THN 2003 Draft Preview.

  1. I promised someone a while back I’d dip into the old draft guides I have. Here’s the earliest one I could find, although I know I had some going back into the 90’s. Also ranked in the first two rounds: Biznasty and Cory Crawford. Not ranked in the top 60: Bergeron and Weber.

EDIT: I was trying to do this fast and missed their “Top 100” list. #76 – Shea Weber, #81- Dan Carcillo. Not a top 100 player: Patrice Bergeron. 😂

  2. Yes, the painful memory of another Oilers draft bust. Marc-Antoine Pouliot. Picks made after him are insane.

  3. It’s funny reading the concern about Staal “not being strong enough if he only tops out at 200 lbs”. Obviously the league was a different game in 2003 but nowadays a guy at 200 would be a blessing

  4. This makes me sad as a Sharks fan, we could have Getzlaf or Perry, or prevented several knee injuries with a Dustin Brown selection in instead of Michalek.

  5. Am I reading the birthday correctly? Vanek was an overager in this draft year? He’s an entire year older than Suter, and it’s not a late birthday.

  6. I genuinely remember watching Steve Bernier play. Shame he never really hit as high heights as as we hoped, but over 600 NHL games, very respectable.

  7. That’s a lot of guys in there who ended up on the Wild on the back end of their careers.

Although I think most of us in Minnesota remember Eric Fehr’s goofy teacher brother dancing in the stands at Wild games more than we actually remember Fehr.

  8. Never realized Eric Fehr went in ’03. I wonder how many rings this class has in total

  9. “Marc-Andre Fleury elevates the emo” is my first glance at a sentence, this post has potential

  10. Corey Perry looks like he was shoved into a few lockers.

    So scrawny looking

  11. “The Greyhounds were not a top-end team and Carter carried himself well…”

    Fuck Jeff Carter
