Texas Rangers trade for Miami Marlins slugger Jake Burger, giving lineup what it lacked in 2024
The Texas Rangers traded three prospects to the Miami Marlins in exchange for power-hitting infielder Jake Burger. The Rangers included Echedry Vargas, Maximo Acosta and Brayan Mendoza as the return for four seasons of Burger.
Burger has played third base and first base in his career but isn’t considered a strong defender, but it could mean the Rangers are considering trading Nathaniel Lowe to spend money elsewhere. Lowe is projected to make over $10 million in arbitration for the 2025 season.
The Rangers re-signed Nathan Eovaldi to a 3-year $75 million deal not long after missing out on lefty ace Max Fried. Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reported that Texas planned for scenarios of signing both Eovaldi and Fried before the Yankees signed the lefty. That indicates Rangers owner Ray Davis might be willing to spend big again this winter after all.

If I remember right, I think the rangers struggled a little against Burger…
I'm feeling pretty good about this season. 90 + wins
Are we keeping Adolis
Where will he play
I believe in baseball curses, and honestly, I believe the Rangers currently have a curse. Last winter, I was bumbed they didn't sign Montgomery. It turned out that might have been the right move (if he doesn't rebound in 2025). I was certain Evo was gone, and that certainly made me feel like this winter would be sad. After watching this video, I'm not sad. I hope you're right, I hope our Rangers aren't done this winter. We got Evo & Burger. Too bad I don't have a Whataburger down here, I'd celebrate, lol. LETS GO Rangers!!!!
Great intro !!!
I like this move… but I will say I truly believe Adolis has a higher ceiling than this guy , I wouldn’t be so quick to move on from Garcia or Lowe. Also relying on guys as old as Yates and Robertson in the back end of a bullpen worries me, father time is undefeated. I’d like to see them make a run at Devin Williams and move those two guys to set up roles.
With Evoldi and Burger, the Rangers might win 80 games
Rangers need first base third base and right fielder
Despite Burgers defence not being great, he still can play the corner infeild slots, which could be great backup in case Josh Jung gets hurt again. Not to mention he has that 25-35 HR potential which is what we needed in the lineup. Personally, i think Lowe stays because despite his lack of HRs at 1st base, he has that ability to get pitch counts up in a lineup that is very swing 1st.
