  1. It just feels like the islanders are stuck. I’m not sure what they’re missing. They’ll certainly make the playoffs but I’d be surprised to see them make the second round as they are right now.

  2. Islanders are either going to finish 2nd/3rd in the metro, or have a very meh season and be a wild card. I think they have a better roster than last season, contrary to what Neil Smith has said, and they can 100% get bounceback years out of Ilya, Mayfield, and Pageau. This isn't a bad team, but I will watch what they'll do come deadline time. If Duclair can hit a 60 point season, then they're gonna be fun.

Reality is that nobody outside of islanders fans knew how bad their PK was last season, and hopefully changing to a new PK coach can change their fortunes. Games like the Sharks, stadium series, Devils game, Bruins game, and others cannot happen now.

  3. A team that is almost the same every year. Most players aren't getting younger and outside of Duclair and Tsyplakov, I expect more of the same. 5th in the Atlantic with 91-96 points.

  4. I think if any of the remaining 4th line sticks around, it should be Clutterbuck. Martin has been done for a while, especially considering he doesn't even really fight anymore. If they have to part with both, it was a nice long run.

  5. As long as they keep overachieving? I don´t know about that. Where do they finish last year with a good Sorokin? The prevailing wisdom in Islanders circles is that Duclair will start with Horvat and Barzal. Tsyplakov with Nelson and Palmieri. OF course that story will be told in training camp and the start of the season.

  6. Patrick Roy seems to be brought in to learn from Lou before becoming his replacement, i wonder how he does coaching them for a full season still though, he could be what Sorokin needs right now after getting in his own head way too much last year

Probably the hardest team to pin down where they are, how they’ll finish, and where they’re going

  7. I found Islander fans in the comment section of the poll more negative than the general hockey fans. The word Mediocre come up a lot. Many people sleep on Duclair as a player.

  8. They will make the playoffs… barely. They won't be a factor in the first round. Because of this, they won't get a good draft pick making it harder to improve the team.

It could be worse. They could be in the mushy middle barely missing the playoffs year after year never getting enough draft capital to improve.

  9. They can certainly perform at a high level in SOME games but its Roy's task to make them into 82 game performers. Need to rehash his record after he took them over mid last season. But believe they would have finished higher if it was 82 games. Top flight goaltending and a good D but I still have my doubts about their bottom nine forwards as top regular season performers or the ability to go deep in a playoff run😂
