked up again so it was uh you know obviously they they really wanted me to to come and uh it’s uh you know it’s always exciting to to join a group and a team and an organization like New Jersey Devil who who has a lot of history and uh you know I know a bunch of players who play there and and they absolutely love it so can’t wait to to make it my home and and yeah you mentioned there I mean there were reports that that uh link you and and the Devils together for a while now um and there was even one that said that you you waved the no move Clause back a couple months ago was that true and you know do you know what happened to that deal and and I guess how excited are you to get all the rumors and stuff like that in the rear view yeah I mean I’m only going to speak on what’s what’s going on right now and it’s uh I’m I’m super happy and super excited about uh uh you know joining uh joining the devils and uh getting my family to to get over there early this uh this summer and uh get try to get settle in as quick as possible and and get to know everyone and get to know the organization and and the people working in the organization so I only heard good things so I can’t wait to to see it for myself and and last one for me is I mean how how motiv is it for you to to go into a situation where you know it’s a team that’s been really looking for a franchise goalie for for so many years now you know this is a this is a big challenge it’s a it’s a big team with high expectation and they uh you know there’s uh you know as a goal tending position there is there’s pressure and I’ve been in uh you know teams where there there is pressure on go tending and Canadian market and uh you know a few of them so it’s uh you know I know what what’s expected and you know me me as a person too like you know and many other you know reporters and uh people that know me know that I I I just want to Win Hockey games and I wanna you know I’ll I’ll I’ll if we don’t win it’s uh you know I’m I’m the hardest uh criticizer of myself so it’s uh I’m just super happy and stoked about uh going there thanks Jacob thank you before we continue with today’s episode I want to tell you guys about FanDuel and remember the NHL draft is taking place in Sin City in a few days which is once again thank you Ryan our next question go to Peter B of the athletic yeah Jacob it’s uh good to meet you virtually um I know the the last few years in in Calgary was were tough in terms of you said you’d really like to win and and you missed the playoffs and whatever just how important was when kind of waving the the No No move Clause the kind of going to a team where you saw a path to playoff success uh yeah I mean it’s obviously important and it’s so hard you it’s you know in in the NHL you can’t you can’t pick a Stanley Cup winner uh you know the year before I don’t know how many how many you know people had two or two years ago or one year ago had Florida Oilers in the finals but it’s so hard to pick but you know what they have there as a as a team and and I think the organization as well and and how how much good things I heard about the New Jersey Devils it was uh you know I think it’s a it’s it’s a great challenge for me and I you know you know I want to get pushed and I want to be challenged to to perform my best and I think uh I I think uh my best will come out of this for sure thank you Peter our next question go to Steve p and j.com hey Jacob your first game was uh in nework against martan Bor I’m curious what you remember about that night if anything sticks out I remember everything I I think it was uh I got called up right before it and uh uh you know obviously it was uh Marty B was was on the other side just you know staring down staring down on the other end and having him stand there you’re like uh uh you know you get Goosebump thinking about it when I got put in a after the first period to play and uh you know the devil’s had such a great team and uh yeah I think you know Kobalt Chuck and it was uh it was it was was a lot of lot of good memories and it was uh you know it’s uh you know meaning meaning maybe a meaning behind all this and uh you know now for me to be to be able to put that that Jersey on where I where I started my NHL career was was Mark did Marty talk to you that night at all and did you talk to him during this process at all uh no I I got a text from him uh uh you know right after it happened so I’m sure we’ll we’ll catch up and uh you know hopefully I don’t too many questions and to him and I think he’s he’s obviously when you look at everything he’s done for the game and uh yeah the numbers he put up is is unbelievable and one of the best to ever do it so it’s uh it’s huge to have a guy like that in uh you know in in the in the front office and up top and it’s uh you know he uh you know I can’t wait to I can’t wait to see him and meet and talk to him but yeah for sure it’s uh that’s huge I think you want head said hi to me he was to back up that game so he was uh you know for me as a Swedish goalie that was big as well thank you Steve our next question go to Mike moral nhl.com Mike not sure if you’re on mute we will then move ahead to Amanda Stein newjerseydevils.com hi Jacob welcome to New Jersey I just wanted to know first of all do you have any familiarity with players on the team already not really jper brat me and him we uh we worked out a few Summers back uh you know a few times every summer so I saw him saw a little bit he’s he’s down in Stockholm and I’m I’m an hour and a half north of that so but uh you know just Brad I met and then uh uh you know I played with Quinn Hughes when he he was coming up and then uh you know we got we got two pretty good Brothers there as well now so so I’m excited I’m excited to to play with them as well and uh uh but but other than that uh not too many which is uh super exciting for me and it’s you know it’s a it’s a clean slate and it’s you know everything I heard about it uh it’s great and you know I talked to Tool a little bit last year when when he was on the team and he absolutely loved it so it’s uh it’s exciting times uh both for me and me and my family and uh you know I can’t wait to to get get down there when you’re deciding you know when you have that ability to kind of dictate a little bit more what your future is when it comes to your no trade no move Clause what were the important things for you that New Jersey really ticked off that you said yes this is this is the place for me I think yeah you know you always say look at the hockey perspective and uh you know that’s like do you feel like the team can win and and when that’s a yes everything else comes pretty easy and then they uh you know obviously you know New Jersey and Tom really made a push for me and that you know when when somebody wants you to come play for that team it it makes you feel good and you know it doesn’t take take much more more than that for me to to get excited and want to want to jump on the ship and and be a part of it and and hopefully hopefully sail it in the in the right direction do you have and I’m sure you do uh like a a real understanding of how big and how important a piece this was for this team given last year given really the last couple of years that you really are one of those pieces that you know can take this team to what they expect from themselves yeah obviously you know my position is uh is important goal tending is important and and I feel like uh uh you know when you’re playing on other team it’s tough to follow what’s going on you know around the league with with everything but it’s uh you know it’s an important position and I uh you know the the pressure I have on myself is every time you you lace your your skates up you want to win the hockey game you want to be that Difference Maker which is a goalie you have a chance to do that every night and uh I think that uh that challenge uh you know that’s what you know gets me up every morning in the gym and it makes me want to come into the rink and work hard and uh you know try to get better and I still think that I have uh you know I still haven’t reached my uh my my top is is how good I can play I still still feel like I’m learning every day and I uh I feel like this was a this was a great step and finally I’m sure having all this resolved will make Midsummer even better right yeah absolutely there’s H you know family and friends and it’s uh uh obviously easier to take phone calls and and do this uh today and Friday night I’ve done it before so I know what it’s like thanks very much Jacob thank you Jacob I’m sure everyone on this call thanks you for not being on a Friday night we’ll move on to James Nichols New Jersey hockey now hey Jacob welcome to New Jersey um first question for me is just how much do you know about Jake Allen and what do you anticipate um about you know working in tandem with him moving uh moving forward uh don’t I don’t know him uh on a personal level but uh you know I had players uh that I play with and and play with him and uh you know that I you always ask about what the goalie is and and then obviously we’re the we’re with the same draft and I think I think we were pick 31 and 32 if I’m not mistaken uh he was going to St Louis and I went to Florida but uh it’s it’s exciting I got a got a text from him uh text text from him already and uh you know I’m excited I think uh you know throughout my career it’s important that you know you know both goalies push each other and enjoy each other’s uh you know battle with each other and uh you know you that’s that’s how you build and you uh you become a better goalie but and you know that’s on and off the ice of uh uh making the team better too to to work together and and I think you know Jake is a great goalie and uh you know I can’t wait to to work with him and uh and and uh try to win as many games as possible and you know playing for the flames you you did play against you know Sheldon ke a rival there uh in the Maple Leafs what do you anticipate you know about about playing for a guy like him now as opposed to seeing him across the ice yeah I’m you know I’m excited I uh you know obviously he was in in Toronto for for a long time and he he you know that was a tough team to play against and you know both system wise and you know skill-wise but I think system wise and uh you know how they play the game and I think that you know obviously comes from from up top and coaching and uh it’s uh you know important to have that and I think that he can uh you know he can help the team and uh you know help myself to to become better and you know he he can push me to to to perform and uh you know I’m sure he has high standards and uh you know he expect the best from everybody every body both in you know not only in games but in practice as well last one from me uh Nolan Footwear is number 25 you plan on bribing him to take that number I didn’t even look that up yet but uh yeah we’ll see uh we’ll see what happen I might have have depends how expensive it is thanks Jacob thanks thanks James our next question go to salum Val of TSN hey Jacob uh good to see you man um can you just like walk me through the past few months like like how tricky is it for an athlete on a human level when you know you’re seeing stuff out there that might not be accurate that might be accurate like how tricky is it to deal with that and focus on the game like like as a human being how how challenging was that for you uh I mean it’s I don’t know it’s it’s uh it’s tough to explain I think when you were on like when I was on the ice it was the easiest time of the day almost uh and then uh you know it’s it’s frustrating when you see and read uh stuff that are incorrect and not true and and you almost want to you know whatever you want to give that person a call you want to post something and you wna you want to get involved with it but it’s you know you can’t really do it and and I just try to let it uh you know water off my back and kind of kind of not not put any thought to it but it but it is tricky for sure especially when uh when you read and see and you hear some uh you know something that’s not accurate but it’s it’s a it’s you know it’s a public public job and it it’s it’s really part of it and I you know my my feelings and uh you know stuff I say I always you know I wear my heart on my sleeve and and I try to be you know you try to be as professional as possible and then you know sometimes you you kind of get tired and you say something from emotions instead of you know calculated which you know I prefer to be but you know that’s just me as a person and uh uh but but I have to say I I appreciate everything you know Calgary Calgary done done for me the past few four years and U you know teammates has has been unbelievable and the city has been unbelievable and the fans have treated me with so much respect throughout the this whole whole journey so you know with uh but but it’s uh yeah it’s different for sure and then just what was your conver what were your conversations like with Craig Conroy during this process like we be at the exit interview or or after that like what what role did what what was your relationship with Craig uh during this whole process you know Craig’s uh is is an unbelievable guy like you know and he uh uh you know for me too I you know it’s it’s a difficult position but I you know I have a I have an agent who who I trust and you know kind of let him do most of the talking for me and just you know that started last year and just let me play hockey with which uh you know that helps and then uh I I got off the phone Connie called me right when it it was done today and uh you know wish me good luck so there’s uh there’s no bad blood there and then last one for me just how do you look back at your four years in Calgary you’re among leaders in a few categories franchise wise like how do you sum up your time uh in Southern Alberta you know it’s uh you know my my son is born there I think that’s uh you know obviously the biggest biggest thing I will remember but also you know the the playoff run we had and you know that whole season how you know how good we were as a team I I think that’s you know you know you you we won almost every game it felt like and you can lose and that that that’s a feeling that I that I want to have again thanks a lot man good luck thank you than next question go to Julian McKenzie of the athletic hey Jacob can you hear me yeah hey Jacob um first question for you can you sum up what it was like to go through this past year in Calgary where in addition to you going through the speculation that was out there you had a handful of teammates who were also going through the same thing and ultimately a lot of them ended up leaving uh I mean it’s it’s tough to sum it up and in in a you know Quest question answer form it’s uh but it’s uh you know it’s everybody says it but it but it really is part of the you know it’s it’s part of being a professional hockey player and especially in the NHL and it’s a it’s a business and uh you know there’s so many variation of things that uh that play a part and it’s not not just you know what happened on the ice it’s it’s so much so much more and bigger than than ourselves so I think it’s tough to sum up but it’s uh you know it was uh it was a lot of people obviously leaving Calgary uh last season and it was a lot of speculation and talks about trades throughout the season on on a lot of players um there was a lot of speculation with with New Jersey over the last few months I don’t know if this question’s been asked already but was New Jersey the only team you you wanted to be traded to how does that process work with the no movement Clause uh I mean it was kind of uh um you know this was a trade that Calgary calary Calgary liked and wanted to do and uh you know there was there was more teams interested but I think you know Calgary made this trade and uh it’s not like it was a a one team that said it was Calgary wanteded this team and then obviously you know I I had the last say with the no move clause and when when they agreed on a deal with Jersey I I you know super excited to to start this journey uh to just is more of a clarification so if another team had been mentioned and the deal was fine would you have been okay with that I mean it all depends you can always speculate I think uh you have to you know see you know talk about what happened and this is what happened New Jersey Calgary likeed the deal that New Jersey gave them and uh you know I’m I’m happy with it so here we are now and you know I’m a New Jersey Devil and you know and my family couldn’t be happier for sure um and the last one for you do you have any any message you want to you want to send to uh the Calgary Flames fans yeah for sure I you know the love and support that I got from them not only in the Saddle Dome but you know going out you know shopping or eating at restaurants and you know it was it was so easy to to live in Calgary and move on in the City of Calgary because the people there are are you know they’re amazing people and they passionate and you know so am I and if you had a bad few bad games you will you will stay inside just to to make it easier on them no but the the people there and you know the neighbors and and everybody in the in the neighborhood that we lived uh you know was awesome so U you know obviously thank you thank you to them and sure I’ll send a message out here for to to all of them as well all the best to your New Jersey Jacob thank you for your time yeah thank you I appreciate it thank you Julian we’ll go back to Mike moral NH .c Pete can you hear me yeah oh awesome all right thank thanks Pete hi Jake welcome to Jersey thanks for taking the time uh Jake uh how are you doing healthwise and what’s the game plan right now will you come to Jersey to train before Camp uh you staying in calary what’s the plan uh I’m in Sweden right now so I’ll uh I’ll be here for you know uh until you know a we haven’t really thought about it but maybe you know middle of August or or early August I don’t know uh I don’t really know what’s uh what what the plan is uh since it’s uh you know obviously this just happen so uh but we’re going to sit down the family and uh you know try to plan and see see what the best but I’ll be there uh a month or so before you know training camp starts to to try to try to get used to everything and try to get to know everyone and you know meet everyone from from staff to players and and all the all the people that work there has uh has coach Sheldon Keefe reached out to you text or call uh I haven’t talked to him yet I haven’t seen the text the phone has been blowing up and uh you know I wanted to to do this as quick as I could and uh you know after I uh I talked to to Tom and he welome me to the team so it’s uh you know it’s it’s exciting times and uh you know I’m sure when when everything calms down here and last one Jake uh how big are you into analytics when it comes to playing the position uh I’m not that big into it but you know I like stopping Puck so if it’s uh you know I like wins those are I think that’s the the stat that I that I like and that I want I want I want dou use sounds good thanks a lot Jake thank you thank you Mike our next question go to Sebastian noren NHL International all glowy Sumer I should say first and foremost Jake uh I just wanted to say if you’ve had a chance to talk to Yas brat or Alexander Holtz yet and if so what did they tell you about your your new team I haven’t talked to them yet so I’m uh you know I’m expecting a lot of lot of free dinners and homecooked meal from them and you know uh you know Holtz is is pretty young so maybe he can he can he can babysit as well so it’s uh you know few think I few things I expect from them but no I I haven’t talked to them but uh you know I’m I I’ll when everything settles I I’ll get to talk to to everyone awesome thank you thanks thank you Sebastian our next question in Swedish we go to Anton Johansson from often [Music] blot
