the pick is in and the Vegas golden knights have made a selection in the 2024 NHL draft I’m Gil Martin we are joined by Chris garc from lockon Vegas golden KN to Break Down The Pick of Trevor Connelly with the number 19 selection presented by indeed there is no I in team but there is one in indeed and that’s the hiring platform you need to build yours to upgrade your job post at indeed.com locked on so Chris your thoughts on Trevor Connelly being the first pick by the golden knights this year um I called it first of all that in our lock on Mock Draft so uh a little bit of luck there but this has a vgk situation written all over it I want to make sure I’m a little careful with that because there is some some history with this player I guess I’m just going to leave it there and we’ll move on but the golden knights back in the 2019 draft pton Krebs Payton Krebs suffers an injury where I believe he gets a torn Achilles in just a freak accident on the ice not long before the draft Peyton Krebs was projected top six top eight something like that falls down to the Vegas golden knights at 17th overall obviously there’s recovery and you know the rest is history as he became a major piece in the Jack eel deal for the Vegas golden knights so you have a similar situation where players stock value dropped Vegas gold Knights saw upside so here we go and how do you feel about you know based on the reasons that his uh stock dropped do you think he’ll be okay uh going forward I mean it’s it’s a very tough situation to address beyond the fact that people grow people learn people go through Rehabilitation you know I mean not going to compare it to you know us doing things we wish we could take back when we were younger and a little less informed but maybe that is the type of situation and you look to the Future and not the past what does he bring on the ice that excites you um we’ll see I mean it’s going to be a while till we probably see him on the ice I think he might stay in school for another year possibly is what I’ve been hearing we’ll see if he winds up um taking a shot with the golden knights or not left wi we’ll see if the golden knights might need a Replacements a big uh score for Jonathan marcha so we’ll see how that situation plays out but I mean listen 52 games played in the USHL with the Tri City storm 78 points those are some pretty impressive numbers and numbers like that do transfer over to NHL talent and this kid could be ready sooner than later you just you just never know and is there one thing you think he needs to work on to get NHL ready trust character make sure everyone knows that what he did in his past is not a reflection of his current and Future character all right well for more on the Vegas golden night subscribe to locked on vgk on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast and for more on Trevor connley let’s get an inside look on his path to the NHL Trevor Conley’s got a lot of question marks around this game but is there a chance he slips out of the first round I’m hady calash from lockedown ining Shell prospects ready to give you the breakdown Conley’s a 6 foot 60 PB left shot Winger who played for the Tri City storm in the US HL he scored 31 goals and added 47 assists for 78 points in 52 games this year and his skill is off the charts he’s one of the best stick handlers in the draft with the edge workk to beat any defender in so many different ways he’s got a hard shot and he can dish the puck around really well but I have questions with how much he can develop his ability to play incrementally rather than just throw everything at the slot the office concerns are long documented and fairly concerning but I don’t think he’ll be passed over 32 times I don’t even think he’ll get past over 20 times he’s got a lot of Jordan cyu in his game and if he learns from his past he’ll be an amazing NHL forward for more on Conley and all things NHL draft follow And subscribe to locked on NHL prospects on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast and for continuing coverage of the 2024 NHL draft subscribe to locked on NHL on YouTube wherever you get your podcast it’s part of the lockon podcast Network your team every day
