How Bruno Caboclo changed the Raps, Paul George to Sixers, Hartenstein to OKC

welcome to pire basketball live to those of you who are with us for the 7h hour live stream last night that went absolutely nowhere the free agency entire NBA free agency broke open a four-year deal for Paul Paul George we’re going to talk about that later but right now we got to talk about what the Toronto Raptors are doing and how much what they’re doing today is rooted in a philosophy that they got wrong 10 years ago with Bruno kaboko now to anyone who is curious to check this out later there’s a very beautiful article by the ringer which finally exposes the entire truth of how the Tron Raptors shocked the world 10 years ago when they selected Brazilian forward Bruno kaboko whom half the world half the NBA world had never heard of or most the NBA world had never heard of I think 80% of Scouts and general managers analysts were caught off guard Yours Truly included when the Raptors decided to draft Bruno now of course Bruno has become one of my favorite international players currently playing for partisan over in Serbia but today we stand just days removed from the Toronto Raptors selecting urish shamsh or urish shamsh uh with the 57s pick I’m going to talk about how the philosophy has changed how they learned from past errors and why perhaps what the tronto Raptors are doing right now has never been closer or more aligned with what Messiah uy has always wanted to do Jacob Isaac saying I think Ur shamsh is going to be a player man let’s talk about it okay so I promise you at some point in this live we are going to get into the general philosophy of what the Tron Raptors do so we’re going to talk about Bruno kaboko what the Raptors got wrong why the Raptors do this under Messi jury what the overall philosophy is and currently what the roster looks like because I think the Tron Raptor roster is shaping up to be a bit of an underrated gem there are some players that they have drafted and taken in that I think are going to be a little bit better than people think they are and maybe even better than I initially thought they were and you know again as things happen we react we think about it we sit on it we reflect we research we talk to other people and hopefully we don’t cope we don’t loot ourselves we don’t Gaslight ourselves we just come to a slightly more informed and balanced perspective with a little bit of time so let’s start with Bruno kaboko see Bruno kaboko was the last mystery man if you want to check out the ringer article I’ve linked it in the description below because it was a very informative read at 4:00 a.m. last night and I thought it was great and I can’t believe I missed this article effectively the Toronto Raptors had spotted Bruno and they had kept him hidden from the the world this was not uncommon at the time all throughout the ’90s and the early 2000s it was not uncommon for a team to discover a player at the juo level or overseas or in some obscure country and then sort of subtly suggest to the team’s coach to hide the player or not expose them too much not ask for too many general managers to go and check it out right now in the age of over digitalization everyone can see everybody there’s obviously if you wanted to know who URI shamsh was see a little bit of his strengths and weaknesses you didn’t have to go to basketball cat uh Africa Academy you didn’t have to go to Cameroon to see him you could look on YouTube you could probably access their scouting services that are high high a cost scouting Services that’ll have all of his possessions broken down so everyone has access now so the leveling of the playing field has been to the detriment of slothy Scouts and when I say Lucy Scouts I’m talking about guys like Masai jurri uh who who cut his you know apart from being a player overseas eventually cut his chops as a scout and you can really tell when a general manager president has a scouting background because typically the organization has a great um Michael Fano saying um 3 years 27 for Jaylen Smith to the Bulls we’ll talk about that we’ll talk about free agency right after we get through this bear with me because again story over everything that is our uh Film Festival Penance Film Festival that’s our motto and frankly story over everything should be the motto of just about every single thing I do because I do believe the stories matter and I think that the story of what the Tron Raptors are doing is just as important if not more important than the individual minutia and the individual transactions of what they’re doing so when the Toronto Raptors found Bruno kaboko there were one or two other teams that were Vaguely Familiar with him or of him there was of course players like um at the time Leandro Barbosa who was very familiar with him um Jacob is is saying you’ve been going hard my boy I appreciate it thanks a lot thanks a lot for the Super Chat appreciate you and there were the Indiana Pacers and basically nobody else and so it’s a three-way competition right now for the Raptors L shamsh there was a 30 team competition everyone was aware of him he was mocked he was you know people were aware of him so now you got to go one layer deeper in that okay everyone’s aware of him what’s our Competitive Edge what’s our competitive Advantage do we have a unique insight into him have we dug deeper into him do we know more about him this is all a matter of edging the field in your favor you’ve always got to find that right do we have a unique program do we have a unique development coach the Oklahoma City are the masters of winning on the margins because not only have they employed two of the best Scouts in the world Bar None they also have the best shooting coach in the NBA which means they are often able to take on non-shooting prospects and make them into a really good Shooters look at what they saw with Kayon Wallace last year not that he was a non-shooter but they made him into a really light out shooter so again you’re looking at that across the board and you’re seeing Case by case teams that are doing this well are going to thrive teams that are not doing this well are not going to thrive now the Toronto Raptors in my opinion their success as much as people want to talk about their Championship five years ago I believe their Championship is owed partly to what they got wrong with Bruno kaboko now if you all remember Bruno kaboko was a Messi jury Pet Project he was very hopeful about him how hopeful it were so hopeful about him that in order to Aid his transition over to Canada they ended up trading for Lucas Nera you know babay Nera to have a guy who could help him transition over it’s not the only reason obviously babay fit a lot of his Prospect needs he was a 16th pick by the Atlanta Hawks at the time but I do believe that various times throughout Raptor history the Raptors have gambled on an international project tried to perfect the process of making that process smooth and you know with the Raptors you know when they picked Andrea barani you know at the first overall pick in 2006 there were two moves that were immediately made to make sorry three moves that were immediately made to make that transition easier they hired Mauricio gadini they brought in uh Jorge garbajosa and they brought in um rashan esterich and again this is an important step when you draft a young player to Aid in that young player’s development with vets who can help them out and ease the transition but the one thing they were missing with Bruno kaboko was they didn’t have the 95 in a lot of ways very many NBA People Credit Bruno kaba’s failure with the development of the 95 now what came of the 905 Fred Van Bon Pascal se yakum you don’t want a championship without Fred Van Bon Pascal SE yakum right now Fred vanet and Pascal SE yakum over the last two offseasons sorry this offseason and last offseason have signed a combined 94 95 9697 million uh annual average contracts and that is largely due to the work of the 905 I I’m convinced that those two players simply do not develop because again you’re a winning organization so they came into a winning organization you have winning habits you had winning Scouts you had winning coaches you had good development staff in place you had a good shooting program and you made these players better you developed them you developed them until you were ready to extract value from them the Raptors were getting actual value from Fred Van and Pascal seak on their rookie contract Bruno kaboko was supposed to be so much more for the Toronto Raptors than he ended up becoming right and part of the reason it didn’t get that way is they didn’t have the clearest path for him now according to the article much of the rumors were that anyone else who was going to take him was probably going to leave him overseas for 3 years the Tron Raptors decided no we’re going to bring him over right away and that’s probably a mistake and the Raptors haven’t employed the draft and stash method they always prefer to develop themselves however if you’re going to develop a player it helps to have a program and if you’re going to have a program it helps to have a culture and individuals within that culture who are leading that culture and this is where I believe the Tron Raptors fell apart under Nick nurse so say what you will about Nick nurse being involved with the Raptors that did it right when he was heading the program the Raptors did not do it right Delano Banton um you could also argue of course that in order to preserve their Championship Allure and core that they often traded away first round picks I believe that the period from 2018 to 2021 this three-year period in which the Raptors lost draft picks and then getting Scotty Barnes by tanking and then another two years after that where they traded multiple first round picks I believe that this period of five or six years effectively set the Raptors back plus Tampa plus the co year I think it set the Raptors back five years I believe half a decade and that is a direct quote lifted from M jury saying Tampa set us back half you know half a decade I didn’t understand it at the time I completely understand it now the 905 is so important the 905 has not been great lately hopefully that will change but the Toronto Raptors did not forget how to scout they simply lacked the means to acquire the players they didn’t have the assets they didn’t have the time and frankly didn’t have the Personnel in place to develop these guys now you have a guy like UL sham Shay coming into the Tron Raptors you have Jamal shed you have Jonathan mobo and you have jacobe Walter plus you have Emanuel quickley RJ Barrett Scotty Barnes Grady dick consider these variables upon variables upon variables by the way the Chon Raptors are not done right now and we will talk about that as well the reason I believe the Raptors are done with Gary Trent and it just he does not fit this vision of what you’re trying to do so what are you trying to do what is it that you’re actually trying to do what are you trying to accomplish here you are trying to become a farm all right you’re a farm you’re planting seeds right you’re just throwing seeds and you’re hiring staff to adequately take care of these plants as they grow some of these seeds are going to be lemons they’re not going to grow into [ __ ] but some of them are going to blossom into beautiful beautiful crops and at some point you’re going to be able to pick them and trade them that’s the whole point here this is not complicated it is extremely complex but it’s not complicated what the Toronto Raptors are trying to do they are at an inherent disadvantage Canadians don’t want to hear this on a Canada day but we know that the Tron raptors have not historically been a huge free agent draw unless and we know that this is not a market that is necessarily going to be sympathetic to tanking year after year there are various ways to do this I believe the Tron raptors have found the perfect way to do it and I do believe that the proof is in the pudding because they’ve done it once before Messi jury’s quote that when somewhat viral on his own story Instagram was some people thought this crazy African what’s he talking but we’re going to win and I tell you we’re going to win again a lot of people think that’s political speech but I think the Raptors have a process of winning it’s not the perfect process obviously the OKC slender have an even better process but I believe in the East among the Eastern Conference teams when I’m looking around at the other teams in the East and what they’re doing I think the Raptors might be ahead of most teams in the east in terms of what they’re doing long term obviously the Boston Celtics are the creme de La Creme right now if you look past the Boston Celtics I think the Orlando Magic doing a great job the Atlanta Hawks might soon be doing a very good job but the process is very simple you Scout well you draft well you develop well you manage your assets and you you manage timelines and windows that’s all it is so right now the Toronto Raptors have a core a core which includes Scotty Barnes extended five years uh he’s on the he’s on he’s under a book for six years okay I don’t know if he’s going to demand a trade at some point but for now Scotty Barnes the contract is a six-year window from now until he is an unrestricted free agent Emanuel quickle five years RJ Barrett three years Grady dick you have him under team control for like the next eight years years right jacobe Walter you have them under control for like the next n years right so this core if it works out if it blossoms it’s great but it doesn’t have to be this Emanuel quickley and RJ Barrett may not be on this team when the Raptors win their next championship in fact I’m pretty sure one of those guys won’t be on this team when the Raptors win their next championship I hope Scotty Barnes is on this team when the Raptors win their next championship Maybe he’s not maybe he becomes more dear than Kyle maybe he becomes more Kyle than Kawai we don’t know and that’s the whole point when you do this you must factor in for your own ignorance to some extent that’s why you take multiple shots at it you have to be aware that you cannot stake everything on uru shamsh turning into Rudy goar or sergy Baka you have to believe that there is a there is just as much chance just as much chance that jacobe Walter as a player turns into more of a Delon Wright level player than he does a demard de R Roan type player you have to know that you have to account for the fact that there is going to be human error here and that not all these players are going to work out but guess what here’s the beautiful part when you take this many stabs you don’t need all of them to work out if you follow us on Instagram there was a beautiful thing that I was looking at last night and it was Roger Federer one of the greatest tennis players of all time talking about how to be successful and it was really beautiful and I posted a story after that which was also about tennis success let me take a one minute detour into the philosophy of winning Roger Federer talks about how he won 80% of his matches but let me ask you a question to those of you who don’t follow this on Instagram what percentage of points do you think that Roger Federer won I’m talking points as in like if you’ve played tennis you know serve double fault you lose the point you get the point what percentage of points do you think Roger feder actually won any guess I mean if he’s great he definitely won more than 50% of his points but no idea 54% Roger Federer one of the greatest tennis players of all time only won 54% of his points ah this was so close 55% no it’s 54% which means and and as he as he said when you lose almost half the points you learn not to focus on that the second story that I posted was very poetic in which they did a scientific study about what separated the top 25 tennis players from the top five tennis players any guesses on that it was basically the thought that you had after you failed what do you think what comes to your mind after a setback it wasn’t Talent it was not hair flow quality thanks a lot for the troll there it was not Talent it was not height it was nothing it was not genetics it was the thought that you had immediately after a setback after you were down what was your thought what was your process of dealing with a negative outcome Bruno kaboko was a negative outcome the Toronto Raptors leaned harder into perfecting the process they did not give up and completely reroute the ship Pascal cakam is very different than D Koko but in a lot of ways if you had drafted Pascal SE yakum at 18 years old if he was physically more athletic and gifted or whatever if you had drafted Pascal look people clowned br K all the time he had a lot in common with yumo it wasn’t just about the height and the length or whatever it actually had a lot to do with um it had a lot to do with just how raw these players were yeah it’s exactly it it’s the mentality clutch Tatum saying real winners look at a setback as a lesson and try to back and try to get back as soon as they can frauds put their head down and wait for their savior to some extent yes but ultimately what it comes down to is is your thought positive or negative how do you convert a negative outcome into a positive thought see after a tennis player loses a point or loses a match or loses a Wimbledon after a player like Luca donich loses the finals when you go into the summer what is your thought when you lose game two what’s your thought if your thought is we’re sunk we’re dead it’s all over if you’re wired negative your outcome will eventually be negative if you’re positive if you think we get a next G it’s just a game we’re going to be POS it’s such a transformative thing and that is ultimately the shift between the top five players and the top 25 players because it’s not physique at that point it’s not Talent it’s mentality that’s the difference Michael Jordan is not completely different from a Kobe Bryant it’s not completely different from Dwayne Wade it’s not completely different from a Kevin Durant or a Devin Booker or whoever you want to talk about you know like all the greatest players they’re separated by mere inches when it comes to Talent what separated his mentality Michael Jordan did not get down after losing a game he got up Michael Jordan get down after being down two down four what I really admire about the tronto Raptors right now is they seem to be piling on players who have this mentality of don’t get down on yourself don’t beat yourself up get up do it next there are a couple players on this team that do match the description of the opposite type hopefully they will get better I think RJ Barrett for instance is is a player who is often very hard on himself and can spiral a little bit when things are going bad but let’s hope that he’s 23 he can get better at that but Scotty Barnes is the ultimate Optimist man he’s not a person who gets down on himself all the [ __ ] that he went through in year or two trust me he continued to work it never it never shattered him and you’re going to take on the personality of your best player anyway in a basketball team in a basketball setting darkov rakovich same way ultimate Optimist man like team is like going 30 31 players coming onto your team you got jonte Porter Scandal darko’s just like let’s see what we can learn today that’s the perfect attitude for this right Dak Canadian saying a change a chain is only as strong as its weakest length same could be said for teams yeah absolutely so what I think the tronto Raptors is doing right now is between Jonathan mobo you know I mean here’s a good way to look at it as prospects as prospects in 2016 how favorably would you compare Fred bble and Pascal SE yakum to Jamal shed and ID Kay how close is this this as prospects not as players not as future values whatever as prospects I mean I take 22-year-old Fred vanley and 21-year-old Pascal sakam put him in the gym against Jamal shed and Ur shamsh what’s the score two on two is it close are you looking at it as a competitive game so now the only goal is to understand what is the underlying motivation with these two players Jamal shed wired with the same stuff that Fred ble was does he have the same doggedness to work cut his teeth as a third Stringer move himself up to a second Stringer exactly right urri shamsh is a great example of raw he is raw as hell but he’s a better player at 18 than Pascal yakum was I’ll tell you that I saw I saw a tape of Pascal se yakum you know when he was 18 19 years old he don’t look any much better and he’s a lot smaller so you know you have a chance here it’s not it’s not a great chance I mean I would put the odds that to achieve the outcome of Fred and Pascal at less than 2% right but the idea is the same you take a lot of shots and what I said earlier about being humble and realizing that not all of your pet projects are going to work out I think that’s a lesson they learned with Bruno kaboko right is not always going to work out but you never know if you drafted SE yakum in 2014 in place of kaboko and had no development Reps for him and you put if if you had taken Bruno kaboko and Pascal sakam and put them into exact opposite paths let’s say at 18 years old I mean they were both around the same age right Pascal and Bruno are around the same age let’s say at 18 years old the pitch on the road is you send Bruno kaboko to New Mexico state and you put Pascal SE yakum in the NBA with no clear Direction 19-year-old 18-year-old out of Cameroon no culture you know big culture shock no development no College throw them out to the Wolves right and Bruno kaboko goes to Mexico State he was already auditioning for a D1 pro project and then the Raptors bring him in put him in the 905 give him a full year is there a chance that Bruno kaboko has the career Pascal yakum has I have no idea allegedly according to the article Bruno had a ton of maturity issues and I think that that’s something the Raptors have figured out as well again organizational knowledge an Institutional knowledge passed down from front office to front office member to member these things should get better over time if you’re doing if you’re building an organization correctly these things should get better over time I think the Tron raptors have learned a lot about what went right and what went wrong in past iterations I’m really hoping I’m really hoping um Steve Stevens say saying zakum was a soccer player the Shifty footwork gave him an edge I agree who sham Shay was also a soccer player Christian Koko was also a soccer player you’d be crazy to assume that the tronto Raptors don’t have a certain prototype that they’re fitting into and they are really just a factory at this point they are an asset Factory as much as this looks like a basketball team and it looks like another basketball team the n95 and the Toronto Raptors are nothing but an asset Factory until they’re ready to compete so right now with all of this in mind everything that I’ve said in mind now let’s think with clear Minds what the Tron Raptors are really trying to do right now right uh mace 11 saying Bruno and seum had very different Motors it’s easy to say that now I I think that it is easy to say that now I don’t know if that’s true right I I don’t know if that’s true it’s like you’ve been saying all along you got to put in the work create opportunities for the young ends but then it doesn’t turn around the way you imagine you got to think about letting it go moving on exactly and so you know as much as we want to think and and the other thing that I definitely want to mention is you don’t get the years back one of the biggest reasons and I I don’t want to say like the Raptors have always taken a failure and try to adjust as much as I think this ront office has been fairly criticized for their reluctance to move off of a bad idea and maybe holding on too long Malaki Flynn you know guys like this precious auua the experiment that never ended I think to some extent they’ve adjusted quickly when the failure was large Bruno kaboko led to the 905 Bruno kaboko failing led to the Raptors investing a lot of money into development and understanding that they could not let what happened with Bruno happened to se yakum happened to anybody else I believe that that is important the Raptors have been whether you see it or not have been a beacon of prospects developing right over the years OG anobi Pascal seak Fred Van B we have seen it but even lesser extent uh prospects like Demar de Rosen like when’s the last time the Raptors missed on a lottery pick right you can you can talk about them missing on a 46 pick but when’s the last time they missed on a lottery pick right so the odds for Grady working out are pretty good if you think about it um and the odds of you know identifying whatever is in uh within Emanuel quickly and developing that are good I think the Raptors have that infrastructure now in place where they have the development staff they have you know the 905 they have a path and a pro you know a real focus on this they have Jama back and I think that he’s a magic I think he’s a magician honestly I think JN Mala might be one of the most valuable coaches in the NBA in terms of just infusing positivity and understanding how to connect with younger players and getting them to be better right um Captain camera camer loock saying us cutting Banton makes me question how much of a stomach we have for Pure project players especially we have hopefully we have more patience with with with shamsh so I think the Delano Banton thing is a little bit of an outlier because there were extenuating circumstances that asked that had him asking out um and and asking to move on allegedly he didn’t want to be here uh it wasn’t because he didn’t like Toronto obviously he’s from around he’s from the area it just happened to be that I think he needed to go somewhere else for his own career don’t be super surprised if at some point Delano Bon comes back I’m sure that could happen moving on from this I think the Toronto Raptors also have a beautiful system which now Fosters development now the Raptor’s traded for Sasha venkov and it’s gotten me thinking is there a secret benefit to having him on the roster that I wasn’t thinking about when they made that trade initially right and of course having watched Sasha several years um you know he is a player who is just efficient efficient with his motions efficient with his movements Bruce Brown is another example of a player who’s just efficient he’s a role player archetype of the star that you want to develop right because if Bruce Brown like Bruce Brown is a great cutter right dark rakov has talked about it extensively that he used to ask young players to watch him when he was cutting right you have a player who can model the exact actions and behaviors that you want your young Wings even your young wings like Scotty and and RJ to get better at you have Bruce brown right there he’s a player who’s physically limited who has carved out a perfect role in the NBA this archetype is always there with the Raptors Fus young was this type as well you have a guy like dadus young you can convince guys who are more talented than him younger than him to to follow his routine his process his workouts this mentorship element is often so missing with teams like Detroit they don’t have the structured mentorship element Sasha venkov could be a really great mentor for all the movement shooters for the Toronto Raptors he comes off his screens he’s super efficient with his motions and movements could he help Scotty barns become a better catch and shoot shooter just if those two get close and I suspect that they will you know is he going to be able to help you have to think about this stuff when you’re thinking about building out a roster and I do believe that the Raptors and you know Messi Drew Bobby Webster as much as I criticize you know some of the moves that they’ve made and and I think fairly so yako purle Etc yaka purle is also in that vein of just a very efficient Mentor he’s a player who does everything correctly he’s limited as hell he can’t shoot he can’t shoot free throws all that stuff but having a player who has maximized 100% of their outcome you think about it what status young what is status young he’s an ex Lottery player who was brought in as a high flyer who morphed into completely different type of player thatat Young Garrett Temple Bruce Brown yakob hurtle Sasha venkov to some extent are model NBA players or model professional basketball players there are players who have taken athletic limitations uh skill limitations and morph themselves into extremely productive basketball players through repetitions hard work and intelligence if you take a player like a Grady dick and you infuse the talent that He has with the workmanship and process that they have that’s how you build Stars right you take a guy like Demar de R rozan he was the exact example of that he was pretty athletic but he wasn’t like a super athlete wasn’t a freak athlete he was just a worker you don’t think Pascal SE yakum became who he became because you had demard roseen modeling the exact pattern for him you don’t think I mean take a look at Kyle Lowry and demard Rosen how they worked and how they approached their process became the blueprint for Fred and Pascal it’s easy to say now that Fred bamble was always going to be successful it’s easy to say now that OG an anobi was always going to be successful but man watching the San Antonio Spurs be successful through the 2000s makes me think Tim Duncan had much more to do with that than Greg papovich if Messiah was given the second pick in 2019 he would have drafted RJ over jaw maybe banson wanted to leave Banton is from Mount Olive which is one of the worst eras in Toronto and apparently they were extorting him he was to feed those Street figures in the area that’s really terrible and if that’s true I certainly um I certainly understand why he would want to leave uh K 2929 hey Rob just wanted to show my support for all the work you’re doing covering the Raptors and building a great Community love the content great work thank you so much that’s that’s very nice of you okay so now moving on to the Toronto Raptors and their roster as of right now they have a couple of variables that are still in the air Gary Trent Jr um Jordan wara and we have got some news let’s talk about it let’s talk about free agency it seems like the deals are finally breaking out and it’s going to be a problem that I named this uh video Bruno kaboko changed the Raptors forever because people who are expecting free agency news are probably not going to um whoa 29 a year is um is quite a bit for Isaiah hardstein but he deserves it he was massively underpaid last year purle looking like a like a deal now well context is is very important here Emanuel quickley was a restricted free agent Isaiah hartenstein was an incumbent unrestricted free agent you always have to pay you have to overpay for unrestricted free agents again you have certain let’s call it advantages if three people come to the come to the table with three years 70 million right for do you understand what I’m saying if a big Market team comes to Isaiah hartenstein and offers him three years 70 million and I’m sure there was a competing offer the competing offer that I believe for Isaiah hardenstein was the Knicks and okay so by the way I just want to say I think the Knicks got worse and let me tell you why Isaiah hartenstein in my opinion is just as valuable if not well I don’t say just as valuable he’s 90% as valuable as melber so everything i’ heard from the Knicks was so I’ve heard hartenstein but I’ve heard him I’ve heard other people say Haren Stein we’re just gonna we’ll go with hartenstein I used to call him hartenstein so I don’t know why I was making it like that but anyways we’ll figure it out at some point don’t worry all right let’s talk free agency but I do believe that if comparing Emanuel quickly to Isaiah like that’s not necessarily the same thing um you know um OKC is a small Market team OKC has crazy crazy crazy discount contracts they have Alex cuso for less than $10 million they still have Jaylen Williams jdub on a rookie contract they have kesan Wallace on a rookie contract they have nicoa topic on a rookie contract you’ve got to consider the roster building implications to they got Chad hren on a rookie contract it doesn’t matter that you overpay Isaiah hardenstein because you have all these other kids on such discount deals and you’re a small Market team you had to overpay him they overpaid him right so it it it’s not relevant what what is relevant of course is that one of the best centers in the league just went to the west and yes that does it is a good thing for the Raptors okay let’s let’s take a look here let me just let me just pull up uh Twitter SLX I’m I’m going to call it Twitter forever liberals saying Haren Stein that doesn’t help that’s not helping um sahaj chaa saying the OKC Thunder just got the player which basically fixed their biggest problem yeah okay you know what I’m going to do I am going to more morph this into a um I’m going to morph this into free agency day two cuz now that we’re done the Bruno kaboko thing let’s morph this live into that we’ll we’ll change the lives title after to the same thing but just give me one second as I morph this title uh to free agency day two um probably GNA also change the the thumbnail because I don’t really want to start it over again oops can’t do it okay guys give me one second as I figure this out one sec change we will talk Isaiah hartenstein and we will talk about come on man what sorry I am desperately trying to uh change our thumbnail from bua kaboko to what I’m trying to do right now but it’s telling me the file is too big why is it too big bro what okay let’s take another screenshot of this how do you reduce a file make it smaller there’s probably a website for that okay one sec bear with me for one second I will change this live we’ll probably bring in more people if we change the title of it so okay there we go so you got that um s t e i n okay we have now changed the title of our live but we have not changed the description which is not great okay give me one sec got to change the description too [ __ ] okay give me one second this is this is the old bait and switch we’re morphing one live into a completely different live G give me one sec here um I just I didn’t want to I didn’t want to start a completely new one we already got like over 200 people in here so I just wanted to talk about Bruno kaboko this morning so okay we are good to go we’re good guys I apologize y’all Beed with me okay I mean how do you hide a center on D um Aiden okay I’m going to ask people please don’t repeat repeat repeat questions I think I don’t know if you’re the you’re the person that’s been asking this Ono trade over and over and over again but just don’t repeat it if I’m ignoring oring it is probably for good reason um because I want to talk about something else like if if you absolutely must I don’t I don’t mean to be money grabby or whatever but if you’re going to do this like if you’re like okay you got to answer my question then Super Chat it and then I’ll have to answer it okay like I I try to be pretty uh responsive to the comments but yeah um but like all caps lock or repeat spamming a question it’s it’s not necessary okay let’s let’s go to Twitter and let’s start our free agency component of the show at 42 minutes okay so let’s we’re there okay okay we got Shams and the Thunder s prey has been finalizing details overnight and this morning with hardenstein agents Aaron Mintz and Andrew Morrison of CA Sports what is it with this CA thing where they always want their agents credited interesting uh free agent center isah AR plans to sign a threeyear $87 million deal with the OKC Thunder so we’ll break that down we will also break down Isaiah Joe holy [ __ ] four years $48 million uh that’s worth it the OKC Thunder also signing Aaron Wiggins five years $47 million wow so OKC declined his $2 million trade option secured him for five years 47 million these numbers seem crazy but they’re actually less than the mid-level exception so they’re giving long-term security to movable assets frankly but five years and four years they’re locking into this core at this point they believe like they’re ready to go go and at this point I think what they’re doing is they’re getting low value like they’re getting high upside players or reasonable upside players right and they got all the draft picks in the world to move off these contracts if they ever backfire so this is this is great team management by OKC I find myself consistently in awe of Sam prey and his ability to maneuver um so we’re going to talk about these two deals specifically so we’re talking about three Deals four deals five deals so first and foremost I am beyond shocked that I that Tyrese Maxi did not get a maxed now someone help me understand he had a f fiveyear $24 million Max extension why is his max extension less than Scotty’s and kad’s is it because of the year he was drafted it’s not making sense to me what was what was the difference I mean he’s I’ll have to figure that out but the fact that he’s getting paid less than Kade is insane to me um someone explain it what pick was he he was the 21st overall pick no the position doesn’t matter I mean they’re calling in a Max extension and I’m sure it is his agent would be insane to negotiate anything less than a Max but what is the what is the gap between like is it is it just the year that he was drafted like he took a pay cut probably well then why are they calling it a Max extension that’s crazy that he took a pay cut because he’s way better than Kate like he’s way way better than Kade there’s not one general manager in the league that would take Kate Cunningham over Tyrese Maxi that’s just nuts Steve Stevens do you think do you think some of these players are taking backend payouts to sign these deals absolutely not that would be crazy you have no idea the implications um of doing something like that it’s like yeah next level Rob Birdman saying he is the future of that team he absolutely is the future of that team may be cheaper when he signs with extension I have no idea man I I really don’t I’m not completely again could be guaranteed his non- guaranteed could be higher I don’t think that’s it um but sure okay anyways so let’s let’s talk about these extensions first of all the Philadelphia 76ers getting tyese Maxi at 5 years 204 million locking in the core locking in what a lot of people are calling the best big three in the NBA I think that the Philadelphia 76ers are a pretty trash organization uh oh here we go all right I’m going to be a hater for five minutes y’all ignore me if you’re a Sixers fan just tune away this is not going to be fun for you Paul George is not on Tyrese Maxi’s timeline you can make a case that 32y old Paul George is still a really good player he not 32 though right he’s 33 34 maybe the equation does change if he’s 32 but he not 32 um Let me let me see if I can pull up spot track NBA free agents just to give a clearer here we go they are really good at updating these things pretty quickly so here we go Paul George is 34 [ __ ] years old and you signed him to a four-year deal that takes him at that takes him to $58 million at the age of 38 Ty lean um I Ed myself within less than a minute so I don’t know shut up okay 34 years old fouryear deal annual average of 52 million is he worth it no he’s not he’s not worth that and that is why I believe that Daryl Mory probably will never win a championship he has this completely shortsighted and backwards way of looking at basketball that he thinks is like hyper evolved and it’s not Joel embiid and Paul George are not in my opinion Championship core pieces they’re super talented pieces and on paper I can understand why you would sell yourself on the idea that you’re going to win a championship with these guys but I’m telling you this is not going to be the core that is going to win a championship just my opinion you can feel free to disagree with me you’re locked into this now you’re not developing a lot of great players underneath them Joel emid is super injury prone and yes there is a chance it’s a slim chance does this make you better than the Boston Celtics for real for real does this make you better than Boston right uh MK LP you need to get rid of Tobias Harris Tobi Harris a free agent Philly looking for part two of the process this is very different than the process I look at a team like OKC Thunder that made a really big move today with Isaiah hardstein I look at a team like the Philadelphia 76ers would parked out this cap space in order to sign a third start and I look at a team I look at two teams building on very different philosophies right philosophy one is a dated way of looking at basketball which is pre newba and I’m not saying that Paul George and Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid are not super duper talented they are very talented players I’m a big Tyrese Maxi fan I think Joel embiid is one of the top three players in the NBA when healthy he is unguardable and freaking phenomenal I think Nick nurse is a pretty okay Coach I think he’s a little overrated but I think he’s pretty damn good this is a team that can work but need I remind you two years ago James Harden three years ago James Harden plus this version of Maxi plus Joel embiid I mean you kind of parked out a star in in in James Harden and how you replaced him with a star and this guy’s old man he’s 34 years old I don’t I don’t necessarily see it he’s had a huge injury history Paul George has he’s a really good player I think this is going to look bad in a year so you got to win the championship next year and this is what I’m saying like OKC they’ve given themselves a three four fiveyear window to compete they built the right way the Sixers have not in my opinion you know they they they took Joel embiid they had a core of Joel embiid um tyres Maxi Ben Simmons right they had all these pieces right and they’ve kind of just turned it into this now what’s your window with Paul George what is your window you are you going to the finals with 35-year old Paul George as your second best player third best player you know what I mean like this notion of three incredible one-on-one players coming together without a fundamental system and of course you know there’s no better Coach to coach three great one-on-one players than Nick nurse they’ll be good they’ll be good are they going to be better than the Boston Celtics no are they going to be better than four other teams in the west no see not winning a championship what did you do this for Tai saying what did you honestly think the best course of action for Philly was good question I would have gone I probably would have gone all in for uh OG and anobi and if he wasn’t available I have to look at a different team building philosophy actually um I probably would have looked at a player like I would have looked at part out that c space into two players I would have made it known to Malik Monk’s Representatives that I was interested in him I think he would have helped a lot could have absorbed a really big trade I mean honestly if you were just going to sign this here’s a question for you what’s the Gap right now okay just bear with me a second I understand Paul George is a way better player than Zack LaVine but what would you rather have Paul George at 34 years old 21 million across four years as a brand new in contract win the headline win free agency you know you you obviously Paul George was a big fish you reeled in the big fish congratulations or again given where you are as a team would you rather have had Tobias Harris signning trade or just a straight absorption of Zack lavine’s contract plus future picks how far are you how Zack lavine’s 30 he’s a 29 29 years old he’s also had a lot of injuries he’s a great isolation player he’s a former Allstar what’s the gap between a 29y old Zach LaVine and a 34y old Paul George is Paul George better yes he is better he’s a better Defender he’s better on offense he’s good at playing off of players but what’s the Gap what is the major Gap here the Gap is 20 million well first of all the Gap is $15 million the Gap is an extra year right vegan grass saying Tobias Harris to the Pistons called it love it I did call that I’m not I’m not capping on that okay let’s see okay so I don’t know I’m I’m not I’m not thrilled with what they’re doing here considering how much it seemed embiid wanted George I’m going that route I don’t really give a [ __ ] what Joel embiid wants who cares like I know you think like oh my God he’s a superstar win something bro um I am an unabashed Joel embi hater do not take anything I have to say seriously here two years $52 million for the Detroit Pistons bro you can change everything about the Pistons but you will never change this what the [ __ ] 2 years 52 million is this real life all right well at least you get flexibility I mean that’s a really huge but again I mean you got to look at it from the perspective who the hell wants to go play for the Pistons I said it like you know you got to you got to look at it from that perspective you got to entice someone to come over to a really bad organization right now that has not won in many years once the last time the Pistons were a good team 2008 2007 right uh Abu saying that’s RJ money um listen that’s a little disingenuous and I’ll tell you why RJ Barrett is 24 years old so RJ money is partially upside RJ money right so now you’ve got potentially in two years assuming that’s not a if that’s a player option he’s picking it up if it’s a team option they’re not picking it up if if I was dear I would have jumped on Detroit cap space dear got way too much pride to go and freaking go to you know who I think demard de rzan might go to San Antonio um I think that’s in the realm of possibilities he’s a really big uh coach papovich fan I mean maybe this is the time right Demar Ren go chase a ring with um you know Stefon Castle behind him coover up some of the defensive defens uh deficiencies and that could be a pretty good team man go get the dear de rzan if you’re Detroit Pistons sorry if you’re the San Antonio Spurs if you can get demard de rzan on a bit of a reasonable contract Texas no state tax get Demar de rozan man I think that’s a good deal for them um Castle CP3 Demar Wy that’s actually not bad that’s exactly what I’m saying right and I mean be a good it’s it’s a good thing for demard de rosan too um okay all right let’s let’s continue to talk about this okay Tim bonts the Sixers now have the best big three in the NBA it’s not it’s really not close Okay Tim I get what you’re saying the Lakers are expected to show interest in DeMar rosen see I get it a part of me does get it I still think Klay Thompson is is the more natural fit for them now the other team Okay so here’s what I would do if I’m San Antonio and I believe they can do both these things I would trade a boatload of assets to get Lori Markin in in the door and then after that I would look to I would look to trade uh I would like I would like to get DeMar rosen so you imagine a starting lineup of I don’t know Devin Mel backup Kellin Johnson maybe they have to trade Kell Johnson to get Lori Markin and plus picks get Lori wemy Chris Paul demard Rosen and Devin vasel bro that’ be crazy SG can can OKC acquire Lori here’s the short answer apart from wanyama and Scotty Barnes and like a handful of like 12 other players the OKC Thunder can go and acquire anybody they want they really can um six seed honestly with the way wanyama was trending last year I would not be surprised that San Antonio team that I just described would be a four seed or a three seed they might even win the West not in the playoffs but in the regular season that’s a really good team they be better than the Warriors buddy saying Lakers show interest in everyone they think every player is going there well you know what they’ve got a pretty appetizing situation right now um what’s your top eight in the in the west right now can’t really say right now I can’t really say because there’s a lot INF flux right now if I had to Peg it I would put Houston in my top eight but I want Demar to OKC or Dallas and he wins a ring I don’t want demard Rosen in Dallas as much as you may think that he should be in Dallas like there’s only one ball and then there’s already Luca and Kyrie you need players who play off of Luca and Kyrie and I’m not really sure DeMar rosen is that player unless is coming off the bench so um for Dallas I want players like you know um can I I like I like the player they got Naji Marshall can the Clippers potentially miss the playoffs I I think the better question is can Clippers potentially make the playoffs can’t imagine they’ll rely on a rookie on a rookie Eve Mei maybe they will Paul as a mentor for cast will do wonders I completely agree clay to MBS perfect are you saying that as in clay to Mavs has already happened or clay to the Mavs would be perfect trying to understand what you’re saying um okay so three minutes ago NBA Central clay would be perfect for the Lakers did they just quote me okay cool so Tobias Harris receiving 50 uh uh uh okay let’s talk about the other deals that have gone down and talk about what may go down so Lor mark and trade looks likely let’s go to Adrian wowski forward Justin manah is returning to the Portland TR lasers on a two-way contract breaking news um so bias to the to to the to the to the Pistons I think this is such a treadmill move honestly it makes no sense it makes you a little bit better in a year that you should be aiming to be as bad as you humanly possibly can Cooper flag fits in perfectly with Kade Cunningham the idea that they would miss out on that this is is just stupid and it is the ultimate you know we’re a new front office we need to build culture blah blah blah blah blah Bro you’ve been sinking that culture forever you might as well just tank it for one year I would be tearing down if I was the Pistons honestly I would be looking to see what I can get for Kate Cunningham and I would start over that would be my view that would be my view there’s like there’s two players in Detroit that I actually keep and that’s assar Thompson and Jaylen durran everybody else would be on the market if I’m the Pistons and I would excuse myself and I would apologize to the fans and say yo we are going for Cooper flag we’re going for AJ debono we’re going to build this [ __ ] right we made a mistake we’re moving on now if Kade proves me wrong next year then Tobias Harris is gonna be great M saying how good is Cooper flag he could be defensively very very good um offensively he’s well above average for a high lottery pick um how good could he be 10 time All-Star that’s how good he could be how much better can he be than that we’ll see um so yeah so grading the Isaiah hartenstein deal let’s just let’s go to let’s go to spot track hold on one sec let me just pull up spot track um and look at the contracts being signed uh in order and we will just break them down Hold On free agents sign by position options transactions okay all transactions here we go man I love spot track big shout out to spot track team like they’re is great so share this tab okay so we got here are the deals as they’re coming in so what we missed was Kelly UB Jr twoe 16 million I give that a solid that’s that’s good it includes a player option um for the final year that’s that’s pretty cool that’s a good deal for him um okay let’s go go go go go is there anything we missed is there anything we missed these are all the contracts so Obby Topman we talked about Obi to we talked about Alex Len we talked about these these uh these contracts yesterday we talked about kcp right um talked about Naji Marshall we talked okay we talked about Dereck Jones Jr so yeah so we got to start at Kelly UB Jr 2 years 16 million I think solid like B+ right Paul George I’m G to give that a a b minus understand it short term but the back end of that deal $58 million $56 million the final two years is just I mean to me it’s a little crazy there’s not a chance in hell he’s going to be worth it and at that point right now I’m doing everything in my power to trade for Philly’s 2028 first round pick in 2030 first round pick because I have a feeling those picks are going to be fraking awful um Tyrese Maxi 5 years 203 that’s an A plus for me the key is worth every penny defensive liability for sure but I mean like I don’t know it’s interesting I’m very curious now do they have the money to resign DeAnthony Melton like they they should resign DeAnthony Melton he’s a good player uh Aaron Wiggins 5 years 47 no complaints B+ Isaiah Joe 4 years 48 million shooting at a premium young player a minus Jaylen Smith 3 years 27 million to the Chicago Bulls it’s less than the mid level he certainly earned it I give it a B+ Isaiah hartstein 3 years 87 million yes it is a criminal overpay for what he provides his fair market value probably should have been 3 years 65 million so in my opinion they overpaid by $22 million to get him to bite and to come to a small Market I think it’s a good fit next to Chad hren I think he’s going to be a really good organizational fit for that team at I give it an A minus uh just again a slight overpay but I understand why they did it it’s a good deal and Tobias Harris two years 52 million and of course the Pistons just keep losing a D minus uh borderline F I understand it from the perspective of being more competitive I don’t think you need to be shortsighted here you’re not going anywhere fast I don’t believe in this core long term it’s just stupid um Daniel Franklin saying I really like what the Bulls are doing why I mean I don’t hate it um Zig saww puzzle saying someone call your goat he’s crying I don’t know if he’s crying he should be crying I don’t know if he is crying though all right so all right let’s let’s see who’s still available and let’s talk about what could happen in the next few hours because obviously a lot of these conversations happened last night so now we still have the LeBron James moall obviously LeBron is waiting to sign until they figure out who else they can absorb into that cap space I still believe that Klay Thompson is the top Target here other targets for them could include Gary Trent Jr uh if they miss out on Klay Thompson Gary Trent Jr is the natural fallback I believe that Gary Jr will be higher a higher priority and should be a higher priority if they’re not stupid than demard Rosen demard to Rosen really um sorry I apologize it should be clay then Demar then Gary so it should be in that order those three players I think should be that in terms of the Raptors from what I understanding they don’t have the reason they don’t have the full midlevel I mean they do have it but I believe right now using the full mid-level exception would put them into the luxury tax and you know they’re not going to pay luxury tax on this this team so that being said you’ll have slightly less than the mid-level exception because of how much money you took back in the in the um King’s trade also according to Bobby marks the Raptors are now hard capped at the second apron I was looking that up this morning that’s pretty crazy if true that is that is pretty nuts granted still a bit of a CBA novice but I’m trying to figure this out so it’s because they took back that much more money my hot take on the same contract Gary Trent Jr is better than clay at this point he is um I don’t know if he is but he probably is yeah um no no I think you’re overrating Gary there they’re they’re both they’re both equally kind of just falling off a little bit Gary could be really good the issue is Gary was pretty bad on um contested contested threes last year what do you think of Kyle Anderson I think he’s great um Klay can play defense not anymore I think Clay is better what if fenov leaves though I am actually really really really leaning towards like okay so two days ago I was leaning towards he’s going to leave and today I’m leaning towards he’s going to stay and the Raptor’s going to like really really try to sell him on staying I think they like him and it’s not really they like him it’s Darko likes him Gary Trent Jr never went 0 for 0 for 10 in elimination game how many elimination games has Gary Trent Jr been in for for him to even do that Gary TR Jr has also never scored more than 20 points in a quarter I mean come on man um Nadim yeah we know we know hardenstein sign with OKC we covered it about I want to say 15 minutes ago all right so overall if you’re looking at the Raptors right now who should be the raptor top Target with midlevel that’s available Markel folz tus Jones so those are the backup guards unless you’re going in thinking Davon Mitchell or Jamal shed are going to be your saviors and I’ll tell you right now Jamal shed is probably going to spend the first year at 905 I know he’s probably capable of playing a role in the NBA but there’s no chance they’re going to give him that role over Dave y Mitchell on day one he’s going to have to earn that he comes into he comes into training camp and he earns it that’s different but yeah another uh guy that the Toronto Raptors could look at Joe Eng Les ton Horton Tucker Alec Burks I think all these guys are in play for the Raptors they fit what they want to do this would be a pipe dream but DeAnthony Melton would be incredible Mo Vagner fits very well I think with what the Raptors want to do and if they can get him it would be a bit of a dream sadik Bay I wouldn’t but I understand if the Raptors did decide to do do that it just it probably wouldn’t wouldn’t make sense precious auua I don’t really want to continue that experiment personally uh boban marianovich um I would do it I would do it just on a minimum I would absolutely do it uh boban is just a great human being he is a lot of size maybe it provides a little bit of yakob yakob purle injury insurance he is a great Mentor as well and just an incredible culture Builder just a really good person I’ve met I know a lot of people who have known him for years and he’s just a really really solid person like he just upbeat never complains about anything always lifting people up trying to make people laugh he’s just a really good person so you you know and he’s very productive like if you have to play him for 10 minutes he’s not going to completely botch you so he’s just he works really hard he is like a really productive version of everything you know you got from Garrett Temple and I wouldn’t be opposed to Bringing Garrett Temple back either but you’re kind of running out of roster spots at this point uh Xavier Tillman would be a really good get for the Raptors and would be a really good model I think for you know someone like Jonathan mobo to look at maybe so again all these guys are in play right 10 million you also don’t have to go for the full 10 million you can you know I believe you can go like three and five or four and four and you can parse it out a little bit but we know the Tron Raptors right it’s it’s always a little bit of a challenge to bring in so you can also trade your mid level and you do have the ability right now potentially um James saying Trent G to end up in Detroit it could happen Ron saying or Ryan saying I remember when Jack Armstrong [ __ ] on Xavier tman for a whole podcast broadcast explain why because I really like Xavier tman and I don’t understand why also the Tron Raptors could be a Shuan not a Shuan but could be more into zavier tman than most given the fact that they have a connection with him already he was in Memphis if I recall correctly um he was in Memphis at the time and Darko rakovich does have a connection with him he had a hand in helping develop him so maybe he has a greater insight and a greater pulse on him that’s always a good thing when you hire a coach away from a good development program obviously jontay Porter came from the Memphis mess you know and and that was maybe really good until it turned really bad but you cannot complain about the player that jonte Porter was again half the bad half the battle with young players is getting them to trust that’s half the battle I’m I promise you from years of looking into this a lot of players come in and they don’t believe they don’t believe what you’re telling them is the right thing to do they’re listening to their trainers they don’t think and you’re getting conflicting information right you got a you got a trainer telling you you got to work on your midi pull-up you got a coach telling you never do mid-range ever right you got you got a trainer telling you one thing you got you got your friends telling you another thing you friends telling you you’re supposed to be a starter you got a coach telling you you’re not ready to be a bench player right so the partial part the the difficult part is number one finding people who don’t have too much conflict in their lives they don’t have like terrible people in their ear telling them all this nonsense the second part is getting them to trust you right so he repeatedly said he doesn’t have much skill you know what I remember this I remember this and I thought that was very very stupid and offputting and I think I even commented on it at the time yeah that makes sense um okay so overall I think the Raptors again they can help facilitate from what I’m hearing the reason that this entire free agency is taking so long is because a lot of teams are a little bit more jammed up cap wise than they initially expected to be so that’s at least part of what is you know creating this mess all right let’s see here hold on and I’m gonna I’m G to actually um there’s there’s something very interesting that we should look at together as as a community I think and it’s not just refreshing Shams is take but just want to do one final check on this okay so this is Bobby marks and Bobby marks has a really good um article that he wrote which I believe is pinned here it’s called the free agency guide and hang on one second so share this tab instead so it is the uh 30 free agency priorities needs and let’s just scroll down to the Shon Raptors this is a really good resource for just kind of a snapshot of what the Raptors are doing and what they need it is however incorrect I just want to point that out too it is incorrect because he has jayen McDaniels on the team still so that’s just a little bit of an oversight If someone knows Bobby marks just ping him a little message saying that’s incorrect but so so again this is an overview of the Tron Raptors I’ll apologize again for all these ads that continue to appear on our stupid screen here okay here we go got the ads off perfect okay so let’s just take a look at Bobby marks free agency preview for the CH Raptors so offseason transactions already exercise Scotty Barn cre to a 5year $225 million extension manual quickly 5 years 175 and manual quickly contract kicks in next year Scotty Barnes the year after that jacobe Walter first round Jonathan mobo second round Jamal shed second round URI shamsh second round daveon Mitchell trade Sasha vov trade offseason priorities says Bruce Brown Raptor elected to exercise $23 million team option on Brown by doing so Toronto has a valuable expiring contract to use in a trade I appreciate Bobby Mar saying it’s valuable we will see how valuable it is brown averaged nine points to his points but only shot 31.7% on three-pointers that sounds like two bad things to say but all right he’s like he averaged nine whopping 9.6 points but only shot 31.7% as if anyone is overly excited about either of those two things uh team needs point guard depths completely agree bench scoring at the wings um I completely agree backup well I mean no I don’t agree actually I disagree with that because I think Grady and uh jacobe Walter could fill that role pretty admirably and I expect the Raptors to have them you know in that role but I understand that if you can get bench scoring at the point guard position and point guard depth in the same thing I think that would be good um which just is a if the Raptors could find a dynamic point of attack defending point guard who can score a little bit and get in the paint like a marel folds that would be great a backup big I agree quickly signed to a reasonable deal well the reasonable part is out the door but it he did sign so that’s good and off ball offensive options off off ball offensive development from Barnes sure future draft assets rating 7 out of 10 the Raptors have all their own picks uh thank God finally for the first for the next seven years and 2026 top four protected first from Indiana sorry I’m getting a little bit of interference I wonder if this is my phone creating an interference on the thing sorry about that guys give me one sec scrap the Wi-Fi okay um cash okay so and we have six second round picks available as well so that’s that’s worth noting um I agree I agree completely um so available exceptions is the 12.9 million non- tax uh non- tax midlevel again sort of a caveat using that full mid-level would put them into the tax they have a trade exception from the Pascal yakum trade of 10.2 million second round and Veteran minimum exceptions so again the second round exception new for the CBA you don’t have to dip into your mid-level exception to sign your second round pick you can actually lean into the second round exception which will incentivize teams to actually sign some of second round players because a lot of times you’ll see teams just outright wave their second players or draft and stash them this incentivizes from the players union perspective uh for those for those players to be signed um the uh the CBA impact the Raptors are hard capped at uh 189.5 second apron they took more money in the trade back with Sacramento if true it doesn’t really matter because the Raptors weren’t going to approach that number anyways extension elble Scotty Barnes will sign the extension on July 6 that’s already been agreed to Chris bushe will probably not uh that’s not breaking news for anybody Chris buet is on the Block free agents um Bru Brown not anymore uh Jordan wara Gary Trent Jr Manny quickley nymore and Gary Temple so really if the Raptors do absolutely nothing they’re done right and I understand why most people think well then they’re done right but I don’t think they’re going to do nothing I think that there is a version of this in which they are not even close to done and I don’t think Bruce Brown necessarily fits their needs um if Bruce Brown is your backup point guard next year how are you feeling not too bad not great either um let’s see here are when is Temple signing probably last booty Brown 27 years old Bruce Brown play claimed to be injured last year so pray he plays much better next year I don’t think he claimed to be he just was he was injured um harun saying folz would fits so well I really do think so also fun fact about Marquel folz for those of you who didn’t catch my interview with um Jeff Dalton’s trainer Brian in uh salutes and shout outs to Brian um yeah Jeff dton and it’d be great to have a Jeff dton and I would be so thrilled to have a Jeff dton plus Marquel FZ reunion in Toronto that’d be great you think we give Davon a choice chance at point guard I do think we will but I think that chance will be over by training camp I don’t think he’s good man that’s just me that is just me but I don’t think he’s great I don’t think he’s I don’t think he’s like I’m not saying he’s Malachi Flynn bad because he does something well but I just don’t necessarily think it’s going to work so well um I do however I want to tell you I was thinking about this yesterday I do think that Sasha venko is going to work really well off of Scotty Barnes there’s something about those two players plus you add yakob P into that mix you put Scotty in a front court with Sasha and yakob the spacing becomes very interesting very interesting with those three players in the front Court Al G algid saying nobody is an upgrade on Brown at this point yes please write that in an email and forward it to every general manager in the league look man I’m I’m totally on board with this idea that Bruce Brown would be a pretty good player like he’s he’s one of the top 150 to 160 players in the NBA right but he’s being paid like he’s one of the top 100 players in the NBA do we have a coach wait what Julia Hayden it happened are you head faking what happened what happened what happened dude if you tell me it’s Canada day I’m gonna flip I like you Julia but don’t head fake what happened Matt 319 oh Paul George the Philly uh [ __ ] yes juliia that happened if do that bro that’s funny I was watching I was watching the intro of last night’s uh live and I said yes Paul George is going to Philly so that’s that’s good I called that at 5:20 p.m. geez Bruce bound Hunter your thoughts bro nothing you have post notification on you shouldn’t be getting faked like this you never know man this is like the internet age you just never know when someone else’s you know friend is gon to break it like w yo already WJ and Shams have been beat to a breaking news I believe that Naji Marshall breaking news was not on them so I don’t know man like we’re living minute by minute with free agency I’m getting head faked um yeah I know you’re not a show you’ve been here long enough start a free agency oh it was kcp okay yes it was it was kcp that they did not break you’re right I mean some trolls it’s obvious like LeBron just got traded that was obvious right um but if you told me right now if someone’s just like noira back like I’m going to believe that zilet scooped W and Shams on kcp James Bryant please know all caps that’s the final warning on all caps if you want to stand out so much do a super chat OKC is having a great free agency so far yes they are no worries that’s cool um the Lakers uh to to answer your question they are waiting on LeBron I mean sorry they are waiting on one of these players that they’re going to absorb into um that slot it’s probably going to be a shooting guard it’s probably going to be Gary Trent Jr demard de Rosen or um or would it be a big like a shooting big are any of those available Scotty Barnes traded to Toronto Raptors you just get banned for that Heron you got to put predictions Scotty Marsh traded to the tronto Raptors stop head faking I’m just kidding um is Bruce one of the better overpaid players yes would you be opposed to keeping Bruce this season maybe till the trade deadline um I’m not opposed to it I I think he has value and if he comes out and he’s terrible what I’m afraid of is the Raptors are going to be pretty good at the start and they’re going to be like oh now we got to keep Bruce Brown and then you know you end up in next off season and you end up being the team that gives him three or 60 million which I would hate to be SP Bruce Brown gonna be a borderline Allstar what do you mean fam I appreciate clutch Tatum uh bringing in the Toronto lingo wagan fam all right uh do you see Lonzo getting traded soon that’ be interesting that would be um that would what was your reaction like when you saw kawhai got traded to us back in the day um honestly initially I was a little bit sad I love kawh Leonard I think he’s amazing I had um a feeling that he wasn’t going to play for us I had a feeling he would sit out my first thought my because honestly the person who broke the news was dear back then he broke the news um and and I remember because I heard about the news from dear’s story it framed the entire news as a really bad thing cuz you know you felt like one of your franchise icons and a guy who had put so much work into the city was so hurt by it and of course you know it’s a business and all that stuff but you kind of had this like gut feeling of like okay what if you just traded Demar de Rosen and stuff like he traded yaka P plus Demar that’s a ninth pick that’s two ninth overall picks that were very instrumental to your team plus you trade a first overall you know a first round pick um and you took back kawh lard and it’s like yo like Kawai hadn’t played last year in San Antonio so I was a little bit um I was a little bit bearish I warmed up to the idea the minute he showed up in Toronto and he took that picture with you know Messi and Bobby looking like a freaking I don’t know like one of those Afghan hostages um smiling and then you know he did his press conference I was fine at that point I was fine could the Bulls package Lonzo to get off the LaVine contract I’m sorry are we living in a world where Lonzo ball is an asset at this point he’s not an asset he’s a liability and a significant one hasn’t played basketball in two years I can see Demar going to Golden State um yeah I mean dear to Golden State Demar to Clippers Demar to I don’t know about Demar to Clippers it would have to be a sent trade at this point and the sign in trade from the Clippers would be Norman Powell interestingly so it would be Norman Powell to the Bulls sign and trade the DeMar rosen to the Clippers again the salary cap floor is the salary cap floor you got to meet you got to meet the requirements there are certain teams right now that are below the minimum cap and so those teams are going to have to go and spend money and at the end you’re going to have a DeAnthony Melton right um going to a team at some point what happened to the Gordon Ramsay guy the Raptors had who was dunking on Magic’s head Toops I don’t know who that is um Doug reporting Gary is good as gone now when is bue getting traded is Doug reporting that yeah it’s been it’s been in the wind that Gary’s been gone for about a month uh Raptors can’t afford three can’t afford three years 27 H for J Smith I’m not really sure I would want to honestly I’m not I’m not I understand it I get it um but you got to ask yourself like as a prospect where we at with Jaylen Smith right now is he worth $ n10 million a year to you is there like some sort of massive upside on that deal Jackson saying d the Celtics have to pay $1150 million in taxes the next two years I don’t know why we talking about jamas Ramsey Gary on the Lakers would be nice yeah man um Gary’s interesting I mean the Raptors you know I understand the like if he doesn’t want to come back and I don’t fully understand after you pay emmanual quickly $35 million a year the Gary’s probably going to be like well if he’s getting 35 I’m worth at least 20 um okay we got it we got we got we got a deal Drew Eubanks going two years 10 million Utah please remember for the rest of your lives the Toronto Raptor thought so little of Drew Eubanks they literally waved him geez I was actually disappointed when that happened he was originally included in the fattiest Young trade so Drew Eubanks has agreed to a two-year $10 million deal to join the Utah Jazz it would have been so ironic if he had joined the Toronto Raptors given the Raptors just m waved him but I would love to see Gary on the Lakers yeah that was X RoR W bomb x-raptor W bomb all right so we got Drew Eubanks news that’s what we’ve been all waiting for another one bites the dust man what are you guys doing for Canada today I’m basically a twitch streamer at this point on YouTube you think Atlanta has done moving pieces no I don’t but it is interesting to think that they will be keeping Trey young given the fact that they are trying to rebuild that seems weird um thanks appreciate it Lori Markin in is on the way out I got to clean the house today I promised I was going to do it yesterday but I ended up doing a seven 7h hour live stream instead dog is feeling a little bit better today got him real motivated with those bacon chops to get his ass moving this morning so he went for a nice little walk uh Justin saying Hing up to barbecue that’s nice man that’s good stuff um yeah one of the one of the bonuses of the pandemic just being inside restaurants being a nightmare to go to and all that stuff was I really learned how to cook really learned how to cook I don’t mean cook as in like basketball debates I mean like cook cook like real cooking and I went from you know and I just decided like there was these 15 things that I was going to master you know and ironically or unironically they were all very unhealthy variants of fast food dishes that I loved um so I really learned to master Chicago deep dish pizza um a version of like the Manchu walk you know Chinese takeout um I really learned Haka Cuisine right like the like Haka Haka Indian Chinese it’s like a blend Cuisine um like a really spicy Chinese food like it’s great I like I like love Toronto for the fact that they have so many Hocking places so yeah so I like learned like General tow chicken and all that stuff and I’ve like really perfected it to the point where when I go to a restaurant now like we went to a restaurant yesterday I was like straight up I make better chicken than this so Jaden saying does the does the yakob contract look better after the Isaiah hardenstein deal no no it does not again different context different city different uh unrestricted free agent versus you know resigning a player small Market you can say you know Isaiah hary is younger player you could say he’s a better player um no there’s there’s no World in which yako p is worth $20 million and by the way there’s no world in which Isaiah hardstein is worth 27 but again from a team building philosophy right it doesn’t matter what you pay any one individual player if it’s a short-term deal also me NE I just say four-year deal versus three-year deal is a big difference to me could you see Markin on New Orleans no I think Lori Marin’s Landing spots are San Antonio Atlanta um what are the other teams that actually have the assets to trade for them OKC those are the Lori Market on OKC kind of makes no sense because you have chat already unless you’re putting chat and Lor marketing as starters and Isaiah Hardy on the bench um back to Chicago no uh not a chance Dennis Garcia saying I feel most Chinese restaurants over breed their chicken and it comes out hard as [ __ ] definitely profit over quality facts bro so the Chinese restaurants that I am very critical of do three things to their chicken which I really don’t appreciate number one the MSG right number two um they overbred it you’re right so obviously breading chicken makes it feel like you’re getting more chicken but you’re not really getting more chicken you’re getting like half bread and it kind of makes you sleepy and it’s just it’s not great for you um and then the third thing is they overs salt it so they add way too much salt like if your taste buds are not dead like some some fast food restaurants are just like it’s way too much salt so yeah that’s that’s what I appreciate about making wait what free manderin buffet today Canada wide for real sorry you got to understand something about me okay I remember there was a place uh we used to go to in Pennsylvania and I’m forgetting the name it was like King something it was like it was this massive Chinese buffet and yo I would get so excited about this like I would get crazy excited about this to the point where we were driving to Pennsylvania and I would I would be like looking my chops be like oh my God we’re going to go to the buffet it’s going to be great and um at one point someone just heard me like plotting out like how was going to this and that and they were just like you got an attack plan for the food I was like yes yes I got an attack plan for the food and then afterwards they always had the best ice cream I don’t know man it was it was great but yes I used to love Mandarin and funny enough I grew up U when we moved to Canada the building that we lived in was literally right across the street from a mandarin so it was like Mandarin was great it was like someone saying Imperial Buffet is better than mandrin sure I’m in Bolivia so no uh free buffet for me Imperial all day i’ rather fast than eat at manderin oh we got we got OG Frankie tomatoes nice Imperial Buffet I’m trying to think I think I went once on a date to Imperial Buffet um the two mandarins that I’m aware of one’s on Burch mountain eging and the other one is on Young and Egon Imperial no longer exists yep Frank he is done too uh we went to a place yesterday they had an all you can eat variation but we didn’t go with the all you can eat I went ended up going with the bento box I’m forgetting what it’s called but it’s um it’s a it says that domos Plaza close to Domino and Egon so sad when I drive by the tower there Mandarin free today yep heard that but I would have nobody to go to mandrin with since my girlfriend and I got into a really major fight yesterday day before day before yesterday is it yeah it was day before yesterday right before we went to sleep so we haven’t talked for a day and a half and I don’t expect to talk to her just so I have someone to go to Mandarin with am I going to show up to Mandarin myself I could I could go to Mandarin myself I could just go to Mandarin myself and just pile up some you know Shanghai noodles and some um LOL I eat solo I always found like the best people that I ever knew had no problem doing two things going to a restaurant by themselves going to the movie by themselves bro I’m not in the dogghouse she’s in the dog house do a live stream at the buffet GNA be a long wait so it was yesterday no it wasn’t yesterday it was the day before that’s what I’m getting confused about so we went go so we went to the rest bro was it yesterday no she was no she was out of the house yesterday so it was the day before yesterday my bad it was it was the day before yesterday I’m losing track of time it was the day before yesterday we went we had a really great day and then we got into a stupid fight over um the dog there we go it was Saturday it’s a long weekend so today is Monday but I think it’s Sunday and yesterday was Sunday but it felt like Saturday we went on Saturday went on Saturday to the buffet which we didn’t use the buffet component and my friend just came back from Serbia I don’t think she one of those people who be like nah Mandarin no we can do better than that should I am I too good for Mandarin am I too good have all these super chats spoiled me have all these super chats spoiled me and am I am I too bougie for Mandarin no I’m never going to be too Bouie for Mandarin I don’t care I know it’s trash food I I know that I’m like I completely understand it you know right around the covid times I I got really healthc conscious and I fully started to see like what was in our food and it was like damn this like oh has it so I haven’t been to Mandarin like the last time I went to Mandarin was um don’t don’t clown me don’t be like oh my God you took a date to Mandarin I did take a date to Mandarin in 200 and and 11 that’s the last time we went to mandin 2011 I had a lot of mandrin during Co it really hasn’t been good can I ask you questions exop puzzle who goes to a buffet during a [ __ ] pandemic were you trying to die yeah that would be great this would be great chapi would be great right now you Uber eat you were Uber eating Mandarin I didn’t know they did that I don’t know how they do that but still very questionable Anthony F you would not approve I mean if you want to avoid lines during pandemic seems right move facts no man I I think like cooking was the best like I’m telling you man like it’s great because putting you on black I am putting you on blast you might be the reason the numbers were so high you cost us you cost this economy billions of dollars bro what you doing with and for Mandarin this country had to suffer so you could have mandarin it’s funny because I mean honestly Mandarin got a lot of promo right now like we got like probably going to have like 6,000 5,000 people seeing this and me talking about Mandarin but if they listen long enough I’m probably gonna get sued by Mandarin at this point all right just so we’re clear I like Mandarin haven’t been there in 12 years probably not going to go again after this but yeah um the Jazz will sign any white guy oh God the Jazz will sign any white guy to play basketball in Utah Drew Eubanks got $10 million from actual NBA team what the [ __ ] he was part of a trade to the Raptors we cut him right right away well In fairness Just In fairness probably shouldn’t have been cut just saying did you watch any Euros yesterday nope okay so we’ve been we’ve had Drew Eubanks on our screen for a long time let’s refresh and see if anything has changed on this front it has not Drew Banks is the center of the NBA right now for like a full 15 minutes he has the center he is the center of the NBA world right now for 15 minutes you know they say 15 minutes of fame Drew Eubanks just got his 15 minutes of fame looks like it’s going to be a slow day what are we talking about we already got Isaiah hardstein news not even 11: a.m. Isaiah hardstein was one of the biggest dominoes to and honestly I think that this restructures a little bit of okay so here’s a question and I think that it’s worth asking the Knicks with OG plus Mel Bridges or the Knicks with OG plus Isaiah harste what would you rather have given how instrumental and important hartenstein was who’s left Gary Trent there’s a lot of players left man like don’t necessarily have to go through the entire list again but I will share this with you so this is a list of all the players that are left hang on they’ve updated this LeBron clay Gordon Hayward Kyle lry demard Rosen buddy heeld EV ion forier Gary Tren Jr Markel f m Beasley tyus Jones Luke Canard Doug McDermot hey there’s a couple of other guys you touch ja can sign I’m just kidding okay Gary Harris R Robert Covington ran Holmes I believe has signed a has agreed to sign a 2-year deal with the Washington Wizards but we’ll see if that comes up uh Nicholas Batum Joe Eng Les ton Horton Tucker Alec Burks James wisman Monte Morris Kyle Anderson DeAnthony Melton mo mo Vagner who is likely going back to Orlando once they decide what they’re doing with the rest of their cap space miles Bridges cheddy Osman Isaac aoro Daniel Ty this is interesting can we get tyus Jones or Melton probably not that would be a dream it’d be great but unless it’s a sign and trade probably not now that that that is another way of looking at Bruce Brown and and I think that this is worth also thinking about what if Bruce Brown could be used toward where it’s a sign and trade to to getting one one of those guys right so you do a sign and trade if you know Philly doesn’t want to commit long-term money to DeAnthony Melton could you potentially trade Bruce Brown plus a couple of seconds to get DeAnthony Melton that would be great that would be [ __ ] fantastic so four-year deal De Anthony Melton I would do that in a heartbeat if if the Sixers were interested in Bruce Brown at all so like again A team out there that has the right to sign these players because they have their bird rights like like a Marquel folz or whatever right so if that deal could be restructured in that sense even a demard de Rosen right I’m not saying we should go out and get demard de Rosen but like of the players that are remaining marel FS right now let’s say Marquel wants more than what we have but we have something that the Orlando Magic need right so Orlando could sign marel to a 14 million threeyear deal at 14 million a year which would be reasonable for marel I think so that’s a little bit more than we could outright get them for and then we could just we could just trade them Bruce Brown so they get the short-term deal at a position of need and we get the longer term position of need like it helps both sides I’m sure the Raptors are very very busy right now um I know people are like oh my God nothing’s happening it’s all quiet blah blah blah blah blah but you know it’s it’s totally it totally works um so sign and trade Gary Gary for fols so technically it’s difficult at this current time to incentivize a team to do a signning trade when they have outright cap space it’s when teams don’t have cap space that sign in trades can be heavily incentivized right now for instance the Chicago Bulls don’t have a boatload of cap space and so dear de Rosen can be incentivized in a sign and trade to say the Los Angeles Clippers for Norman pal where you get to keep something you get an asset back you know that’s worth something that you can trade down the line um contrary to what people think um it’s not overly desirable to work as a below the cap team precisely unless you are using your cap space it is sometimes just helpful to be slightly above um quiet on the surface and Chaos in the background I completely agree sign and trade only works for teams without cast base correct so my my point is you could agree to the Markel fols sign and trade hypothetically right um once they fill up their cap space with Mo Vagner or whoever else they’re going to sign again all of these deals are unofficial right now everything is unofficial Paul George is unofficial Isaiah hartstein is unofficial none of these deals can be made made official until July 6th which means they can all technically be restructured the sequencing can be restructured the NBA moved to this to this system a long time ago so that front offices would have the ability to resequence Deals right um really stupid question with a 0% probability but could we sign and trade for Jonathan Isaac um I’m trying to think of that question what sign and trade for Jonathan Isaac Jonathan Isaac is not a free agent so just trade like you would just be trading for Jonathan Isaac there’s no signing required who are you signing oh Bruce for Jonathan Isaac potentially unless unless of course you’re the Magic in which case you have to maybe ask yourself why are we doing this Isaac’s the better player plays the same position yeah anyways so instead of doing a let’s say like an 8 hour 10 hour marathon what I’m going to do is I’ll check in with you guys again around 4:00 unless something major breaks for the Raptors I’ll be back around 4 o’clock 5 o’clock and then we can ride out from 5 o’clock till 9 o’clock or maybe six o’clock till midnight or something like that um I do enjoy these jam sessions but at some point we might go an entire hour and there’s only so much [ __ ] I can talk about Mandarin for for that much time um rather sign Hayward as an elder Statesman than Gary Tren Jr at this point uh I wouldn’t but sure I’m not I’m not high on bringing either of those guys in you don’t have to pick between two terrible outcomes okay anyways uh have a great candada day Rob yeah you too man have have a great day guys and uh yes I will hopefully something good happens for the Raptors today it would be great because it’ be kind of poetic right Canada the day something good happening for the Raptors that’d be great um for those of you who joined this Jo joined the stream late who are interested more in terms of what the Raptors are doing organizationally as you know in terms of development and stuff and a little anecdote about Bruno kaboko definitely check out the beginning first 38 minutes of this live it explains it pretty well you just scroll back all right thank you guys so much for um the super chats Jacob Isaac uh K 2929 for the two super chats really appreciate it and um yeah drop a like on your way out that would be much appreciated talk to you later bye

Bruno Caboclo was a Brazilian Kevin Durant before he was 2 years away from being 2 years away before he was a King before he was a promising big stretch five in the Euroleague for Partizan Belgrade. 10 years later, the Raptors drafted Ulrich Chomche, and the parallels are very similar. But the result for Toronto COULD* be very different this time.

Toronto is going back to the basics of what won them an NBA championship. Developing young prospects, building up role players, and cashing in for a star. The Raptors have a model. And you’d be crazy to assume they haven’t gotten better at it over the years despite a 4 year hiccup with Nick Nurse.

Let’s talk about the organizational philosophy, and a bit about free agency and the implications of the Paul George deal, and what the Raptors are willing to do, and perhaps unwilling to do at this stage of their evolution.

  1. I thought Caboclo looked good at World Cup for Brazil last year. Don't know why he doesn't get an opportunity as backup in NBA. Unless he doesn't want to return.

  2. I would argue that without Tampa the Raptors would be behind a decade… We would be the Pistons, Wizards, or Blazers of the world. Tampa gave us Scottie our franchise player who has the greatest chance of being our Kawhi of our championship team being the best player in the world. Without him the future wouldn’t be bright right now. I understand the argument that Masai waited too long and should have traded Van Vleet, OG, and Siakam sooner but I think history will be kind to us looking back on that OG trade.

I understand that wasting picks on Young and Poeltl might be mistakes but if we kept those picks we probably wouldn’t have ended up in the perfect place to steal Quickly and Barrett. Maybe I’m a little too optimistic of the BBQ core and I think Mogbo is going to turn into our OG replacement.
