Tre Harris is one of the top receivers in the nation and was on pace to lead the nation in receiving by a wide margin; that was until Ole Miss and college football fans everywhere were robbed of a phenomenal season by an injury on October 12 in a loss against LSU. Despite not playing in well over a month, Harris still leads the SEC in receiving yards with 987, that’s 50 more than the next closest guy and 200 above third place.
Oh, and as far as his national rankings, this man is still No. 5 in the nation in receiving yards despite not even being in the top 20 in targets — oh yeah, and also despite having not played for about six weeks now.
Harris was averaging 141 yards per game at the time of his injury, meaning that over Ole Miss’ last three games, Harris would have gained 423 yards, which would put him at or around 1,410 receiving yards this season.
With those stats, and at least two more games to go, Harris would undeniably be in the conversation to get an invite to New York as a Heisman trophy finalist right now.
For reference, in his Heisman Season, Alabama WR Devonta Smith led the nation with 1,511 receiving yards. When factoring in the final two games of Ole Miss’ season that have yet to be played, Harris would have finished this season with 1,692 receiving yards if he had stayed consistent at his average.
I know that Harris will likely come back soon, so his season isn’t over, but his injury robbed us of what would have been a Heisman-worthy season.
