2024 NHL Draft – Lukas Fischer (56th overall – St. Louis Blues)

who was the first hug my mom my mom she she needed that one I think she she might have been more nervous than I was it was awesome just when you heard from the Sarnia sting did that start to just get the butterflies going even more maybe even we off the shoulders yeah I was I I still can’t believe it it’s awesome it really is how sting helped you over the last couple years I I don’t like can’t even put it into words like they’ve given me more opportunity than I can imagine Dyan Tanger and all coaches hail’s Dusty my teammates like it’s it’s an un unbelievable place you know I we have a culture there that’s just unbelievable so it’s it’s a bossing you were playing top demons this year so you got to play against a lot of the top guys do you find you know is a challenge that s help you develop uh absolutely yeah I think uh I think you know getting thrown in the Deep ends I think it’s a great way great way to do it so I’m I’m grateful for the opportunities that they got this year when you think back to your decision to come to Sarnia how have you developed from that 16-year-old getting selected today by St Louis I to be honest like I you told me last year I’d be sitting here I don’t know if I believed you so it’s it’s unbelievable but I’m I’m super grateful the way everything worked out it was kind of a whirlwind but I I couldn’t be more more grateful though you know how it worked out what’s been the biggest change in your game you think with this um I think I think I got a little calmer out there I learned how to maybe manag minutes a bit better and then I learn how to be a bit more poised how have you gone through the process of deciding which nation you represent internationally uh I I grew up in Detroit area um you know all my friends are there all my family so I think from that standpoint it’s kind of a almost an easy Nob brainer group five minutes away from the ntdp watching them play growing up and watching you know guys like Jack Hughes and them all go through the USA program so it’s always kind of some one of my goals to maybe put that Jersey on one day what are the biggest lessons that you’ve learned from your dad about a life in hockey um I I think he likes to keep it simple says you know have a purpose every day and as long as you’re getting better every day you’re going on the right direction so I think I think those are the two biggest things probably yeah how have you gotten better just this past draft eligible season from September through till now uh I think just being able to play against you know better competition getting to play against the other team’s best every night just forces you to be better like he can’t you know so I think that’s probably helped me the most how much just playing a 68 game regular season help you you know playing as many games you do every week in the O I think it’s you know the best thing is is there’s a game you know every couple days right so whether you’re building confidence or you know maybe you had a rough night and you know you got a game in the next you know 3 4 days it’s pretty it’s pretty special so I think for that standpoint like it you know it helps up a ton your dad has done a lot of amazing work uh to raise awareness heart conditions all around the world what what does that represented to you to see the work you’re stat has done that’s unbelievable um I think you know for something like that to happen to him who know probably could have had a pretty lengthy career it’s unfortunate but you know for him to kind of do what he’s done it’s it’s pretty special
