Teams qualified for the next Olympic hockey tournament

  1. I hope Russia gets to play. The tournament will be way better with them there. I wonder which goalie they’d go with.

  2. Maybe I’m biased but I don’t understand the qualification maths at all. There are 12 teams at the Olympics. Slovakia regularly ranks between the 8-9th spot at IIHF Worlds. On top of that they won bronze at the last Olympics

So how come the team had to go through a qualifying round same as teams like Hungary, Austria, Japan, Ukraine or Great Britain? No disrespect to those teams but the aren’t on the same level as Slovakia yet they all played in the same qualifying round

  3. For a second I forgot Italy was automatically in, as the organizing country, and was so proud of them for qualifying.

    (EDIT: I’m Italian)

  4. do we think they might just do an independent unaffiliated athlete team for the russian hockey players? there were a decent amount of those athletes this year in paris, so it might just become the go to for russian athletes.

i strongly support the russia olympics ban and believe anyone who supports putin is an idiot, but for the russians who don’t support him or his war on ukraine i think they deserve the chance to compete, just not for russia.

  5. Still dont know why we’re even consiering playing in a tournament with a country that’s de-facto at war with all of the others on this list. seems like a no brainer but of course the businessmen and oligarchs on both sides of the world need to get paid.

  6. Call me a horrible person ( Bring on the downvotes idgaf) but I would love to see Russia play. You can’t call it best on best without the best russian players present ( Kaprizov, Panarin, Malkin, Shesterkin and emerging talent like Michkov and Demidov). None of these players have any say in what their leader does ( to my knowledge they don’t support the war) so to ban them is an insult to best on best hockey competition.

  7. I highly doubt the European countries would play if Russia is still waging war in Ukraine and even then I think they still wouldn’t be a part of the tournament, well officially anyhow.

  8. Love love love ice hockey, but you can see by the qualified countries that it is a first-world sport.

  9. Can someone explain why it would be France in for Russian and not Norway who’s ranked higher than France in IIHF?
