Chelsea’s start to the season has shown a number of their top players beginning to realise their true potential.

The Blues sit in third in the league in Enzo Maresca’s first season as a Premier League manager, and is staying loyal to a number of his players who continue to impress.

Moises Caicedo has left Chelsea chiefs delighted, and is one of the Blues who has started every game in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea have been achieving these strong results without their club captain in the majority. Reece James has only played a handful of games during this campaign.

Maresca confirmed James had suffered another injury at some stage during the international break, ruling him out of this weekend’s game against Leicester City.

There is no doubt an element of frustration that a player described as ‘world-class’ is very rarely available for selection right now.

Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that a conversation will be had in the summer at the club about their future with James.

He said: “James is a frustrating one. It’s hard to build a squad around someone who is injured so much. It impacts on other things. It impacts on deals like Acheampong’s, on the planning of the squad.

“I don’t think it impacts anything in January. But the right-back is a quandary, and they’re aware of it. They love it as a player. I think Reece James is a conversation the club will have in the summer. Such a talent, but what do you do? It’s a conversation that I understand will happen in the summer.”

Malo Gusto to be handed new contract at Chelsea

Malo Gusto has taken the role of right-back far more often than perhaps he would even have expected since joining the club.

Chelsea have been very impressed by the Frenchman, so much so that Gusto is set to be offered a new contract by the Blues in the new year.

Gusto will likely be named in the starting side for the trip to Leicester tomorrow, when Maresca will be facing his former side for the first time since leaving.
