Owner of Dallas Mavericks says Luka trade was a “long term decision”, directly contradicting Nico who always said it was a “win now” move

Is he high
It was stupid both now and long term. Hope this helps
It was a long term plan to give the fans no hope, so they won’t feel as bad when the team moves to Vegas in a few years
The more we learn about this situation, the more I’m starting to believe the conspiracy that the Mavericks are threatening Dallas and Texas legislatures with tanking the Mavericks franchise and moving them to Vegas if they don’t let them build a casino in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The only other option is just pure incompetence.
Bold of you to assume a married-into-wealth moron would know anything about how to operate a sports business
“We wanna be one of character” as we shit on Luka as much as possible while giving him the boot and costing him 100+ million dollars.
it was a long term decision to keep the Lakers front and center
These clowns can’t get their shit straight.
Making a move that screws your long term outlook is still technically a “long term decision.”
i don’t think selling Luka for half price is an anything term decision.
Both are probably true.
Short term decision from Niko as he is clearly only thinking about the next few years – the moron even said so himself.
Long term decision from the owners because they don’t care about the fans and simply want to avoid any super max deals being on their roster.
They spent 3-4 years finding pieces to put around Luka to suffice for his flaws. Once they completed their team, they criticized Luka for having the very flaws that they spent years of work to adjust for.
He’s right.
They wanted to make sure to fuck the Mavs future for years to come. Not just in the short term.
Yeah long term losing to get draft picks.
Their AAC lease expires 2031.
And to people who keep falling for their comments about being committed to staying in Dallas, that’s also what the Sonics owners said and, in a different sport but more recent, the A’s owners said.
Mavs ownership has also said that their #1 priority is getting a new arena that’s a part of a casino complex and not only have they said that, their actions also reflect that (he mentions destination resorts in this clip but glosses over the casino part – make no mistake, he was talking about casinos). Casinos are not legal in Texas and the Mavs owners have not had much luck getting that changed. That’s the most important piece to look at in this situation. If Texas passes legislation that allows casinos in the state, it will drastically increase the odds the Mavs owners keep the team in Dallas. If they don’t, they will be gone.
Remember – it’s a whole lot easier to lie with words than it is to lie with actions so look at their actions, not just their words.
We want to suck long term
They’re both idiots we knew this already
This guy has failed at every position held in his nepotism he has enjoyed his entire life. Money ruined this franchise, we have the worst owners and front office in sports history
Bro called it “The Championship Games” instead of the “Finals” tells you all you need to know
Wow this guy sounds like a douche who thinks he’s saying something very profound.
Long term to get gambling deep in the heart of Texas…
I mean technically trading a player away *is* a long-term plan whether or not it is also a short-term plan. Lol
This guy has no problem letting the basketball world know exactly how fucking stupid he is.
Nothing says “long term” like trading a 25 year old All Star for a chronically injured 33 year old
Worst trade in history, but I can s e how it can be both ways from their pov
I can guarantee it was just someone who got lost in the sauce and forgot to step back and reanalyze the situation. Started off small and just talked himself in circles until Luka ended up in a Lakers uniform
Mr. Adelson wants those casinos in Texas, he’ll tank the Mavs to get the point across
“win now” became “long term” after they realised how bleak everything currently looks for this franchise
A win now for him is Dallas fans turning on the franchise and attempting to justify a move to Vegas.
The Billionaire owners are so evil. I hope the bonus check is worth it for Nico. He took most of the blame and his GM career is toast.
This mothefucker has no idea who he traded or who he traded for.
Yeah let’s trade our 25 year old for a 31 year old with injury history.
This owner ain’t one of us man
Just look at him
I’ve never been a conspiracy theorist, but that whole moving the team to Vegas theory is looking more and more realistic the more you hear them try to justify this dumb ass trade.
The Mavericks franchise made a complete 180 towards respectability when Cuban purchased it. Now that he sold, it’s returned to pre Cuban awful.
We want to be bad now and also later. Hopefully in the future our draft picks will allow us to draft someone like Luka.
He was pretty decent in that one Harry Potter movie, I think he played a rat very well.
I am sorry… but he just say that other teams are getting better and he quite literally implied that Boston(“The team we lost to”) did trades to become even better.
…. In what way, did Boston got better?
I mean can anyone point out what major changes did Boston do to get even better than last season ? Here is their “trade” record for 24/25
>”Mar 4, 2025 Miles Norris PF Signed as Free Agent Two-Way Contract
>Mar 2, 2025 Anton Watson PF Waived

They have made no major changes and continue to build around the same core players, unlike Dallas, which decided to remove the core piece they had been investing in for years. And for what, exactly?
He might be business-savvy, but when it comes to basketball, he’s lying through his teeth. The best teams in the NBA right now aren’t benefiting from direct trades.
I don’t remember the Celtics trading Tatum, the Cavaliers trading Mitchell, OKC trading SGA, or Denver trading Jokic…
A lot of guys arent getting that supermax where before itd have been a foregone conclusion.
