  1. Disagree with you on Soto. Sox should not be distracted by Soto. Generational player, but at the same time we need the cash for pitching, we have Casas and Devers to mash from the left side, and we are swimming in left hand bat outfielders.

  2. Boston and Toronto are constantly being used to up other teams offers (see Ohtani) so I wouldn't put ANY stock in that.
Congratulations to Abreu it's great to see that happen to a young Sox player

  3. Anyone who thinks the Sox are going to sign Juan Soto hasn't been following the team for the last 5 yrs. Would have been nice to just make the video about giving Wilyer his props.

  4. Refsnyder option was picked up by the Sox. Wonder if it is to keep him, or have another trading chip.

On Abreau, it is not just the defensive stats. He did all this playing in the toughest right field in all of baseball.

I do not think the Red Sox extend any qualifying offers, but maybe they surprise. On the flip side it will not surprise if the Dodgers place a QO on Teoscar Hernandez.

  5. Signing Soto would create excitement like when the Sox signed Pedro or when we signed Manny. Maybe more excitement! Sox have assets that are very desirable right now. Abreu just won the GG and was a top rookie. Roman Anthony is the #1 prospect in baseball. It’s POSSIBLE their value may never be this high. So what if we signed Soto. Could we package Abreu and Anthony and get a top pitcher for them? Castillo, Gilbert

more? What would Abreu and Anthony be valued at?

  6. Love Wilyer ..what a great rookie season ..his value is skyrocketing. With Cedanne ..Duran..Ref ..and Anthony ..a guy this good is expendable ? Package him for Garrett Crochet? Take advantage of his value.

  7. Congrats to Abreu! The dude played RF hard and played it well. Agreed it’s impressive for a rookie to win, not a usual feat. Well deserved.

I just watched the excellent Comeback documentary on Saturday. The meh attitude on the realistic possibility of pursuing Soto is a stark reminder of how this ownership’s competitive juices have declined in the past twenty years. Those guys would be all in on a player like Soto, especially a Soto who played last season on an AL Championship Yankee team.

  8. Soto is definitely not coming to the Red Sox no serious fan would think so. Abreau getting the gold glove is definitely a bigger and more relevant story. Abreau is going to be interesting to see how it plays out. I still think he's likely going to be traded but that's an open question for sure.

  9. Abreu's trade value has improved, so it is great news. After our contentious relationship for years, we both need mental health counseling! You missed that the RS resigning Refsynder! Juan Soto RS rumors is a good joke.

  10. With this current edition of FSG there is no way the Sox will bring in Soto, even though they should. It was heard enough to get them to pay out one large contract for Devers, you can't expect that they will have 2 of them on the team now. Until they show they are willing to spend again, the national media needs to stop thinking of the Sox as a Large Market team now. Next up what to do with our surplus of players in the OF. Next year we could have 4 plus players for 3 spots. Duran, Abreu, Ceddenna and Anthony. Also throw in Campbell if he shoots up the charts again, possibly Refsnider (less likely though) and you have an issue. I know you said it would be great to trade Masa, but his surgery plus his salary combined with his lack of defense almost makes him untradeable. The fact they will want to trim more off the roster to be able to add and he will be here next year more than likely. So now you can't use the DH spot the way you wanted to. Duran I would say is the least likely to be traded as his speed and energy is very rare along with his defense getting much better year to year. Ceddenna is much to good defensively and has a pretty high ceiling so he is going to stay. Anthony is so coveted that it would take way to big a package to even consider trading him. That leaves Abreu. Him winning the Gold Glove award combined with hopefully a top 5 or better rookie of the year should really increase his trade value. I can't picture them being able to play everyone as much as they need to play and succeed. If I could I would trade Campbell really high, move Story to 2nd, have Ceddenna play SS and they you could have your OF be Abreu, Duran and Anthony. Which might be the best option available. It will all depend on what pitching they can get back for Abreu vs Campbell. It kind of makes your head spin trying to think those things through.

  11. Juan Soto is a great player, but he would not suited for the Red Sox as I feel that we have so many outfielders that we can call on, of course Roman Anthony, and a big congratulations to Wilyer Abreu and if the decision is to trade him. We could get a Jordan Montgomery in return?

  12. Wilyer is one of my favorite players. One of the Sox who is most fun to watch, after Jarren Duran. That said, I won't blame the Red Sox if they trade him for a pitcher that improves the team. But I only say that because of who is coming up from the minors – the #1 prospect in baseball right now, who is also an outfielder, and the Minor League Player of the Year, who is a part-time outfielder. Both of those guys look special, and there needs to be room for them. And they're kind of locked in on Ceddanne with that 8-year contract (despite the fact that he's still a big question mark offensively).

Though I think there's room to keep Abreu if O'Neill walks and Yoshida is traded. Yeah, they'd have one too many stud outfielders in that case, but they could manage that for a year I think, and keep them all fresh by rotating them, and they wouldn't lose a step if one of them misses time due to injury.

Well, all I can really do is wait and see. Part of me wants to just tune it all out and check back in on the hot stove come January, because most days, there's no actual news to report.

  13. It’ll be fun so see how Boston navigates the “bought” and “built” ratio of this team. I really hope they actually plan on being competitive next season.

  14. Suppose the Sox take on a $500mil+ LH outfielder (below-average defensively), but they already have a really great outfield except that it's too left-handed. Sounds like a challenge to figure out how to restructure around him. I'm not trying to be sarcastic at all–I think he might be fantastic for the team. And I'd be interested to hear an overall plan for what else to do if the Sox actually paid for Soto. It could be a fun exercise. Anyone else interested in this thought experiment?

  15. Adding starting pitching is whats needed…Elite pitching doesnt grow on trees… Free agents want 150- 300mil at 30 plus years old comes with major risk( Sale)…. Trading for it is more expensive now than ever before… (22-25 year olds with team control)… what to do???

  16. If we couldn't pony up for our own Mookie Betts, I don't want us going after Soto. We need piching in the worst way. I only see Soto if we trade Devers…..

  17. They not signing either O'Neill or Soto. You can bring up Anthony, Campbell, Teel, Mayer and Meidroth on rookie contracts and save money. They have also played together. They are about the same age and have chemistry. This will be a solid lineup for years to come. You have Raphaella, Hamilton, Abreu, Duran, Casas and even Grissom. Young and proven talent and even veterans Devers and for the moment a healthy Story. This could become a great offense and even a good defense for the next five years in the league. If they got money to burn in free agency, use it for an ace. Hendricks will close and then, take your time to decide whatever else is needed for pitching. No need to trade their best prospects in 2024-2025. The chance to have so many young, homegrown quality and quantity of talented players just doesn't come around too often. This team could be a dynasty for years to come.

  18. Love Wilyer. But with Roman Anthony ready to go, I’m not sure he has a long term future here. If you can use him in a deal to get a legit number 1 like a deal with CWS or SEA, I’m there for it.

Otherwise I say you keep Wilyer and try to re-sign O’Neill as well. Rafaela should be used primarily in center, but you’re going to need to use him in the infield. O’Neill has had healthy issues

My point is – even in a “crowded” outfield, there should still be plenty of playing time for Wilyer. But if he’s a means to an end for an ace, you have to do it while his value is this high.

  19. If you want to make a comparison, I would compare Soto to Manny Ramirez. We had him for eight plus seasons and he was a top-tier professional hitter signed for big money, but was generally well below average defensively and rarely was used as a DH. He was also a continual headache and kind of a head case. Soto is already iffy defensively ( don't understand the GG nom) at 26. Would they feel like he would have to DH for most of the contract?

  20. I would not spend the money on Soto. It would be better used for pitching. With the Yashida surgery and Abreu awards they could keep Abreu till the trade deadline. He would be a great piece to move and then they could leave Anothony in AAA till the deadlinee. They could just worry about pitching.

  21. It is my view that the Red Sox should only make one move in the offseason and that is to sign free agent Max freed😊 do a multi-year contract. Let the other teams drool open the talent bass at the Red Sox have because it is definitely 11:50

  22. I want new blood like Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer in next season…Go AFTER ROKI SASAKI please give us cool players who are talented and teach them how to win… Keep Casas go after Flaherty and Roki please for the love of god..Corbin Burnes…we need pitchers….

  23. Honestly I'd like them to spend on pitchers vs Soto. I'd be shocked (but happy) if the Sox were to sign him. Congrats to Abreu. I still think he'll be traded, but it was a well deserved award.

  24. Making a show of linking Soto to the Sox benefits both sides. Soto (or rather his agent) gets to have more names to use as leverage with the real suitors (NYY, NYM, LAD, maybe an odd mystery team). Meanwhile the Sox get to tell the unhappy fans they’re in on the top names even if they don’t actually want to sign him. That’s why these tidbits get leaked to the reporters. Anyway, congrats to Abreu!

  25. if i had to say one good thing about red sox ownership is that they know how to develop young guys. now they just gotta spend the damn money and if they cared about spending money they would spend it on soto who fits the timeline of this team. oh well. anyway great first wilyer!! dude was nasty in RF. this changes the trade market for him bc damn hes a keeper but damn we need better players. him and anthony are competing for RF and its gonna be interesting. you think anthony can be as good as wilyer is in RF corbin just in case we lose abreu it feels like we wont lose much?

  26. Felicitaciones Abreu.. Boston no necesita a Soto tiene demasiados novatos que van a ser estrellas , solo necesitan agregar un As y dos relevistas elites y que story casas y devers estén sanos y cambiar a yosida a mitad de temporada.
