Chicago Bears With and Without Teven Jenkins || Contract Value
what would a contract extension look like for big Tevin Jenkins today I want to give a little Advanced breakdown of his play talk about how much he is worth and whether or not I think he will sign longterm with the Chicago Bears let’s go ahead and get right into it guards are getting paid more and more now so first I want to note that Ryan poles knows the worth of a good guard in the National Football League and how important can be to keep them around to protect a Young quarterback when Ryan poles was in Kansas City he shelled out 20 million a year to sign free agent guard Joe thuny steal him away from the New England Patriots and make him at the time the highest paid guard in football he also shelled out $30 million for Nate Davis last year and traded a fifth round pick for Ryan Bates this off season but considering that he was in the front office that signed Joe thuny and made him the highest paid guard in the NFL a couple years later that almost looks like a value contract now as thuny has now fallen to only the ninth highest paid guard in the league and Ryan poles was a part of that decision showing that he values guards but also that he knew that that was going to be a value contract long term sort of like his contract with Cole KT which is turning out to be an absolute still but the fact that Ryan poles was in the chief’s front office when they they lured thuny away from the New England Patriots with a big contract in free agency shows how much he values the guard position dy’s PFF grades and snaps per pressure are very similar to that of Tevin Jenkins the biggest difference is thuny was reliable and had five straight seasons of Starting All 16 games in the league when he signed with the Chiefs as a free agent he had not missed a game in the NFL and since signing that deal he started 17 15 and 17 games for the Chiefs only missing two starts since getting paid and that right there is the biggest issue with Kevin Jenkins staying healthy and that’s what makes it so hard to determine how much he’s worth so to me his worth is largely tied to how he performs on the field this season he missed 10 games as a rookie and six starts in each of the last two seasons missing 22 total games in three years and only starting 24 that’s right he’s started 24 games and he’s missed 22 games in three years he’s actually missed more time than he’s played that is tev’s biggest issue and now Ryan poles is going to be in put in a tough situation no matter what happens on the field this season if tev plays similarly what he did last year where at times he looks like our best offensive lineman but he misses extended time with an injury again polls is going to have a hard time giving him any kind of big money extension but that’s where this situation gets even more tricky and harder to predict because what if tev finally does put it all together this season and he plays 17 games and makes a pro bowl you can’t just let him walk at that point can you but at that point he’s probably going to get over a hundred millionar in free agency because two guards got paid 100 million this year and if tev made a pro bowl I could see a team paying him that and I don’t know if I’m comfortable paying him quite that much it all depends on what tev does on the field this year but let’s compare what the Chicago Bears look like over the last two seasons with and without Kevin Jenkins on the field now this is while the team was rebuilding and we were not winning many games either way but there was a clear difference when tev was on the field and when he wasn’t last year in 11 games with tev we went six and five without tev we were one and five only winning one game all season without tev and Jenkins in 2022 we were two- seven with tev and one and seven without tev and even the one win we got that I counted as without tev he still started that game but got hurt and didn’t finish it it was the Texans game in week three last year I put that as a game without tev but he did start that game so the Bears didn’t win a single game that Kevin Jenkins didn’t start in 2022 and they are 2 and 12 without him and one and 12 if you don’t count that win I just mentioned on top of that they’ve just played better football overall with Tevin Jenkins on the football field in the 12 losses they have with Tevin Jenkins seven of those were close games and most finished by one score or less and are 12 losses without t Jenkins though it’s a different story five of them were blowout losses where we lost by three scores or more meanwhile in games that Tevin Jenkins has started and finished we’ve only been blown out by that kind of score one time and it was to the Jets in 2022 a game where Trevor Simeon started and the defense let Mike White have a career day by throwing three touchdowns if you’re asking yourself whether or not we should resign Tevin Jenkins the bottom line is the Bears are much better with Kevin Jenkins on the team he is worth paying I would try to work out an extension with him early cuz if he stays healthy all year his value is going to go through the roof I understand you don’t want to give him too much money before he proves he can stay healthy but if he stays healthy for one season does that really prove he can stay healthy every year not really but it will significantly raise his value so to me I would rather resign teev Jenkins right now but let’s talk about that now what is the timeline for teevin Jenkins extension with his injury history and how much guards are getting paid I actually do not expect the deal to happen soon this will come down to Tevin Jenkins staying healthy and taking a step forward on the football field in 2024 if that happens I believe Ryan poles would work hard to bring teevin back on a long-term deal although there is a possib ility he could let Kevin Jenkins and Keenan Allen walk next year and finally start Landing the Bears some compensation picks but another point after the season we could also cut Nate Davis and save around 8 million in cap space which we could then use towards pay Kevin Jenkins and then have Ryan Bates slide right into the Right Guard spot if he hadn’t already does signing Tevin Jenkins to a long-term extension does that mean losing Nate Davis this one I would probably say yes to I don’t see any way we pay big money to Kevin Jenkins without letting Nate Davis go next year Unless somehow both of them started all 17 games this year and then our offensive line is in just great shape but I’m not living in that fantasy world right now I really don’t see Ryan poles paying Nate Davis $12 million next season even if he does bounce back this year his contract was always backloaded with a potential out in year three and if teevin Jenkins steps up this year that’s just money we can use towards reigning him so far to me Nate Davis has not earned the third year of his extension and honestly unless he has a huge year it’s hard to Envision polls paying him that much money next year with such an easy out in the contract but especially if Tevin Jenkins has a big year and needs to get paid but on the opposite end of the spectum there if somehow Kevin Jenkins struggles this year and Nate Davis is our best guard which isn’t out of the realm of possibility then Ryan poles probably would just let Kevin Jenkins walk and keep Nate Davis on the roster but at the end of the day I think the Bears are a better football team with Kevin Jenkins in the starting lineup the biggest issue is getting him to stay healthy but I’m rooting for tev to have a huge year and stay in Chicago long term let me know what you guys think tev is one of my personal favorite players on the roster shout out to Big tev appreciate everybody who watches remember to hit that like button for me and until next time Bear Down

Let them test the waters in free agency and see if Poles can match or do better.
If only George Halas could see what he started.
This year will tell the tale. He plays well when he is healthy but if he can't come to work then he can't get paid. I would not pay him yet. If all these new players play well in the skill positions then Poles should be able to concentrate some resources on the O Line finally. Go out and get some quality proven linemen.
Tev knows it is make or break this season and he is really focused on keeping his body healthy. Really want Tevin to be a not just a long term Bear, but a leader on the O line. Nate can skate, see ya.
Tev is a dawg when healthy but he’s hurt every year
I hope and pray to God that Tevin stays healthy and gets paid. He is a beast when he’s healthy. He’s the nastiest lineman we’ve had since Olin Kruetz. 🐻⬇️
Id go lower base salary but big play time bonuses. Dudes a freaking beast, one of the best in the league, when hes on the field.
it will be a long season if Nate davis ends up being our best guard
The only issue is availability. Pass blocking check, run blocking check, domination at the line check. He literally checks every other box.
I’m not paying him big money until he proves he can be on the field for the majority of the season…. If he can’t be that guy then he can take what we give him or look for a better offer.
Give us your updated opinion if we sign Connor Williams
Missing 22 games over 3yrs is entirely too much to consider anything long term let him walk draft G wit 2 2nd rd picks next year
This is a brilliant video!
This is the stuff I love.
Great Job Swifty! 🐻⬇️
tev is interesting, sadly people just seem unable to get over that first year, he had a known back issue coming into the draft that may or may not have needed surgery. me personally I knew it was coming and wasn't surprised when the news came down in camp. Tev is a physical mauler, that playstyle comes with drawbacks and injuries are the cost of doing business sadly. That however is true for most Oline positions ie another favorite of mine Trent Williams love him but the man hasn't played a full season in over a decade and even when in games dealt with nagging injuries to his thumb , ankle etc., that didn't stop him from pulling down 20 mill a year. I do find it slightly hilarious that some people outside of this group are raging on tev but want conner williams. Now don't get me wrong I like williams but it's kinda the pot calling the kettle black in terms of their respective injury rapp sheet.
Bro, Teven is still like a big kid… But this is the year he plays a full season and shows up to his potential – All-Pro. 🐻 👇 Good problem for Poles!
Kap, they have 37 wins. That’s 44 from getting to 81 to be .500. With 84 to play. They would have to play .520 the rest of the year to break even. It’s not impossible but improbable. Factor in the Hoyer effect, they won’t do anything to help this team (hello, Miles Mastrobuoni??) Makes it very improbable. 🐻⬇️ !!!
Honestly, I think we should move on from Tevin. Trade him.
To be fully transparent I’m a ok state fan and really like Jenkins. I still remember his coming to the defense of Fields on a late hit and the Bears fellow lineman getting in his face about it. Tevin’s attitude and playing ability has been one of the best for the Bears. Pace and Nagy abused him his rookie year trying to make him play despite his back injury to save face. That said he has had availability issues. And even with that he’s been a better player than Davis. So if he’d sign a team friendly two year deal then see what happens I’d be all for it.
In the NFL, the best ability is availability
If Tev stays healthy he could also be a trade candidate at the midseason point. Even if he stays healthy can you trust that going forward with a big contract?
