The Ohtani contract seems like a bargain more and more!
He got what the market paid him dummy
This is Rendón like
Jose Ramirez must be the biggest bargain in the history of the sport. How many guys leave 100 million dollars on the table just to stay with a team.
To all u idiots none of this is your money or teams so quit crying talking over pay
With the departure of Bregman and Verlander this year, the only Astro players from 2017 is now limited to Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers.
ITALKSTUDIOS ON YT SAID THIS DEAL WAS A "STEAL" HAHAHAHA
Has the bloke ever had a hit to the right side of the field?
O's fan here. While the Orioles offseason has been fairly tame, the additions the Sux, the Spankees, and the Boo Jays made don't scare me.
The Dodgers tho..
Imagine playing $10M a year per WAR?
Oh I’m sorry, people don’t like WAR anymore.
Imagine paying 40M a year for a slightly above average .768 OPS?
Oh of course, OPS is a bad metric too.
Imagine paying $40M a year for 25 homers?
This is awful in every way you swing it. Trying to justify it by saying “it’s only 3 years” when no one else was offering him near 40M short term is also pathetic.
Are any people that play sport for their career worth millions? Supply and demand
For $40 million…. now the pressure is on Bregman to produce.
Devers 3B
Story SS
Bregman 2B/3B
Highest OPS at Fenway in the history of any player with at least 75 AB. Did you not find that in your research? It was pretty easy to find.
Cora has also said Bregs will move to 2B. Again, pretty easy to find.
Do better.
Doesn’t matter if they regret it or not. There are opt outs so I’m ok with it for a guy who rakes at Fenway
118 ops+ and 4.1 wins. There was a league wide downturn in offense last year. He's gonna hit 50 doubles next year in fenway.
I don't agree with this take. Its deferred, and Bregman hits more warning track fly balls to left field than anybody in the MLB. The monster will suit him. also look at his season splits from first half to second half. Big time jump, the .768 was a dumpster dive first half. Bregman has a high floor because of his plate discipline. Kinda wish I didn't have to see this guy's L takes anymore but he does get me to click so whatever.
This why you can't afford to take your family to a game
As a Red Sox fan I agree he was overpaid, however context is needed. Ownership has been under fire for years for not being aggressive in pursuing marque free agents. On paper, Bregman is a perfect fit, but they didn't want to commit long term. The only way to convince Bregman to go for a short contract was to overpay him. Hopefully he has a bounce-back year and opts out.
Yawn. Terrible analysis. Great deal for the Sox. Perfect? No. They did overpay. But you need to look at the big picture. With their up and coming talent they get a replacement for “free”. Why is that important? Because of the deferred money. So, they really just offered Bregman, in REAL terms, the same as Detroit did, but with less commitment… fewer years. This contract is being so badly analyzed by many. They’re also looking at the opt outs ad a plus for Bregman. Seriously? Who else is paying him $40M???? Only way he opts out is if he hits 50+ homers and launches the Sox to a World Series. Seriously… that’s the only way anyone offers him that much. Meaning: it’s a multi-year, lockdown deal. AND… as I already said… as basically the same rate as Detroit offered.
It’s a great deal for the Sox AND for Bregman. A win win.
Boston and Bregman, a match made in heaven. 2 cheaters uniting.
A 275 hitter , last four years around 25 HR a year getting 40 million a year, just crazy. You can get close to that from a good minor league prospect.
Alex Bregman making 40 mil aav reminds me of that one meme with a clown and army dudes doing a military operation.
Biggest overpay this offseason? No I can’t believe no one talked about this with Soto 765 mil to hit?
