DeBrusk discusses how Canucks’ desire to win was a huge draw for him

M uh one of the major moves on this day is the Vancouver Canucks adding Jake debrusk who joins us on the line now Jake you’re your first time really going through this after being a breu your entire career I I always say the caveat besides the money why Vancouver yeah I think that there’s obviously lots of things that uh Intrigue you as a player I think that obviously playing with other um you know pson or JT Miller and just seeing how they took their development Next Level uh I guess this last coming season um you know it’s a team that’s ready to win it’s a team that I know that can come in help and um also I know it’s a Canadian city that that wants to win as well so um you know I think that’s going into this process I just wanted to find myself where I can be in a place where I could fit in and uh and help a team win so um that’s where uh it really narrowed down for me had a chance to golf with your dad during the Stanley Cup Final I know he had anxiety about this how much anxiety did you have going through this process for the first time oh I feel I feel bad for you I know you like to rage a lot so hopefully he was on his uh his best behavior um no I it’s a stressful time for sure I mean this is obviously my first time going through it and um you know you talk different guys and try to feel it out it’s a bit overwhelming but at the same time it’s really exciting and you know Vancouver was a team that really pushed hard I could tell they really wanted me and um it was something that I was just really excited to to get done but uh this this last couple hours of been a worldwind that’s for sure for those watching who you know want to understand what it’s like for someone to go through something like this you know can you let us know many how many teams were involved how many teams you look seriously at and and how quickly you have to make the decision yeah I think it all kind of varies obviously there’s lots of conversations and things of that nature and you know I was in a lucky position where there was a lot of teams that are interested in in different types of deals and and there’s different possibilities and you try to weigh in everything at once it’s it’s a lot to weigh in it’s your future and um you’re trying to figure out what the best fit is and all that good stuff and um it makes it easy when a team like Vancouver comes a knock on the door and um they made it pretty hard for me to go away so um you know it was one of those things where um like you said the anxiety things of that nature you’re making decisions and trying to plan for the future which you know in any way life is hard so um you try to weigh in everything and and just make the best possible decision you can and um you know I feel very confident I’m very excited that that’s going to be with Vancouver well a Western Canadian boy played your Junior and Swift Current and a little bit Red Deer and going back to western Canada with the conu we congratulate you and wish you all the best there thank you so much I appreciate it that’s Jake debrus who signs with the Vancouver connects

  1. I heard both Edmonton and Vancouver were fighting over this guy…lol….Boston wanted to get rid of him. The funny part is, both the Oilers and Canucks will miss the playoffs next season. Book it….😂

  2. This Vancouver Canucks organization is a complete joke of the nhl !!! They try to sign the big Z and Elias and they won’t play for Rick time to move this organization

  3. We'll miss Jakey in Boston. A bit of a conundrum at times, but when he's going hes a VERY responsible player who can play in all situations, and when he's Cookin he's been known to have streaks of 10 goals in 20 games. Would love to see it all "click" for him, and finally pop that 40+ goal season he is clearly capable of.

  4. I tried to stick up for him for years because I’m a bias fan….now that he’s gone, fuck him, plays like he’s in beer league!

  5. Debrusk was my first choice for Project Petey. The term Guetzel wanted was too long, also another soft winger isn't really needed in Tocchet's system. Think we underestimate how much this team can already score, Tocchet admitted that he needed to make some tweeks to the system to increase scoring chances.

I'm so glad they didn't do anything risky, and to me, Debrusk is a very low risk bet, great age, skill and size.

Don't know if many people realize there were talks of a Miller for Debrusk trade 2 years back. Would have been a shame, glad to have them both.

  6. Desire to win? Every team has the desire to win. What the hell is he talking about? LOL. Bos is a much better franchise, so I have no idea why he "chose" Canucks. Bos just let him go for nothing. So, not too sure, he's going to be good. Yes, he's a Tocchet guy, but that doesn't mean he's going play well with Pettersson or Miller. The only bright side is that he is a playoff performer. Maybe that will be good enough?
