Orlando Magic’s trade deadline decision: A missed opportunity
The Orlando Magic’s decision to stand pat at the NBA trade deadline could be a missed opportunity. The Magic left several clear needs unaddressed that have held the team back this year and for much of the past decade.
Orlando’s flaws were on display in clear vision in their 112-90 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday to end their road trip. The Magic are sticking with their roster and betting that health will get them on the right track.
It does not change that the Magic will have to make some difficult decisions and add to the roster this offseason.

fire jeff welt-trash enough is enough paolo and franz deserve better than this. look at the spurs for example this is victor 2nd yr and they got him chris paul and deaaron fox meanwhile the magic got paolo and franz and all they give them is kcp with 55 mil in cap space what a complete failure and a joke. jeff weltman has proven he doesnt know how to put the pieces togther to build a team that can win a playoff series. time to thank him for his service and move on before paolo gets tired and ask out
I am most displeased that they did not hire someone to replace Moe. Clearly a risk that has already blown up in our faces. We could have done with someone like Jonas but nothing but crickets. Bah!
Whether they played together or not this team is not enough to go all the way. Injuries or not what were we waiting for. Suggs is good but he’s not gonna come back and just take us to the top
The Magic's loss in Denver was exacerbated by the absence of Moe Wagner and Jalen Suggs, who are considered vital to the team's defensive intensity and overall hustle on the court.
Impact of injuries:
Without Wagner's inside presence and Suggs' defensive versatility, the Magic struggled to maintain their usual defensive rhythm, leading to a difficult loss.
Moe Wagner's long recovery:
The most concerning news is that Wagner's knee injury will require a significant period of rehabilitation, meaning he is likely to miss the remainder of the current season and potentially a large portion of the next.
The stand pat magic strikes again 🤦🏾♂️😭😭😭
Pathetic. Everyone is being asked to max out everything they have and do, aside from the FO. They work two days a year and do absolutely nothing to solve glaring issues. Why are they making this so difficult? Why? We are now getting close to the point of needing to discuss how P5 and Franz truly feel about us not putting the proper pieces around them. I have zero faith in this FO! We are in year 7 in this rebuild and we’re talking about the the play-in? With two stars?? This is wild
And yes we are about to get some schedule wins, but that’s all we are. We’re the team that can beat a bad team at home and constantly count on that to get by. There’s zero excuse for doing nothing at this deadline. It’s either complete negligence or incompetence…can’t decide which
You mentioned usage rates. Weren’t we the team that was supposed to win by committee? When did we decide and become a two man offense. No one signed up for this and we are making it so unnecessarily difficult for them if the plan is just to spread the floor and let them rip. Why???? Why?????
Stop putting this on franz/p5. There’s no incentive for them to succeed with this roster, not to mention it’s not even possible, and give anyone anymore false hope (cough cough, our idiot FO)
And I’ll remind everyone one more time the organization was making season ticket renewal calls all week long leading up to the deadline. So they’re happy to ask fans to commit financially before deciding whether or not to act. It’s blatant Mickey Mouse with this team/organization. Always btw. Been doing this for 35 years now. Smh
You guys are overreacting. Suggs and Moe are out. … the reason we were winning is from bigs inside passing. Moe, goga, Paolo, Isaac, could all send and receive alley oops, now all we have is Wendell “Jordan” Carter dominating the ball…
We need to trade Wendell, and use Moe as a trade piece because his contract expires and we can get him right back! The problem is no one that makes sense is available in the off season. Maybe somehow we can sneak Chet Holmgrem away from OKC
I said it again and again, the Magic organization is for the money and taking the money from the ordinary people to make themselves richer. 2) The GM is trying to be like the GM from OKC and get draft picks and not spend money nor make a simple trade, he needs to go. 3) Mosley does not know how to match the players and is not making the right moves, we need to change coach (just saying Mark Jackson), 4) Is embarrassing being a fan of a team that dont want to be a championship team, they just want to be a regular season team. The Orlando Magic are stilling the peoples money we should boycott the games so the franchise understands we want a Championship.
We will lose against Spurs im positive. Ill be surprised we make the play in
Luka wouldve been perfect. Thats what we need, but we'll never get
to look at both teams last night the biggest difference i seen was Denver: Stars had the ball and players were moving around them. Orlando: stars had the ball, looked for help and were forced to put up a bad shot or turn the ball over, everyone was just standing around not getting open.
Our "local media" is soft as they come. Weltman will continue to hide, be smug, and do absolutely nothing with this team. Dude getting paid big to produce a mediocre product.
The Magic’s weakness is shooting. But what’s the difference in the team that won a bunch of games earlier in the year? They stunk at shooting last year and played well also. P5 gotta shake the rust off and play better, the defense is not the same without Suggs, and we need more creativity from the coaches on offense to create easy looks in the paint. To me, that’s more important than bringing in 1 or two shooters.
BEEN A FAN FOR 30 YRS AND ITS THE SAME CRAP EVERY YEAR. THEY WONT GO GET THE STAR PLAYER THEY NEED TO HELP THIS TEAM GET PAST THE HUMP. THE DEVOS ARE A BAD OWNERSHIP. U DONT OWN A FRANCHISE AND U CANT GET TO THE FINALS SHIT U CANT EVEN GET TO THE ECF. YO BLOW SMOKE UP THE FANS ASSES BY HAVING ALL THIS MONEY TELLING US WERE GONNA GET THE PLAYERS WE NEED TO HELP WAGNER AND BANCHERO AND THEY RESIGN THERE OWN PLAYERS. THEY HAD THE MONEY TO ADD TO ROSTER TO WIN AND GO FAR. THEY BRING IN A PAST HIS PRIME KCP. THIS TEAM ISNT GOOD. THIS TEAM WILL NO GO .500. ALL THE MAGIC DO IS WASTE THERE PLAYERS TALENT AND BANCHERO WILL WALK BECAUSE HE KNOWS HIS OWNERSHIP DOESNT GET HIM HELP. WE SUX AT SHOOTING 3 LAST YEAR WE NEVER RESOLVE THAT PROBLEM. THAN HERE WE ARE AT THE DEADLINE AND DO NOTHING. GIVE UP THE PICKS THERE GONNA PICK OUTSIDE THE TOP 10 ANYWAY. EVEN THIS HOSTS IS BLOWING SMOKE UP OUR ASS THINKING ORLANDO GONNA BE OK U HAVE 0 EVIDENCE ORLANDO WILL TURN THIS AROUND. THE ISSUE IS ITS THE SAME ROSTER AND ALL I HEARD WAS ORLANDO IS IN GOOD SHAPE TO MAKE TRADES THAT WHY WE DIDNT GO ALL OUT TO GET THE GUYS WE NEED. BULLSHIT TELL THE TRUTH WHAT THE FUCK IS THERE TO FIGHT FOR TO GET ELIMINATED IN THE 1ST ROUND AGAIN. DEVOS SELL THE TEAM AND FIRE EVERY 1 IN THAT FRONT OFFICE BECAUSE THEY DONT GIVE A SHIT WHAT THE FANS WANT. AS LONG AS THEY GET MONEY IN THERE POCKET ITS ALL THEY CARE ABOUT….. DIFFERENT PLAYERS DIFFERENT COACHES SAME OWNER SAME RESULT. HOW DO U EXPECT TO GET THE JOB DONE WHEN THEY CANT SHOOT UR MAKING NO SENSE AT ALL.
The Orlando Magic have faced a number of problems, including inconsistent shooting, a lack of energy, and missing key players.
Shooting
The Magic have struggled to make three-pointers, shooting worse than 30% in 13 of their last games.
The Magic's stars have had difficulty hitting their shots.
Energy
The Magic have missed the energy of players like Jalen Suggs and Goga Bitadze, who anchor the team's defense.
The Magic have had to play with fewer players, which has made it difficult to maintain their usual intensity.
Missing key players
The Magic have been missing key players, which has made it harder for the team to create a spark and win games.
The Magic have had to play with players who are battling injuries or foul trouble.
Playing hard
The Magic play hard, but sometimes this can lead to turnovers and mistakes.
Philip I'm not one to usually give the front office a pass. But Jeff did say that they were trying to make a trade just they were asking too much. At least that's what I gathered from the comments that he made. That I can kind of believe because the assets that we were looking for were not actively on the trading block with Sexton Kobe white and Anfernee Simons. So if I was those teams and I have a team like the Orlando Magic approaching me who were sitting in the fourth seed and now we're in the 8th seed they might have looked at us like we were in desperation mode and might have raise the asking price for those players. Do you think that if we have a good showing for the rest of the season and maybe make it to the six seed or even if we're in the 8th season come out of the play and tournament, it will show us to not be so desperate when approaching these teams in the offseason and will have one Wendell Carter available as well. Do you think the asking price will be the same.
Going back to something you said earlier this season what if they are holding off until Wendell is available for trade you made it clear he is their biggest trading asset if that's the case wouldn't it make sense to hold off until summer time also a lot of these trades made at the deadline might not even work out due to most of these dudes contracts expiring this year so I kinda didn't expect anything to happen for the reasons mentioned idk I think maybe this summer is when they want to strike with all things considered
Sorry but we couldn’t get a shooter with the Denver pick and some 2nds? Like some guys went for scraps this cycle. It’s malpractice.
Paolo at a 32% usage rate and Phil says this means….
“1/3 of every possession that Paolo is on the floor ends with him taking a shot, taking a free throw or turning the ball over.”
That doesn’t sound right, he doesn’t average zero assists per game?
What am I missing here?
Guys! It's okay. We're gonna use the power of friendship and internal development to win a title by 2030!
🤮
A franchise stuck in perpetual mediocrity. You can't make any excuses for them, they always do nothing or get a low level player on the cheap. They simply are never going to spend the money again they did in the Dwight era, and the truth is they don't care, they are here to make money first and foremost.
Magic took a massive L and a big mistake. They will not be making playoffs this year. They could've easily got Vucevic for a bag of funyons and chose not to. L
Why you never talk about having big guys??? We have 10 guards and only one true center. Carter is a power forward that cannot defend. Banchero is really a SF because he like the ball in his hands
Fultz we miss you
Truthfully, this is completely unacceptable. Weltman has done a great job at building a foundation and culture but his non aggression is honestly a fireable offense at this point. It’s ridiculous.
Lets sign Ben Simmons
With all due respect to your passion and love for the magic, you don't understand too much. You never mentioned that we get rid of Markelle Fultz, a wonderful creative player, great scorer, great handler and great teammate. You keep supporting Calwell Pope and Cole Anthony. Disgusting players to watch.
What deal was available that Welt didn’t make? No one can answer that question.
I believe Welt made efforts to get help. But if you give up assets, there needs to be some security.
Without assurance of more than 2 years, Welt shouldn’t make a deal. Giving up young talent for a team that can’t win a ring with just one additional player.
Let’s see what happens after the AS break. I still believe the Magic will at worst make the play in.
The total crash out of Magic fans is hilarious.
