you wanted a big move you got a big move the capitals acquir defenseman Jacob Chan your locked on capitals your daily podcast on the Washington Capitals part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day hello and welcome into this edition of vck on capitals big news around the capitals there has been some big trades some big Acquisitions today on July 1st I will go over the biggest one the capitals acquisition of Jacob Chan a really really huge move for GM Brian mcclelen and the capitals the capitals have acquired defenseman Jacob Chan from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman Nick chansen and a 2026 third round pick a huge move for the capitals Bri mlen is swinging for the fences bolstering the Blue Line listen Nick Jensen had an up and down season this is a win for the capitals uh kind of a steal over the Ottawa Senators in my opinion the capitals have significantly upgraded their defensive lineup by acquiring defenseman Jacob chian this trade involves sending Nick Jansen in a 2026 third rounder to the Senators this was even announced before the formal start of free agency uh Chan a left-handed defenseman is known for his offensive capabilities versatility in various game situations and his ability to contribute to the power play with his quick hands and Powerful shots he is also capable of handling substantial playing time although there is room for improvement in his defensive capabilities his and he has anticipated to bring more of a dynamic playmaking skill set to the Capitals top four defenseman lineup this was a move that we thought was going to maybe happened last season with Chan but it has come full circle and is now a member of the capitals performance and potential of chran during his 82 games with the Senators last season chran scored 14 goals and made 27 assists uh accumulating a total of 41 points at 26 years of age he has already posted two 40o season in his career showing significant promise and enhancing the team’s defensive skill set uh let’s talk about the decision to trade Nick Jensen again a bit of an up and down season I also wouldn’t be surprised uh to see TVR on the move at some point uh GM Brian mclen has expressed the team’s intention to revamp their defensive lineup and preparation for free agency leading to the decision to trade the experienced right-handed defenseman Nick Jansen who has been a key player for the capital since his acquisition in 2019 this is a win make no mistake think about it the capitals made the right move Jim Brian mle in his thoughts on Chan Jacob is a 26-year-old offensive defenseman who has nearly 500 games of NHL experience his unique skill set in experience will undoubtedly bolster our Blue Line substantially increasing our offensive capability so a huge move for the capitals I will have you guys covered all day long but a huge move that took place before the even formal starts of free agent gency keep it locked all day to locked on capitals
