Stars Sign and Trade For Rantanen, Stankoven and Picks to Canes in Return

This trade has yet to be officially announced by either team which is odd, considering it was reported hours ago. Maybe a third team is involved?

  1. FINLAND! i know people are thinkin what's the big deal with Finnish players. i dunno! but it works in Dallas. Honestly i was a little ambivalent about this possibility until i heard that he actually named Dallas as one team he was interested in. If he wants to be here it will go a lot better. and He is a bear which we sorely need as Benn winds down his career.

  2. Dallas will still be the most boring team to watch in the west. They are slow and rantanen doesn't change that he is slow as well. Time will tell but adding rantenan I don't believe changes much in dallas.

  3. I think we (Stars) gave way too much to get this guy. Two (2) 1st rounders and two (2) third rounders, and Logan Stankoven. I hope we didn't sacrifice too much future stuff for right-now results. I really like Jim Nill a lot, but maybe too much given up here.

  4. Again that's not how nhl players are taxed they are all paid in USD and pay taxes the location of the game. They are paid per game. Shannon I've commented this on many videos…..please read it.

  5. Carolina doesn't over pay for anybody, never have, never will, that's why for the past 8 years or so we have been very relevant. When franchise's over pay a few players the hole team suffers, it's a business and cap space is always nice to have

  6. As a Canes fan I'm pretty happy with this. Rantenen simply didn't work in Rod's system (say what you will about the system). You don't want to end up stuck with a 12 Mil player who never gets back to where they were with their prior team. Canes have elite scouting so I expect the 1+1+3+3 will return something good in the long run. Very excited for Stankoven!

  7. Canes fans have a right to be upset with Rantanen.

Necas and Drury for a stud young center, 2 firsts, and 2 thirds ain't exactly what they or the Canes were trying for.

But trust the Stars fans when they tell you Stankoven is the kind of player every fanbase loves; he may be short, but the kid is gonna play his heart out every shift, every night. He can score, even if his numbers this year haven't been there. He is the living epitome of "size of the fight in the dog". And he comes cheaper than Rantanen or Necas which gives Tulsky (and Dundon) room to work with at the draft and in free agency.

There are reasons to be miffed in Raleigh right now, but there are just as many, maybe more, reasons to be very optimistic about what the bunch'a jerks can do in the aftermath of this debacle.

  8. Sad to see Stankoven go, hope he find success in Carolina. As for Rantanen, I hope we didn't overpay and that he gels well with the team, especially given the number of Finns we have on the team.

  9. State tax in NC is only 4.5% and the hurricanes offered him more than enough to make up that difference. The taxes argument is just annoying, it’s only state tax every state still has federal tax

  10. My theory is that Rantanen never intended to leave Colorado and was going to compromise at the last minute and he just didn’t expect the avalanche to give up on negotiations and trade him without saying anything

  11. Hot-ish take, Stankoven is going to be the most impactful forward on that team within 2 years. Could be immediately, who knows. He is an absolute animal and incredibly talented. If you ignore the size, he really does play like Zetterberg did when he entered the league.

  12. He’s a pigeon. He requires elite level players to set him up, otherwise he’s just mid. Should fit in well in Dallas though, he and Duchene will have a tons in common (what with the Avs being better with them gone and all).

  13. The Stars have done a phenomenal job at drafting talent and developing it well, but the sad part of that is watching so many good young guys get traded. Gurianov, Kiviranta, now Stanky, it’s always a bummer letting them go, but prospects like them are a form of currency in the NHL and right now it seems like Nill is the money printer. I trust that our mustachioed manager, he’s on a heater, best to just let him cook.
