BREAKING: SHOCKING Leafs Update… This is DEVASTATING for Toronto | Toronto Maple Leafs News

this is shocking as in a wild turn of events West Clark has left the Toronto Maple Leafs just weeks after he made the draft selections for the team in the 2024 NHL draft and the team he left the leaps for is absolutely shocking so to break all it down discuss how this changes everything and is quite frankly devastating for the Leafs going forward stay tuned for all that in this episode but before we do if you’re a part of the percentage who aren’t subscribed to the channel you’re going to want to hit that button we keep you up to date on all the latest Leafs news but Darius this is not the video we expected to to make today and it’s very upsetting I’m a little bit surprised we were just making videos a week or two ago during the draft about how West Clark was you know we had faith in West clerk all his draft picks have been great he obviously drafted e cow which is one of the best draft picks in Le in recent memory for the Leafs and around the NHL quite uh frankly but Darius West Clark is gone and it started with a tweet from Elliot Freeman saying that word today is that West Clark a big decision maker at Toronto’s table the last few years the draft table that is sorry is exiting the organization we will see where he ends up but all eyes are on Pittsburgh and then this was confirmed that he left the org for Pittsburgh Penguins and Kyle dubis as now former Maps amateur scouting director Wes Clark left for the Penguins and earned a promotion which is very important uh for him so congratulations to him but he left them for the Penguins and Kyle dubis now Darius it’s not necessarily super surprising that he left the Leafs I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen but I could see a world where it did to earn a promotion with another team but Kyle dubis and the Pittsburgh Penguins maybe some tampering going on there but that is uh that is De devastating for the Toronto map Poli yeah I’m not entirely surprised in terms of him going to the Pittsburgh Penguins right he’s rejoining Kyle dubis and he gets a bump in pay a bigger role right I’m not entirely surprised I knew that this guy was capable of that and he’d probably get it somewhere else in the league right but I’d be shocked if he wanted to leave the Leafs for another random organization but the fact that he’s going to join Kyle dubis does make a lot of sense and I can see when their contracts are up some other people in the front office doing the same thing but that’s a topic for another day so this guy leaves the organization the least organization just a couple days after you know making those draft picks cuz he he runs the draft basically right like he he calls the shots like he doesn’t actually make the draft picks I guess final say is still tree living but he calls the shots of who is going to get drafted and who they should draft right and that position is now empty in the Leafs organization and he’s made some pretty good picks over the last couple of years so um it’s it’s a shocking move honestly this is not what I expected at this point in the summer and I didn’t think it was going to happen this year really yeah very right after the draft is really the surprising part for uh for us obviously they made their draft picks and I like a lot of the draft picks they made so I guess one side of it is we can be thankful that he we got to get a little bit of a taste of West Clark’s draft picks before we go hopefully he does well but you can see this here and it’s this is all official at this point if you’re curious what his role is now he is the vice president of player personnel and he will oversee the club’s amateur professional and college and European free agent scouting departments and will report directly to Kyle DUIs so obviously the relationship ship was still good after dubis was fired uh from the let go from the Toronto Maple Leafs but Wes clar this is and if you look at the fan reactions around the NHL Ren leaves nation in specific Mike Stevens here Mikey Stevens 81 shout out to him that is straight up devastating to the Leaf’s front office can’t think of a bigger loss other than maybe PRM brutal and obviously we’re talking about big losses in the grand scheme of personnel obviously players would be bigger losses if someone requested a trade and things like that but darus he was well-loved across really the NHL and he was well respected and this is why he got a raise and the question is now did he just want to leave for Pittsburgh or maybe will info come out to Le for whatever reason weren’t willing to give him which I can’t imagine is the case but maybe weren’t willing to give him the promotion that he was looking for losing West Clark is a major blow for the Leafs the front office needs to go out and hire the best possible candidate with a blank check but if that was the case with a blank check either the Leafs didn’t offer him a raise which is unlikely or he just wanted and really likes his relationship with Kyle DUIs I think it could be the latter right could be both a little bit of both but I think at the end of the day when Kyle DUIs got let go there’s a lot of people in the front office that were not happy about it and some fans are happy and some people believe like myself that the team does look better now right it’s just a fact of the matter I think uh on paper the team does look better now but there were a lot of people who worked for the Leafs that were not happy with that move so the fact that that opened up in Pittsburgh and you know there was an opportunity for him to leave and to to rejoin Kyle dubis I’m not entirely shocked by that at all so I do think there is some recency bias going on here too because one one of the problems Leafs have had over the last couple years and Kyle dubis said it in one of the Season exit interviews a couple years ago is they haven’t had too many guys come up to be able to fill spots whether it be from the Marley to the Leafs over the last couple years and really take control of those spots last year we had a couple right like mcmah for example but there hasn’t been too much of that in the last couple of years right maybe the last six years whenever he’s been here so I will play Devil’s Advocate in that way against West Clark but at the end of the day he has made some really good draft picks I think Ben Danford is going to be a really good player obviously e cow and what he’s doing and where they got him and the criticism everyone was giving West Clark and everybody else in the leaf organization so um you know there’s it’s a mix of both he has made some good draft picks but do they end up developing right yeah that’s the question we don’t even know if how e C’s going to be at the NHL level yet and that’s what really depends on how good the draft pick is even though all signs up to this point uh point to him being Elite NHL player but you can see here West clarkk leaves the lead for Pittsburgh worked with dubis um and was brought back in Toronto by in 2018 after two seasons as a scout in Florida if we were around the clock a little bit so been with the Leafs now for almost six years a major loss for Leafs who now need a new director of player personnel and amateure scouting that’s the big thing like you’re not only losing one of your best players or one of your best Scouts sorry and one of your best front office Personnel but they need to now replace him with someone who hopefully is adequate in that role and I guess the question is how much did they know like how much info did they have that he was going to leave that he was debating leaving and I would have lik to think that they would have made a strong case to get him to stay given his track record like you mentioned there is definitely a bit of recency bias specifically with e Cowen because of how at the time that pick was a major stretch and then it ended up being a great pick but you can see this here if we rewind back you can see what Kyle Duba said on Wes Clark having worked with him or having worked with Wes for many years I have a deep trust in his ability to identify Talent lead staffs Advance our scouting process and methods learn from mistakes to improve processes and to challenge my own thinking and planning on a near daily basis so that’s what Kyle DUIs had to say and now the newly hired Wes Clark in a very uh you know imp interesting statement to say the Le really just gassing up West Clark which is rightfully so but um I don’t know daryus do you have any any thoughts on this again I’m a little bit upset it would have been a very good thing to keep West Clark on the Toronto Maple front office staff now granted draft is over but there’s a lot more that goes into it than just the draft picks and everything like that but we’ve seen Brad living as well like praise Wes Clark for his for his picks and now he’s just gone and they have to find a new one and we’re going to keep you up to date on who that new guy is but very surprising it just I did not expect in a million years that to happen today this soon a or so after the draft Yeah it was like you said it was shocking like three days ago he’s at development Camp which we’ll have a video on as well right but he was there watching the prospects that he has picked right so it’s a little shocking that just a few days later uh he is moving on but again I’m not shocked that it’s to the Penguins but uh I think now the Leafs have to turn their attention to who’s going to replace him or who’s going to be in that role and I wonder if it’s somebody internally like I hope that somebody was kind of shadowing West Clark this entire time within the organization that they can kind of promote because if you bring in somebody entirely new who has different you know ideas Can it can be a good thing but maybe there’s a little bit of friction within the rest of the organization and their philosophies too so they would have to go out if they’re going to find somebody externally that you know uh meshes with their ideas and what they want to do um you know with the team right and it’s going to be hard to do so I do wonder if it’s somebody internally probably going to end up that way so I hope somebody was shadowing West Clark because at the end of the day he is good at what he does he cannot develop the players himself right but there has been you know he has a bit of a track record of uh and I just talked about it a few minutes ago the Leafs have not been able to get guys to come up from the Marley and really take over spots or you know fill in when need be when there’s injuries right over the last couple years so um you know a little bit of both what happens next is what’s most important for the least you can’t change the fact that he’s gone who they replace him with is going be very interesting we’ll keep you updated on that so make sure to hit the Subscribe button we’ll see you soon

  1. Dubas isn't going to be running things for long in Pittsburgh anyways lol. He is over hyped and not that great of a GM imo

  2. This is GREAT news! Wes Clark drafted with 1st round picks Rasmus Sandin & Timothy Liljegren. No wonder the Leafs have had issues on defense. When the rest of the NHL was going with big mobile defensemen the Leafs were doing the opposite. It is Dubas' style to go after little offensive defensemen. Look what Dubas' first move was in Pittsburgh – UFA Erik Karlsson and it was a disaster. Good riddance. Dub as & Clark deserve each other.

  3. I've heard all about how much of a draft guru Wes Clark is, he was brought in 2018, here are notable Leafs picks since 2018

    Rasmus Sandin

    Sean Durzi

    Pontus Holmberg

    Nicholas Robertson

    Matthew Knies

    Fraser Minten

    Easton Cowan

Not exactly a banner list is it? Also, nobody from the 2020 draft has played ANY NHL games.

  4. Name one pick this guy made. I watched the memorial cup, Easton Cowan spent the entire week on his Ass! Undersized for the NHL. A blessing in disguise!

  5. Only some people have the ability to see the hidden talent of young players. It is hard to explain but people like Wes Clark see that where no one else can.

  6. Its not all wess clarck its a round table group discussion on who gets picked he even said that some scouting staff had there guys they wanted to get its not one guy leafs has people all over the place telling wess on who they like

  7. Why was anyone in the Leafs organization unhappy Dubas left? Dubai left for more money and control. He was orchestrating that move which was dishonorable.

  8. It makes no sense to me. Wes Clark was front and center during the rookie draft. He must have known his time with the Leafs were numbered. You wonder what advice he was giving the Leafs during the draft. Maybe the draft picks this year, the players the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Lol.

  9. Was he a relative Nick? Why is anyone upset? Thank god hes gone. What proven rookies over the last 10 yrs has these players made out well? Can you tell me the last roy that the leafs had even in the running? The guys we call up are sent back down after a game or 2. Rubbish…bring in someone with a proven track record.
