Was Ivan Demidov The Right Pick For The Montreal Canadiens? Chris Peters And Matt Moran Discuss

but now we move on to Ivan demidov and the and and the and the Montreal Canadians and you know they bring out Selen Deion which I’m sure you absolutely loveed who who doesn’t love Selene she comes out you know announ it was awesome I mean Ian demidov pick I I had an internet issue I had to run up to the media room um just as Montreal was on the clock and so I am uh I missed my opportunity to be in the same room with the legend uh that is Selen Deon uh so that was uh very very upsetting to me in the end but Montreal picks Ivan demidov and there was plenty of rumors swirling around would they go in a different direction were they really that serious about it and in the end they do what Their fans most desperately wanted them to do which they have not done in recent drafts I I think back to the yesb cenami pick where the woman was just like had her hands on her face was like what happened and and uh she was right uh just wanted to throw that out there she was right um and uh Brady kuk probably would have been the better pick there um but but you know they they you know they don’t pick Shane Wright they they don’t pick um uh trying to last year for um yeah Mitch exactly for reinbacher so so they go and they get demidov who you know to he was number three on my list um I think he’s an exceptional Talent um I do think that the hype has gotten a little out of control um I you know Maddie I don’t I don’t know how much MHL hockey you’re watching these days but you know the thing is is that that league is is it really is not good um I just want to you know like so his his production there is very impressive the league itself is not very strong it doesn’t tell us because he broke Nikita CV’s record for points in a season and it was the MVP it doesn’t tell us that he is going to be an an elite level scorer I think based on the skill based on what I’ve seen he is but now let’s take a look at this so you’ve got Montreal you got yourcece lovsky on One Wing you’re going to have Ivan demidov potentially on the other Wing you’ve got Nick Suzuki you’ve got Cole Coffield you know hopefully Kirby Doc is healthy um they’ve got a young core I still think there’s a lot of building to be done I like what their blue line Looks like long term um I still think the jury’s out on Ryan Bacher I think he’s gonna be a good player but you know I and I don’t think that whether it’s him versus mitkov now that they have demidov I don’t I think those fans will probably get off their scouting staff back just a little bit but I mean you know just based on what you know about their Prospect pool you know how how do we feel about the Habs long term do do we see a path forward to them to being a a Stanley Cup contending team here in in the next four to five years yeah they definitely have the young pieces coming into place um Owen Beck’s really strong he had a really good draft plus one year in Junior played a game uh misar who they took in the first round last year I know you were really high on they like him as well um my guy Lane Hudson turned Pro um you know after another great year at beu so they have the pieces um they’ve had health issues like you said with Kirby doc you know Suzuki’s great um they just have a lot of young players they’ve picked a lot like if you scroll through you know old drafts they’ve had seven plus picks eight plus picks in the last handful of drafts you know you can only have so many contracts and you wonder if they would be better off using some of these you know High picks that people seem to trade away now more freely than ever for roster players or impact players um you know St Louis GNA get some Runway to do it there they’ve got the new you know kind of two-headed structure in the front office with uh Jeff Gordon and Ken Hughes that are kind of turning things around and it’s just about staying on Pace but it’s eastern conferences you know as bad as it was last year kind of at the bottom it’s pretty competitive in that last you know three or four spots for the last two two to three playoff spots and I don’t know if they’re ready to make that jump yet I think some teams got worse this week in free agency that they could maybe Leap Frog but you know they’ve got a good young core and that’s not a team that’s too far removed from playing for the Stanley Cup during Co either yeah yeah so I mean you know there’s I think there’s there’s certainly a lot of pieces in place for the future you know there’s going to have to be work done in free agency And Trades to to insulate some of those guys I think that they do need to get bigger as a as a group um you know I think that’s a pretty small roster and demidov does not help them get bigger he is a strong player but he’s and he’s any you know he may not be here at least for another year um so you know so that’ll be interesting to watch but I I think you know Montreal has been in this kind of weird place where their their best you know their best opportunity getting the first overall pick was probably the weakest draft that we’ve had you know so it’s also about when you’re bad sometimes is is is is helpful but to now have a player like demidov where I think a lot of their fans probably feel like hey we got one of a guy that could potentially have gone number one in other drafts I mean sovi did score 50 points last year right he’s com and that’s the thing right I I don’t mean to slight your ey sovy and that’s a good point MD because he is he is playing really well and I think that they’re they’re you know at this point proven fairly right Andy just signed a big ticket um so you have you know you have cost certainty with him for the next eight years so you know I think SC 20 goals as a 19y old yeah it’s really impressive and and I just you know I think like you know but it’s not like they got mlin celebrini right you know it’s not like they got the you know the Conor bards and those so that’s the thing is like you know those those those found like is slavkovsky a foundational franchise building block yes but not in the same way that a celebrating ER Bard would be

Ivan Demidov is a fan-favorite pick for the Montreal Canadiens, but was he the right pick for the Habs and is he going to be a foundational player?

  1. Celine Dion picking Demidov may be remembered as an iconic moment for the Habs. The hype is too much though: if he’s not Kucherov, the Habs fans will be devastated

  2. The ghost reaction kotkaniemi lady was thinking they would pick Zadina who actually stayed with her as his billet family when he played in the chl.

  3. KotkeNymi was drafted by a previous General Manager, doesnt count!
This time around our General manager and his team have an actual plan, and they've communicated it to the fans!
never seen this kind of transparency in Montreal, its very welcome.

  4. I don’t think we pronounce Hi-Van But E-Van. Russian is not pronounced in english. Like we don’t pronounce Mario Lemi-who but Lemi-eux 😂🙌🏻

  5. They didn't make a pick based on what the fans wanted… they made a pick based on their scouting reports. When you ask Nick Bobrov what he thinks about Ivan Demidov being the steal of the draft and he responds by saying "Uh absolutely, that's an understatement."? I'll believe him over 2 podcast boys.
