Camp Updates:
Much less updates, reporters asked not to tweet play by plays, but I'll post some updates for those without Twitter and recaps when they're posted.
Falcons and Dolphins are currently warming up. It is *hot*.
Falcons-Dolphins one-on-ones: Kirk Cousins just threw a pair of beautiful 30-yard touchdowns to Drake London and Ray-Ray McCloud. Bucket balls down the right sideline.
Clark Phillips blanketed Anthony Schwartz in one-on-ones. Patient feet, good break on the ball, knocked it down. Undrafted rookie DB Trey Vaval just had an interception where he ripped the ball away from Dolphins WR River Cracraft.
Rondale Moore had a few difficult reps against Dolphins safety Siran Neal. Miami’s offense hit a handful of passes. Saw A.J. Terrell lose a rep to Tyreek Hill. Decent coverage, better route.
In one-on-ones, the Falcons’ starting offense caught passes from Kirk Cousins and … Michael Penix Jr., while Taylor Heinicke and Nathan Rourke were on the opposite end of the field with the reserves. So, Penix as QB2 appears to be firm.
Kirk Cousins targeted Darnell Mooney on a curl to the right side of the field but it fell incomplete — Jalen Ramsey in coverage. Cousins overthrew Kyle Pitts the play before:
Carlos Washington Jr. hit a 15-20 yard run for Atlanta’s second-string offense. Washington still working as Atlanta’s RB3, a role he looks comfortable in.
Michael Penix Jr. hit rookie RB Jase McClellan on an out route by the right sideline, but McClellan bobbled and ultimately dropped it. McClellan returned to the sideline and did 10 pushups.
Tua just threw a 50-yard touchdown to Tyreek Hill on the left sideline. Beat Mike Hughes by a few steps.
First altercation of Falcons/Dolphins camp — looked pretty intense. Drake London caught a pass over the middle, took a few hits and then got knocked to the turf. Atlanta’s entire offense and Miami’s entire defense met at the 25-30 yard line. Pretty big crowd with high tension.
Carlos Washington Jr. has had a really good day, trending favorably as Atlanta’s RB3.
Mike Hughes intercepts Tua Tagovailoa — Falcons brought pressure, Tua threw it early to a spot, WR (believe JeQuan Burton) didn’t get to the spot, Hughes was sitting in the right position for where the ball landed.
Michael Penix Jr. is heating up — just hit KhaDarel Hodge in the bucket for a 35-yard gain down the right sideline. Went from the 45 to the 10. Really good ball.
Dolphins Reporter Travis Wingfield:
Patrick Paul pitched a shutout on the 3 reps I saw. He ran Lorenzo Carter damn near across the street to HRS.
David Onyemata beats the block of Rob Jones for a TFL on Achane
Kendall Fuller draws Kyle Pitts 1on1 for a deep ball and pinned him to the sideline, stayed on top, pass never had a chance
Chop Robinson lines up inside, beats the center and meets the ATL running back for a big loss
Malik hits a crack back and seals the edge on Ebikete to give Achane some room outside. Gained a few, but what a block from the rook on an edge
Falcon defense getting some penetration, holding the point on a couple of Mostert/Achane runs for short gains.
Penix has hit some short stuff but it's been a little scattershot otherwise. He just sailed an open out route a few yards over his intended man.
Tua an absolute fuckin dime to Tyreek for the 50-yard TD. Right in stride, beat Mike Hughes
Falcons bring the heat and it gets in. Blitzer got Chasen Hines on the ground en route to a sack
Tua's first rep results in a scramble, but a flag is out for holding off the edge. I think they got Durham.
Cousins has their biggest play of the day – about 18 yards to London on an out-breaker working on Fuller
ATL D stacks up blcoks of Liam and Austin to shut Raheem down for no gain and then a free run from Terrell forces Tua to throw it away
Mike Hughes has his revenge, picks off Tua on a throw to the outside where Cracraft broke in. Tua was hot, knew they were bringing more than they had in for protection, caught the snap and threw it falling away. When you’re on the wrong page with your WR there, bad things tend to happen.
This period tilting towards the visitors. Playing on time in the passing game — Cousins and Penix, and some good surge in the run game. The Tua and White series on offense didn't produced many positives.
Simultaneous action – Eddie Goldman beats Driscoll for a TFL.
Penix has back-to-back beautiful throws. First a frozen rope on an out to Hodge for 13-ish. Then a deep ball to Hodge who got a step on Siran Neal for the long ball – call it 40.
Tua is sacked on the first play of 2-min — Lorenzo Carter came in unblocked.
Cousins drove the Falcons to the 20-yard-line and their FG is also up and good. Both offenses convert in the 2-minute drill. Fun practice. Dolphins came out swinging, Falcons got back up off the mat and I thought it went pretty even the last half of practice.
