Penn State tight end Tyler Warren is not going to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy. But, that isn’t stopping the Nittany Lions from pushing for the senior to have a seat at next month’s ceremony in New York. A new promotional video released Monday pushing the Nittany Lions’ campaign for the award given to college football’s best player features future NFL Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski saying this: “Everyone knows that the best athlete on the football field is the tight end. Just check out my boy, Tyler Warren.”
The final 40 seconds of the clip, which you can see here and also below, features numerous television broadcasters praising the do-everything star of the Penn State offense.
Penn State also has a full two-minute video on its website featuring Gronkowski singing Warren’s praises.
“Tyler has me so fired up, I think I could get back on that field. You’re getting to do things that not even I was allowed to do, he snapped the ball and caught a touchdown on the same play, are you kidding me,” Gronkowski says.
Penn State is pushing Warren for numerous awards
Warren is currently not listed on the FanDuel Heisman Trophy odds board. Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter is a massive favorite to win the honor. But even earning an invite to ‘The Big Apple’ would be significant. The Lions have featured him in a number of ways this season. So far, he has thrown a pass, snapped the ball and then caught a touchdown pass on the same play, punted, been used as a wildcat quarterback, and has been terrific as a blocker and pass catcher.
On the year, he has completed two of four passes for 26 yards and a touchdown. He has also rushed 18 times for 157 yards and four scores. And, he has caught a team-high 75 passes for 910 yards and five touchdowns. He is a shoo-in to be the Big Ten tight end of the year. He will likely win the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s best tight end. And, he is in the running for both the Walter Camp Player of the Year honor and the Paul Hornung Award. The latter goes to the nation’s most versatile player.
“I think Tyler Warren should be a part of all the conversations that deal with the best football player in college football,” Lions coach James Franklin said at Purdue. “I don’t think it’s a question. And that’s all of those types of awards, including the Heisman.
