The white plastic pieces screwed on to the top 2 eyelets. Are these custom pieces to reduce lace bite?

  1. Don’t know the exact term for them but it helps tighten the skate? I’ve also seen them used where the piece sticks out more allowing more depth or forward flexion instead of wrapping around the front of the ankle.

    Could be wrong though.

  2. A highlight circle would have helped. But I think you’re talking about the extra kevlar/maybe carbon fiber plates? That’s to help absorb impacts from a puck when shot blocking with a reduced chance of breaking bones in the feet.

  3. Yes, they are to prevent lace bite. Old school, and probably custom for him, but you can still find eyelet extenders online.

  4. To me this allows more room in the throat of the skate for ankle flexion. Some guys drop a row or two of eyes from the top but this probably helps keep some ankle rigidity side to side but improves forward flexion.
