  4. The more we learn about this situation, the more I’m starting to believe the conspiracy that the Mavericks are threatening Dallas and Texas legislatures with tanking the Mavericks franchise and moving them to Vegas if they don’t let them build a casino in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

    The only other option is just pure incompetence.

    Short term decision from Niko as he is clearly only thinking about the next few years – the moron even said so himself.

    Long term decision from the owners because they don’t care about the fans and simply want to avoid any super max deals being on their roster.

  12. They spent 3-4 years finding pieces to put around Luka to suffice for his flaws. Once they completed their team, they criticized Luka for having the very flaws that they spent years of work to adjust for.

    They wanted to make sure to fuck the Mavs future for years to come. Not just in the short term.

    And to people who keep falling for their comments about being committed to staying in Dallas, that’s also what the Sonics owners said and, in a different sport but more recent, the A’s owners said.

    Mavs ownership has also said that their #1 priority is getting a new arena that’s a part of a casino complex and not only have they said that, their actions also reflect that (he mentions destination resorts in this clip but glosses over the casino part – make no mistake, he was talking about casinos). Casinos are not legal in Texas and the Mavs owners have not had much luck getting that changed. That’s the most important piece to look at in this situation. If Texas passes legislation that allows casinos in the state, it will drastically increase the odds the Mavs owners keep the team in Dallas. If they don’t, they will be gone.

    Remember – it’s a whole lot easier to lie with words than it is to lie with actions so look at their actions, not just their words.

    They have made no major changes and continue to build around the same core players, unlike Dallas, which decided to remove the core piece they had been investing in for years. And for what, exactly?

    I don’t remember the Celtics trading Tatum, the Cavaliers trading Mitchell, OKC trading SGA, or Denver trading Jokic…
