Did Tampa make a mistake letting Stamkos walk?

welcome inside the frenzy Lounge Lindsay Hamilton alongside Brian Hayes and Brian it is our first major splash of the day Steven Stam Co no longer a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning off the Nashville Predators my goodness you exhale when you hear that because he had been with Tampa for so long and it’s going to be weird to see him in a PR’s Jersey first and foremost how do you like the fit with Nashville I like the fit uh Nashville is a good team like we saw what they did in the second half Andrew brunette really you know put a stamp on that team in terms of pushing them into the playoffs they need offense they need help so stamp Co clearly is going to help that also it fits in with what trotz has done Barry trotz basically since he took over there he wants veteran winners went out and got Ryan O’Reilly last year he’s won obviously Luke Shen he’s won obviously now you get Steven stampco two Cup winner he’s won twice in in t in Tampa he went to four Cup finals while he was in Tampa so I think stamp Coast will sit fit in well I think it’s going to be a tough transition like you said Lind like this is crazy this guy’s been here for 16 years he’s been the face of that Organization for a long long time now you’re moving into a different room you’re not the captain you’re not the leader anymore so that transition is going to be really interesting but he’s a great player like he can still score that’s what they need in Nashville I think it’s a pretty good fit and of course he brings that leadership both on and off the ice but as you just alluded to he was truly the face of the franchise for Tampa so are you surprised that the bolts let him walk away I am to an extent but it’s it’s a ruthless business and Tampa has made it very clear for quite some time the only thing they care about is winning and I have a great appreciation for that that I’m surprised stamp coast and the lightning couldn’t come to terms to make sure that they continue to work in that direction but obviously Tampa looked at it and said gensel is younger we think he’s better today and he’ll certainly be better for the next seven or eight years so they went in that direction right they said sorry Stephen there’s the door see you later ruthless but I appreciate it like Vegas does that Tampa does that Florida does that a lot of teams in this league that win that’s the way they operate and it’s going to be interesting to see what that team looks like without them but they still have CRA they still have Point hedman’s going to extend vasileski is there Cooper’s there you bring in gensel they’re a really good team and I kind of like the attitude that they’re approaching this with thanks for everything your number will be up on the raaps you can come back whenever you want but there’s the door see you later it’s a tough business isn’t it all right 16 Seasons with Tampa Bay obviously was the former Captain two cups but now starts a new chapter in Nashville e

Steven Stamkos is officially a member of the Predators which will surely be a change after all of his time spent in Tampa Bay. Lindsay Hamilton is joined by OverDrive host Bryan Hayes to discuss the move and the surprise that the Lightning did not choose to keep him.

  1. The disrespect for Stamkos is unbelievable…. 40 goals last season and offer him 8×3???? To me, this ends the Lightning’s run, after the loss back to back first round losses, and getting rid of the heart of your team…. And sergachev

  2. No one comments on the comparison; Guentzel 37 goals with a plus-minus of +8, Stamkos 40 goals and a minus 21. That's why he's gone. Remember Brad Richards? Led the league in minus and traded to Dallas. Forwards who play D win.

  3. as a tampa fan i'm happy for steven getting one last big paycheck. i'm also glad the team dodged a bullet if that was the price that was required to keep steven under contract.

tampa going from stammer to guentzel actually shows they aren't going to follow in PIT or WSH's skates, condemning themselves with "thank you for your service" contracts until their stars burn out. ⚡

  4. No mistake…they chose to keep Hedman and replace Stamkos with a more defensively capable goal scorer who is 5 years younger. Sports is a business making decisions on loyalty and emotions are ill advised.

  5. Times change . People change and sometimes it is time to move on for everybody . Feels weird that the flagship Player of the Lightning is gone but we can always get another one . Tampa Bay Lightning broke through to the dynasty level. There will be another Stanley Cup for the Bolts before this decade is over !

  6. The basically offered him 6 million per, as he is probably going to play 4 more years and thats it. Never going another 8 – C'mon

  7. How do they only offer him 3 million? I get he’s on the back 9 but he’s still a point per game player and the face of your franchise/captain. Don’t blame stammer for leaving because that’s insulting

  8. I don't get why some people are mad at tampa, is it not to field the best team to win the cup? Guentzel is over 4 years younger and at this point a better player. If i was a GM i would not pay 8 mill for 4 years for all the mileage stammer has.
