  1. Blue chip prospects for the Leafs are not blue chip prospects everywhere in the league. Leafs nation always overvalues prospects. I think the moves they made will be more beneficial for the team than a Rantanen deal would have been.

  2. I might be wrong but wasn't the Avs willing to give rantenan a contract around Mackinnons deal for 12.6 but because they didn't want to pay him more than that they traded him despite rantenan saying he was willing to take a "discount" afterwards. And now rantenan goes to dallas for less… thats interesting…

  3. 8:02 what does that say about Marner? Here's the Leaf's saying we're willing to spend $13 million on Rantanen. That would leave how much for Marner? Do they know that Marner is not wanting to sign with them?

  4. @sportsnet

    Heres an idea 💯

For the @nhl to get better and create chaos among the teams
Much like how the nfl creates real hype

Change the length of a max contract from being 8 yrs max
To 5.5 years max contract . Yes i added a half yr to the contract max

    Because
    1. Player gets a shorter contract ,ability to relocate if wishing ,not resiging with said franchise
    2. Instead of everyone wondering what a player is gonna do in the last year of his contract , having half yr really forces teams to make deals and /or trades on a consistent basis.
3.with this idea to create chaos, hype ,fun here is the kicker ……

2 trade deadlines with the 82 game season

With 1 trade deadline focusing on goaltending and defense

And the 2nd with forwards or a combination such as centers with defencemen

    Or wingers with goalies only

Only these players can be traded during period of games such 1 to 41 42 to 82

    Something like that

I think it cause so many more people to watch there teams and have you the gms actually be forced in a much quicker approach to rapidly improve the teams

As there some teams that get hot/cold could do a switch early

    Thoughts

  5. The Leafs getting Rantanen makes 0 sense. I'm thinking he's either making this up or Brad was smoking crack. And Brad couldn't have been smoking crack because he got Laughton and Carlo while keeping Cowan.

  6. Ya only the leafs would think , We are losing JT off the books, we need to find another forward to fill the core 4 taking up all the money… Because we know how will it works

  7. Im surprised Canes considered that offer. That would mean the Canes (cup contenders btw) ultimately trade Necas and Drury for Taylor Hall for the 2025 Playoffs. It would however allow Canes to buy Laughton, Carlo and possibly Boeser for themselves so idk

  8. Col got Necas for Mikko, which works better in Col. Then they get Coyle from Bos, Brock, Lindgren, EJ….brand new team with heavy reinforcements. Wow

  9. Carolina shaking in their boots, trade Rantanen to anyone literally anyone except the Leafs because they are too afraid to face them in the playoffs. Pfft what a biased delusional take.

  10. Id have taken Dallas' package too. Stankoven is a way better prospect and they got two 3rds rounders as well on top of it. Cowan and Minten are completely overblown because they're Leafs.

  11. Marner will walk, Boeser will walk, we are actually sister franchises that go through the same crap. If a team needs to end a losing streak, or a player is going for a record, or need the first goal against their old team, we both let it happen. 4-1 leads are the most dangerous for both of our teams haha. The only difference is we don't make the playoffs as often but go further when we do.

  12. I love to listen to passionate hockey talk. Just wish people would stop falsely promoting the tax issue. I heard tax difference of 4M mentioned between Colorado and Dallas. Puckpedia does state roughly this number, however they also admit to following:

"The calculator does not factor in the proportion of income taxed at different rates based on where games are played. For instance, a player on the Calgary Flames may earn part of their income in lower-tax Alberta but still owe U.S. taxes for road games."

I'm sure taxation has many other variables which make it even less straightforward to compare than this detail.
Would be nice if numbers are actually verified before laid to to general public in this fashion

  13. Would they be able to sign knies though if they had Rantenen and marner signed . Oh well next year we can sign marner and go and get a stud winger who can work with nylander . Bennett???

  14. man as a local in north texas, dougs words about dallas felt so damn good to hear. casuals in comments on social media dont know stick and puck when all they talk about is their confusion on hockey in dallas as a concept with southern hockey markets but a respected Canadian sportscaster calling dallas A GREAT HOCKEY TOWN is so so so validating

  15. As a bruins fan, I am more offended of Marchy going to the cats vs the leafs. I'll still watch the panthers during the playoffs, but it was an emotional day as a fan. Think we got good value in trades other than that, that's how it goes sometimes.

  16. Dudes
Arguably the rivalry started with the last trade that they made
    'thank you Kessel'
There is no way in hell Boston deals Marchand to Toronto and there's an equal place in hell for every Toronto fan that allows it
… But then I do like spicy food and hot weather

  17. I think Kyper was right that Mikko had never the intention to sign Carolina. He told himself that Raleigh was not the place to live nxt 8 years. He had few options and he chose Dallas. Period.

  18. Carolina did not wanted Rantanen to sign Leafs, because , as Kyper said, they are , and were afraid of Leafs in play offs. They pushed him to West. 100% correct conclusions.
